Galeries Lafayette's New Chief
Paul Delaoutre, who recently stepped down from the top job at mail-order fashion company La Redoute, has been appointed CEO of French department store chain Galeries Lafayette.
Delaoutre, 48, succeeds Joel Mornet, and officially takes over September 8. He will oversee a network of over 60 stores with more than 10,000 employees. The chain has been suffering in recent months from the effects of industrial action, a drop in tourism and France's continuing retail slump.
As chief of La Redoute, Delaoutre was employed by PPR, the French retail and distribution behemoth whose symbolic retail linchpin is the Printemps department store chain, specifically the famous flagship on Paris' Boulevard Haussmann.
Galeries Lafayette is Printemps' direct competitor in the French market, with its flagship located next door on the same shopping stretch.

Our roving Photographer stopped by the popular
women's wear
show but was not very welcome by the Show Producers even
though she had been pre-registered as Press.
After arguing with the front desk they allowed her in. But she was
told not to take any photo's. (I guess they do not need any
advertising) However with the permission of a few exhibitors, we at
least got a couple. Maybe you will recognize some faces.

Wright Lifts Bid For Elder-Beerman Stores To $83m
Department store group Elder-Beerman Stores Corp on Tuesday said management-led buyout group Wright Holding Inc had increased its takeover bid to $82.8 million - trumping a rival offer of $79.8m, or $7 a share, from Bon-Ton Stores Inc.
The Ohio-based operator of 68 stores said in a statement Wright had lifted its bid to $7.05 per share from its original offer price of $6 per share.

Drink beer and sit in front of that TV? You're nothing but a lazy, drunken, fat slob, and furthermore ..." The man sighs and says, "It's started ..."
