                 The Fashion
Manufacturing Initiative
An investment fund has been launched to help revitalize New
York City's garment industry by offering financial grants to businesses looking to grow.
The Fashion Manufacturing Initiative (FMI) was developed by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), which will also manage the scheme.
It will operate under the leadership of Andrew Rosen, CEO of designer brand Theory, in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC).
Grants will be available to apparel and accessories factories that are at least two-years-old and are based in one of the five boroughs of New York City. They are also required to have already secured orders from key fashion designers/brands.
Key areas of investment are in machinery, expanding services, and training workers on the latest fabrication technologies and equipment.

Baci Lingerie Donates Over
    5000 Bras to Non-Profit
          Free The Girls
Baci's Commitment to Charitable Outreach Extends
to Support Victims of Sex Trafficking in Africa
Baci Lingerie donates over 5000 bras to victims of sex trafficking in Africa. The exact donation for 5077 brand new bras of various styles – a total retail value of over $55,000 – assists the non-profit organization Free The Girls.
“Sex trafficking is a devastating reality in places such as Mozambique,” says Baci Lingerie Director of Sales and Operations Alicia Sinclair. “It affects not only women, but their children and their families, as well. We are committed to raising awareness about human rights, and we encourage others to do what they can. Together, we can affect change which will criminalize sex trafficking in all nations.”
Free The Girls provides an opportunity for women rescued from sex trafficking to earn a living selling second-hand clothing, while going to school, getting healthy, and caring for their families. Launched in August 2010, the organization has collected over 130,000 gently used bras from women all over the world. In Spring 2011, working alongside its first safe house partner, Project Purpose, Free The Girls launched a successful pilot program in Mozambique, Africa.

In February 2012, Free The Girls was featured in a 3-part series on CNN’s Freedom Project, called “Mozambique or Bust.” As a result of the broadcast and resulting international support, the organization has shipped 32,000 bras to Mozambique in July 2012. Since then, Free The Girls has been able to replicate the results of the pilot program and add more women to the program.
This year, Free The Girls will be expanding their outreach by introducing pilot programs in Kenya, Uganda, El Salvador, and Mexico. A follow-up documentary by CNN, showcasing the success of the Free The Girls program, aired in February 2013.
More information about the Free The Girls organization and its work, visit
Baci Lingerie owner Frank Koretsky says, “Organizations such as Free The Girls are essential to women’s rights and to a humane and cruelty free planet. We’re humbled Free The Girls has accepted our donation, and urge everyone to help in whatever way they can.”
Donating to Free The Girls is the most recent example of Baci Lingerie’s commitment to philanthropy, social consciousness, and charitable outreach. Baci donated over $15,000 worth of bras to victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes earlier this year; Baci Lingerie also raised over $8,000 for the Eileen Stein Jacoby Fund for breast cancer at Baci’s second semiannual charity dinner in April. In addition, Baci participated in the 2013 Revlon Run/Walk to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment.
Baci’s international partners work harmoniously to streamline philanthropic endeavors and global vision. The synchronized network carries the Baci brand and philosophy to all territories simultaneously, allowing Baci to embrace and encourage the beauty of women throughout the world.
Free the Girls regularly seeks donations. The organization provides information and printable materials on how to coordinate efforts to collect new or like-new bras. Listings for upcoming bra collection drives are also listed at the Free The Girls’ site. For more information, visit the Free The Girls site, or contact Melissa Watson at

About Free the Girls
Currently 27 million men, women and children are being held as slaves around the world—more today than in any other time in history. 80% of those slaves are women and girls. There are a number of amazing organizations that are helping to rescue these women out of a life of prostitution, but what happens after they are rescued? By partnering with safe houses and after-care facilities, we provide an opportunity for women rescued from sex trafficking to earn a living selling second-hand clothing while going to school, getting healthy, and caring for their families. The women in our program receive their starting inventory as a donation, and are then able to buy additional inventory from Free The Girls for below wholesale value to help maintain their competitive edge in the marketplace. Free The Girls launched in August 2010, and to date we’ve collected over 130,000 gently used bras from women all over the world. In Spring 2011, working alongside our first safe house partner, Project Purpose, we launched a pilot program in Mozambique, Africa. The results of the pilot program were very promising—the women made 3-5x minimum wage selling bras. In February 2012, Free The Girls was featured in a 3-part series on CNN’s Freedom Project. The response was amazing, with an outpouring of support from all over the world! For more information, visit

US to Investigate India's
      Trade Practices
India's trade, investment, and industrial policies are to be the focus of an investigation by a US government agency amid concerns that a wide range of Indian policies discriminate against US trade and investment.
The International Trade Commission (USITC) will report on recent policies and measures in India that affect US exports and investment and evaluate the effects of any barriers on US firms and the economy.
It intends to draw up a tally of restrictive trade and investment policies by India, determine which sectors of the US economy are most affected by these policies, and describe the competitiveness of Indian firms in these sectors.
The USITC will also provide several case studies of US firms or industries that have been particularly affected by India's restrictions.
The probe 'Trade, Investment, and Industrial Policies in India: Effects on the U.S. Economy' follows a request from the Senate Committee on Finance and the House Committee on Ways and Means.
The lawmakers say US exports to India are low given the size of its market, standing at $22.3bn in 2011, and that US foreign direct investment (FDI) in India is also low.
"India has a complex, non-transparent tariff and fee system and byzantine and over burdensome customs procedures, and it maintains significant tariff and non-tariff barriers to US goods and service participation in sectors including retail and agriculture," they added in a letter to ITC chairman Irving Williamson.
"The government has enunciated a broader policy objective to develop and support Indian domestic industries by forcing foreign firms to use local facilities and suppliers and to transfer their intellectual property to Indian entities.
"Government documents indicate that India is likely to adopt additional measures to this end, and expand these sorts of measures to additional sectors, creating significant concern and uncertainty for U.S. exporters and investors."
The USITC will deliver its report by November 30, 2014.

Alley Rose Lingerie Partners with Free The Girls® to Fight
      Human Trafficking
Alley Rose Lingerie has always been a strong proponent of the power of lingerie. Now, through their new partnership with Free the Girls®, they have proven their commitment to sharing this message by using lingerie to help fight human trafficking.
Alley Rose Lingerie LLC has always been a strong proponent of the power of lingerie – not just to stimulate sexual arousal, but also to stimulate self-confidence and personal empowerment. Now, through their new partnership with Free the Girls®, they have proven their commitment to sharing the positive power of lingerie.
Free the Girls® is a non-profit organization that provides job opportunities to women rescued from sex trafficking in Africa, by providing them with bras to sell for additional income. Because used clothing is a profitable market in many countries around the world, bras are usually sought after items. Bras also provide an opportunity for these women to work with other women, providing them a network to help build their confidence after a history of mistrust of others due to abuse.
Starting in September, for each bra received in good condition, Alley Rose will award $1 in credit towards their designer lingerie, sexy costume or toy collection. Postage paid, return packaging will be included in all orders through Alley Rose Lingerie to aid in the convenience and buffer the cost to their clients interested in helping the cause. Bras can also be shipped proactively to their corporate address using the Free The Girls form found at the bottom of the Alley Rose homepage.
Alley Rose Lingerie CEO, Liza Noland says “Our mission as we entered the lingerie industry has always been to shift the perspective of lingerie and the power it has on self-confidence. Bringing the support of our clients, our company and Free the Girls together to make a difference give us the opportunity to continue our commitment to this powerful message.”
Melissa Watson, Free The Girls National Director adds, “At Free The Girls, we believe all women should enjoy the basic dignity of owning and wearing properly-fitting undergarments. Let's be honest, every woman has a stash of practically-new, but rarely-worn, bras in the back of her lingerie drawer. Alley Rose is not only making it easy to donate those bras to Free The Girls, they are making it worthwhile. What a treat to clean out ill-fitting bras and, in return, pick out some beautiful new pieces of lingerie from Alley Rose."
Alley Rose Lingerie Club, a division of Alley Rose Lingerie LLC, is an online, intimate product boutique that hand-selects designer lingerie for our clients through an exclusive, personalized relationship based on their unique Lingerie Style - Naughty, Romantic, Comfy or Impulsive. High-end role play, holiday costumes, lingerie for men and intimate toys are also offered in our collection. Our mission is to reignite the passion in relationships and encourage self-confidence and positive self-image through a personalized, discreet relationship with our clients.
