July saw a massive spike in total online sales, up 80% on last year to a new all-time high of GBP4.2bn (US$8.3bn) according to Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG).
The IMRG Index burst above 4000 for the first time ever and sales for the month were GBP1.86bn higher than in July 2006.

                     High Levels of
Formaldehyde Found in
      Imported Clothes

A batch of clothing imported into New Zealand from China has been found to allegedly carry dangerous levels of the chemical formaldehyde.
The country's ministry of consumer affairs is analyzing clothing samples to see whether the allegations, made on a TV show, are true.
The clothing, including school shorts, a T-shirt and pajamas, had up to 900 times the amount of formaldehyde deemed safe by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to local press.
A radio station reported that formaldehyde, a chemical used to give a new anti-wrinkle effect to clothes, can cause eye, skin and nasal irritations, respiratory problems, asthma and cancer at sufficient doses.

Badgley Mischka Signs Hatcher
Iconix Brand Group has announced that Desperate Housewives actress Teri Hatcher will appear in the autumn marketing campaign for its luxury brand Badgley Mischka.
The print campaign will debut in September issues of Vogue, InStyle and Vanity Fair and extend online and outdoor.
The campaign, described as "sexy and provocative," ranges from a day poolside in swimwear to lounging around the house in revealing lingerie, the company said.
The leggy actress wears saucy black and white lingerie and a garter belt in the upcoming print ads. She says, "I don't know what possessed me that day. I think I had a lot of faith in the photographer."
The direction of the campaign is a first for the brand as it features other collections in addition to couture, including eveningwear, sportswear, handbags, eyewear, footwear, cold weather accessories, jewelry, lingerie, swimwear, fur, fragrance, bridal and bridesmaids.
Designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka said: "Teri represents the Badgley Mischka woman. Teri can wear Badgley Mischka to a red carpet event or she can put on a piece from our sportswear and handbag collection to run an errand.
"We are excited to bring glamour and old Hollywood style to women across the world with our new collections, and are ecstatic to be partnering with such a beautiful and amazing talent on the campaign."
The designers and Hatcher will collaborate on numerous launch initiatives over the next few months, it was added.

Forensic Scientist Fired Over
        Private Test
A Michigan forensics scientist who said she tested her husband's underwear for DNA to determine whether he was unfaithful has been fired.
Ann Chamberlain testified in a March 7 divorce hearing that she ran the test last September on the underwear of her husband, Charles Gordon Jr.
Asked by his lawyer what she found, she answered: "Another female. It wasn't me."
She said during another hearing that she ran the test on her own time with expired chemicals that were set to be thrown away.
The Michigan State Police, which oversees the Lansing forensics laboratory where Chamberlain worked, announced that it had fired her effective August 16 after conducting an internal investigation into violations of department administrative policy.
State police policies dealing with the care and use of property state that "department supplies, materials or equipment shall not be used for any non-duty or non-department purpose."
A lawyer for Gordon, Michael Maddaloni, said his client - who court records show played with the Canadian Football League from the early 1990s through 1997 - disputed his wife's testimony that he had acknowledged a sexual encounter with another woman after she found the female DNA on his underwear.
Chamberlain worked for the state police as a forensic scientist since 1999 and was interim supervisor of the biology unit in 2005, according to information posted on the website of Williamston-based Forensic Science Consultants Inc, where she began doing laboratory analysis last year.
She received an award for Outstanding Contribution to the Michigan State Police Biological Services in 2006 for her research and method development in embryonic/fetal DNA recovery, according to the website.

          Invest Wisely
If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1000.00. With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left. If you had purchased $1000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49.00 left.
But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
It's called the 401-Keg Plan.

Klum to Represent Jordache
Jordache's latest advertising campaign will feature supermodel Heidi Klum, who follows in the footsteps of Liz Hurley in representing the jeans designer.
Shot by movie director Brett Ratner in the penthouse of the Chateau Marmont, the ads feature Klum clad in classic Jordache Jeans and equestrian gear evoking the spirit of the iconic Jordache horse, the company said.
The multifaceted campaign will include an integrated viral component, bicoastal outdoor presence and print ads that will run in national publications beginning in September.
"We are excited to be working with Heidi Klum," said Liz Berlinger, president of Jordache Enterprises.
"She has a fashion edginess and classic sophistication that represents our new styling and direction this season. And with her success as a supermodel, business woman and mother, Heidi embodies the sexy confidence that the Jordache brand is about.
