ACC to Shut Down?
Beleaguered clothing and textile producer PT Apac Citra Centertex (ACC) could be about to shut down its factory.
Benny Soetrisno, president of PT Apac Inti Corpora, an ACC subsidiary, said the company was considering ceasing operations and
selling the factory’s machinery, using the proceeds to invest in other, more profitable companies.
However, he added that while considering the move, the company would be replacing its old machines. The company has more than
13,000 employees.
Garment production at ACC all but ceased in the first half of this year, falling 97% to 1,516 pieces. Sales were up nearly 50% as last
year’s stock was unloaded by the company.

Lingerie
Americas Show
in New York
Lingerie Americas, the main event of New York intimate fashion market week, occupied center stage
from July 30 thru August 1, 2006. Everybody who is anybody in the lingerie and fashion industry crossed the threshold of the Altman Building/Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea to view and shop the
exciting Spring-Summer 2007 collections.
A total of 2709 professionals, buyers, merchandisers, stores owners visited the
Lingerie Americas show. This translates in a yearly increase of 2% over the last summer market. A majority has been frequenting the venue for the past four years and has come to rely on it for the wealth and variety of its offerings and its convenience: a one-stop shopping like no other place in North America. Many new buyers, intrigued by the impeccable reputation and high-level of professionalism, joined ranks from all corners of the American continent. Business was brisk and brand representatives expressed their satisfaction with the business they generated as well as with the quality of leads gained.
The daily fashion shows declined in three segments – foundations & daywear, swimwear and sleepwear & loungewear – presented every single day, attracted many onlookers and press representatives. 180 silhouettes came down the runway and created a vivid illustration of the collections shown on the exhibit floors. Buyers could easily move between the brands’ booths and the live presentations which made the purchasing decision all the more easy. A missed show could easily be caught at another time or the following day. This novel approach to formal fashion shows proved to be perfectly adapted to the buyers’ busy schedule during market week.
Also new this season was the expanded exhibit floor called The Level, located on the fifth floor of the Metropolitan Pavilion.
Forty-five new brands were showcased bringing the total number of brands present close to 300. A new product category made its entrance at Lingerie Americas -- the erotic-sensual – and was represented by reputable brands such as René Rofé, Shirley of Hollywood and Playboy Intimates. Lingerie stores looking for ways to differentiate their offerings found new possibilities.
Wear?Canada! renewed its partnership with Lingerie Americas for this edition. Its well-frequented lounge raised the awareness of the 22 Canadian brands on the floor. The expertise, quality, creativity and competitive prices of these brands draw the attention of many buyers.
Lingerie Americas will return to the Altman Building and Metropolitan Pavilion in February 2007 to present the Fall-Winter 2007/2008 collections.

Jones Apparel No Longer
for Sale
After five months on the auction block, Jones Apparel has decided
to stick to its current business plan rather than selling itself off.
The clothing designer and marketer "has concluded that at this time the continued execution of the company's strategic plan will create
greater long-term value for shareholders than a sale of the company ", Jones said.
Reports had named Bain Capital as lead suitor in the auction process. However, the two parties could not agree on a sale price,
it was suggested.
President and CEO Peter Boneparth added: "Jones has built a reputation for excellence in product quality and value. The board,
management team and I look forward to continuing to grow and strengthen Jones's position as a leader in the apparel, footwear,
accessories, and retail industries."

IDIOT SIGHTING
At a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker.
She was leaving the company due to "downsizing."
Our manager commented cheerfully, "This is fun. We should do this more often."
Not another word was spoken.
We all just looked at each other with that deer-in-the-headlights stare.
ETO Names Dreamgirl "Erotic Clothing Brand of the Year"
Christopher C. Scharff, CEO of Dreamgirl International, announced that Dreamgirl had won the “Erotic Clothing Brand of the Year” Award given by the readers of ETO Magazine in the United Kingdom. “Winning this award is a real honor” said Scharff “and is the result of three years of Sales & Marketing efforts in the British Market both by Dreamgirl but also by our UK Distributor, Got Lingerie Limited.” “Separately, our UK Distributor also won the UK Distributor of the Year and the Marketer of the Year awards” cited Scharff who also added that “we are extremely proud of our UK distributor’s efforts and also of the excellent leadership shown by Nicola Read, Managing Director, and Ryan Mobbs, Sales Director.”
According to industry sources, Dreamgirl’s sales have more than increased six fold since the company was acquired 3 years ago by Scharff and longtime Dreamgirl Executive Vice President, Alma Y. Canjura, from the former owner and founder, Patricia Fischer.
From the company’s UK headquarters, Dreamgirl CEO, Christopher Scharff remarked “Our organization continues to execute its business plan across all product categories and in all markets. I am extremely proud of our management, employees, sales representatives, distributors and vendor partners for their dedication and hard work in pursuit of our goals and vision,”
