Jackson's MTV Goof
Michael Jackson was left embarrassed after he proudly accepted a
non-existent
award in front of millions of TV viewers.
Confusion arose when Britney Spears introduced the singer on stage at the
MTV Video Music Awards in New York to present him with a cake to celebrate
his 44th birthday.
Britney said that, for her, Jackson was the artist of the millennium.
But Jackson took her words to mean he was being honored as the greatest
singer of the past 1,000 years.
The star even gave an emotional acceptance speech to the celebrity-packed
audience at Radio City Music Hall, which was broadcast live across the US.
"When I was a little boy growing up in Indiana if someone told me I'd
be getting the Artist of the Millennium award, I'd never have believed
it," he said. He went on to thank God, his parents and
the magician David Blaine. MTV said today it was a all
"a bit of a misunderstanding".
"There is no such award as the Artist of the Millennium. I think some
wires got crossed," said a spokeswoman for the network.
To complete his embarrassment, Jackson was ridiculed by the show's host,
American comedian Jimmy Fallon. "Michael Jackson looks great for
44," he said as the singer left the stage. "Between you and me,
I think he's had some work done."
Christina Aguilera made the sartorial statement of the evening with her
skunked dreadlocks, a scarf fashioned into a blouse to reveal some "neathage,"
and the micro-est of minis. It looked like she was really trying to get
the word out about her upcoming album, Stripped.

Plan on a merry online
Christmas.
Despite the struggling economy, and the closure of many online commercial
sites over the last two years, online consumer spending is still growing
and at a faster pace than its brick-and-mortar counterparts.
Online consumer purchases, excluding travel, will rise 27 percent during
this year’s holiday season, according to a new report from Forrester
Research.
The report says that online spending is on pace to account for 8 percent
of total consumer retail purchases by 2007.

At the inauguration of the 59th annual Venice Film Festival, the troupes of big name actors, directors and producers came out in droves, but there was not a casual or sporty look in sight. While other festivals may be a bit
more lax on the fashion front, this was no time for dressing down. In keeping with Italy's preference for sophisticated dressing, almost every major actress opted for full-length gowns, the most frequent looks being beaded or in layers of soft chiffon.
Gwyneth Paltrow, (see Photo with Valentino) for example, chose Valentino's full length black and silver beaded couture piece featuring a very snug fit and deep plunges. The actress, who is reportedly being housed aboard the designer's luxurious yacht while in town, arrived on the arm of Val himself. Paltrow's porcelain complexion and loose blond hair provided a striking - and somewhat humorous - contrast to the exaggerated orange-tinted tan of her escort. But regardless, the Italian press has crowned the duo as "the couple of the festival."

SUIT YOURSELF
A swimsuit is probably the most difficult garment to shop for - it makes
you confront your body shape like no other garment does. On the surface it
would seem that swimsuits don't allow you to "hide" anything!
Not true. In reality, you can camouflage quite a lot with the right
swimsuit and get to enhance your assets as well. And as you soak in the
water the last thing you want to worry about is your swimsuit. Getting
that one little detail right means you can hit the pool or the beach with
confidence. A flattering swimsuit makes the most of the proportions of a
woman's figure. It's all about a careful mixing
of color, print, and the
right lines and silhouette.
Be fussy when buying a swimsuit. Check it from all angles.
Be especially
picky about straps and legs. Both should never dig
into the skin and
should lie flat without puckers. Lift arms to
check that there's enough
stretch and that bottom of swimsuit
doesn't ride up. When shopping for
swimsuits this season, keep
in mind this simple tip: find the cut that
looks best on you.
This year the trend in swimwear is about individual choice.
In the past,
women have tried to squeeze into the latest high-cut
suits or skimpy
bikinis. Not anymore! With swimsuits, whatever
looks good on you is the
right thing to wear; there is a suit that
flatters every body type.
It really isn't about how much skin you show, it's about how
you show it.
Shoppers need not limit themselves to a particular size or cut
when they
pick out suits. Instead, talk to a salesperson about
your needs and body
type. Most swimsuit retailers will have
some idea about what looks good on
your shape, and it is
often necessary to go up a size or two to achieve
the right fit.
Thanks to new fabrics and technologies, suit seekers will be
surprised by
the variety of styles that are flattering and comfortable. Whereas last
year
showing tummy was de rigueur,
this summer a woman can take a leisurely
stroll on the beach
without worrying that her belly is jiggling. In
women's
suits,
unusual materials such as crochet, faux leather, and cotton
or
rayon
knits are trendy.
For active women who want to give the impression of
showing a lot of flesh but still be able to jackknife into the deep
end
without losing their tops, suits with cutaway patterns are
functional and
chic.
STYLES
These new technologies aren't limited to flesh-baring styles. One-piece
suits or two-piece "tankinis" are preferred by most women, and
this season many of them contain comfortable elastic inserts that smooth
out problem areas and make for a sleeker figure overall.
( Right:, 1930 bathing beauty)
There is the bikini a super-skimpy triangle with side-tie bottoms, which
is
always in fashion. The tankini is a variation of the bikini. This is a sporty style that has a longer top that leaves only a small portion of the
tummy exposed .The bandini is a bikini with a bandeau (straight, strip
like
piece of fabric) top. The ramekin is the same as the tankini except the
top looks like a camisole. The maillot is a one-piece suit. This year maillots
are cut out, one-shouldered and with halter-necks. Then there are boy
legs, a longer leg resembling really short shorts.
LOOK OF THE MOMENT
When it comes to what's haute well, the glam-rock look of the '80s is
roaring. Gold has replaced silver as the metallic
color of choice;
Iridescent and shiny fabrics are abundant.
Adding to the flash are the
embellishments -- crystals, fringe trim, embroideries, sequins, buttons.
There is also a lot of metal ornamentation, such as loop chains or
fasteners. Prints are in too, especially animal patterns-from zebra
to
leopard .The florals are "bright '60s-looking florals.
Instead they
have
that trippy flower child appeal. Designers are
also showing a penchant for
paisleys. Two-toned and abstract
print swimwear leads the way.
Opt for
rich vibrant shades this season-hot pink, electric blue, rich
yellow,
notice-me -turquoise, and of course pure white and black
BODY TALK.
In order to begin your search for a swimsuit, you must first do a
body
assessment. Do a real assessment where you honestly
analyze your strong
points and your weak points.
The goal with swimwear-as with all clothing
choices-is to create
the illusion of a balanced figure.
If you have got a large bust go for halters or wide straps, which
add
support. Criss-cross or racer backs to enhance support. Light-colored
sleeves draw eyes up to the face If you have small
bust, feel free to
wear,
Padded cups built right in to add some
volume to the chest area.
Textured
fabrics or horizontal stripes to give the illusion of an
ample bust.
Lighter
colors in general or lighter on top and
darker on the bottom to attract
the
eye. Large pads look obvious
and absorb water. Consider small push-up pads
instead to enhance the bust.
Wide horizontal stripes on top or a large
color block across the chest emphasize the bust line.
If you have a big behind, favor medium or low backside coverage, pareos or
short skirts. Wide hips demand color-blocking or lighter colors on top,
which put the emphasis on your upper half Wide straps to
broaden the
shoulders Front zipper details or ruffles to divert the eyes Empire waist
suits and
square necklines, preferable
with white trim on top to raise
the
eyes up.
(Left: 1915 bathing beauty)
If you have no waist try diagonal
line or stripes or even
strategically placed slashes
of color to narrow it a bit and create the
illusion of curves
Control panel or slenderizing fabrics that nip in the
waist
darker colors at the sides and bright ones toward the center
For
short waist. wear a cardigan to hide midsection in your
way to the beach. Got a big tummy? Dive into higher
waistbands a suit with a tummy control
panel or shirring at the
sides Two-piece with a third, outside layer for
extra coverage.
If you have heavy thighs then aside from covering them up, you can't
really
do much. Try out these visual tricks though. Balance out the
body by
trying a suit with horizontal stripes on top-it will create the
illusion
of a wider torso. Accentuate the shoulders and collarbone
with a cropped
top with a boat neck or detailed neckline. Pair an athletic-cut top with a
bikini-cut bottom where the leg line reaches
just below your hipbone.
Avoid high-cut suits. Look for detail on top
of suit: piping in a
contrasting color, empire waist, etc. Stick to dark colors on the bottom,
with bright colors reserved for accents. Skirted swimsuits are not
necessarily the best choice for hiding large thighs.
Most aren't long
enough end mid-thigh; making a horizontal line that draws even more
attention to the area you wanted to hide.
Go for cover-ups like wraps,
sarongs or a flirty skirt that's
gathered at the waist. Stuck with a big
bottom? Deflect the
attention from your behind by drawing attention
elsewhere-like
your bust line.
Attract the eyes upward with detailing like
embroidery, shirring,
beaded design or a strip of color on top against a
dark suit.
Avoid high-cut suits; bottoms should hug the hips and sit below
the belly to make the curves work for you.
Stick with high-tech fabrics
like micro fiber and Lycra, which
firm and lift. Avoid shiny, metallic
fabrics, who make things
appear larger; slimming matte is a good
alternative.
Dark, solid colors are smart, but don't shy away from
patterns.
If you want prints or patterns, look for those that are
strategically
placed up top.
with swimwear-as with all clothing choices-is to create the illusion
of a
balanced figure. Finding the right swimsuit can sometimes
feel
like performing a magic trick. This one is too
revealing...that
one is not revealing enough. Let's face it; swimsuit
shopping can
be an arduous task that forces us to confront every body
issue
we've ever had in our lives. However, combining some simple
tips
with a good dose of honesty can make the task of finding
the right
swimsuit a much less daunting adventure.
FIT TIPS
-Try on a size larger than you normally wear.
You will probably find
less
tugging and a better fit.
-Take advantage of special sizing (by bra size or long torso).
-If you are trying on swimwear in a store, bend over, sit, stand
and walk
to make sure the suit will stay in place.
-Take a look at your body in a three-way mirror; if you don't
trust your
judgment, take along a friend who will tell you how
you really look in the
suit.
-Suits with built-in bras, high necklines and wide/thick straps
offer
support and eliminate digging in.
-A deep V-neck with slightly higher-cut armholes is a good
option for
support and eliminates the side bust bulge.
-There are now suits with invisible under wires: all the support is
inside
and seamless, so the outside has a smooth appearance.
-A matte fabric is the most slimming, especially in darker colors.
Well, that's it. Finding the right swimsuit is almost like a
soul-searching
experience. It requires honesty and a clear vision
of yourself, but the
most
important thing to remember is to find
a suit that you feel comfortable
and
sexy in because then and
only then will you feel right. Happy swimming!
