Now they want to put the Ann Summers label on everythong
Ann Summers, the self-styled "passion and fashion" shopping chain which sells over two million vibrators to British women every year, is diversifying into mainstream consumer products. It wants to market Ann Summers-branded goods such as sandwiches, suitcases and even cars, from as early as next year.
The retailer, best known for its lingerie, hosiery and sex toys, is confident the brand is now strong enough to move into direct competition with its more strait-laced high-street neighbors.  For more on this story click here

Wearing your bra on your sleeve!
No more worries about ugly white bra straps peeking out from underneath that sexy black camisole or spaghetti strap dress.
Instead of a fashion faux pas, it's now a cool fashion statement to show those straps - but only if you have the right look.
Bra straps are a hot new accessory, designed to complement an outfit like a piece of jewelry or a scarf.
Patricia Walker is already a bra strap fanatic. Since stumbling upon the Sunrise-based www.brastraps.com  a few months ago, she's bought about 40 pairs, some with rhinestones, colored beads and flowers.
Walker has colors and styles to match all her clothes. And neutral ones like clear beads or virtually invisible clear straps. Every morning, she picks out the perfect straps.
"They're beautiful and they really accent your outfit," said Walker, 36, a Realtor who lives in Coral Springs, Florida. "I love them."
It's the latest wrinkle in the trend of underwear as outerwear, which started with Madonna and her bustier.
But brastraps.com didn't invent the idea. Victoria's Secret and several bra manufacturers have tested the market with similar ways to liven up lingerie.
"It's almost a necessity for a woman who wants to be on trend with what's going on in fashion," said Sara Tervo, a Victoria's Secret spokeswoman. "People are having fun with undergarments showing through."

Clothing Giant Gap Triples Q2 Profit On Strong Sales

Clothing giant Gap Inc on Thursday revealed it more than tripled its
second quarter earnings as it was boosted by strong sales and
same-store sales growth despite the difficult retail environment.

Dillard’s Q2 Sales Fall 5%, Net Loss Climbs
Department store operator Dillard's Inc on Wednesday reported a 5 per cent drop in second quarter sales.
Sales for the 13 weeks ended 2 August 2003 were $1.7 billion compared to $1.8 billion in the same quarter last year. Same-store sales also fell 5 per cent.
The Little Rock, Arkansas-based company said net loss was $50.4 million for the quarter compared with net income of $6.7 million in the prior year. The 2003 quarter included one-time charges for store closings and debt-related items.     Sales for the 26 week period were $3.5 billion compared to $3.7 billion for the first half last year – a decrease of 5 per cent. Likewise, same-stores sales were down 5 per cent.

Charming Shoppes Posts Q2 Profit, Sales Slide
Specialty retailer of women's plus-size fashions, Charming Shoppes Inc, posted a fall in second quarter earnings as soft sales at its Lane Bryant brand hampered the group's performance.
The operator of 2,240 stores under banners such as Fashion Bug and Catherine's Plus Sizes said net sales for 13 week period fell five per cent, with same-store sales down one per cent.
The company reaffirmed its breakeven earnings projection for the current quarter and said it sees negative mid single digit same-store sales in August, and flat same-store sales for the full quarter.
"We were pleased with the operating performance at Fashion Bug and Catherine's Plus Sizes stores. These brands had comparable store sales increases and improvements in the gross margin, year over year.
"However, disappointing performance at our Lane Bryant brand, which continues to be difficult, more than offset our positive performance at Fashion Bug and Catherine's."

Late one night in Washington, D.C., a mugger jumped a well-dressed man and held a gun to his ribs.
"Give me your money!" he demanded. The man stiffened, but said indignantly, "You can't do this to me - I'm a U. S. Congressman!"
"In that case," replied the robber, "give me my money!"

New alarm in Priscilla's dispute with city
Liberty, Missouri officials found out the loud way last week that Priscilla's had violated a city ordinance by installing an alarm system before the adult business had a proper permit.
Priscilla's, a national chain of stores that sell sexy lingerie, videos, magazines, marital aids and novelty items, wants to open a store at the location.
"We had no record they even had an alarm until we got the call," Anderson said. The alarm was false, he said.
Anderson said all businesses that have an alarm system
are required to obtain a permit and register with the police department.
"This is a very important part of our ordinance," Anderson said. "Everyone is required to have a permit."
Last month - on the advice of its attorney - the city declined to issue a permit for installation of a security system at the proposed Priscilla's.
Although they have no permission to open for business, Anderson said, Priscilla's owners have also continued to stock the shelves.
Under the city's current ordinances, Priscilla's is required to apply for an adult business license before appearing before the City Council for final approval to open.
Priscilla's attorneys contend it is not an adult business but a gift store and does not need a special license to operate.

Priscilla's attorneys filed a lawsuit late last month in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, alleging the city is violating the U.S. Constitution and Missouri State Constitution by illegally trying to keep the adult novelty store from doing business.
"The building and land were owned by McDonald's Corporation," Essig said. "They sold it to Vince Walton the first part of the year."
Judging from what has happened in surrounding cities, Priscilla's attorneys appear confident they can successfully challenge the city's definition of an adult business.
"We cannot prohibit an adult business but we can regulate it," Kapke said. "Our ordinances define an adult business."
There are eight Priscilla's stores operating in metropolitan Kansas City.
