Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Eleven years ago, a collaboration between Estee Lauder and Self magazine launched the pink ribbon into the world's consciousness as the international symbol for breast cancer awareness. Today, those simple bows pinned to lapels have given birth to items like pink trench coats, panties, and lip palettes -- all created to benefit, and bring attention to, the cause. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a range of retailers are offering pink products that let consumers shop for a cure.
Figleaves
This UK-based online lingerie retailer is bringing its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign to the US this month, teaming up with Beau Bra to create a new collection, called Grace. In the US, proceeds from the pink and pale gold chantilly lace bra and thong set ($70) and camisole and boy shorts set ($90) will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. All the looks incorporate pink satin ribbons symbolic of the cause. Only available at figleaves.com.
Eberjey
Fifty percent of proceeds from Eberjey's candy-striped low-rise bloomers go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The $34 panties are lace-edged, with a satin bow on each hip. Pick up a pair at

Federated Department Stores Drops FCUK Brand
Federated Department Stores Inc on Thursday dropped the controversial FCUK brand from its shelves following complaints by the conservative American Family Association about a saucy advert.
The company decided to drop the French Connection brand from its Macy's and Bloomingdales stores due to an advert for FCUK perfume which featured a half-naked couple and the slogan "Scent to Bed".
Saucy cover-up for charity event

Peter Stringfellow is getting his dancers to put their bras on for a charity event.
The club boss is getting his girls, who normally perform in a state of undress, to wear bras customised by celebrities for a fashion show.
Joan Collins, Mel C, Sam Fox and Harry Enfield are among celebs who have added a personal touch to the bras which are being auctioned for breast cancer charity the Haven Trust.
His dancers, the Angels, are better known for dancing naked, but they will be giving their support by strutting in bras made by undies firm Myla.
But a spokeswoman for the event said: "We can't guarantee that they won't be taking them off straight afterwards."
The event on October 14 was the first time Stringfellow has used his renowned club for a fashion show.
Others who have customised the lingerie are Kirsty Gallacher, Melinda Messenger, Tara Palmer-Tompkinson and Nell McAndrew.
Ruth Shane, who used the Haven Trust's services when she had cancer, came up with the idea to help sufferers but also celebrate femininity.
"Mastectomy and chemotherapy can pretty much destroy a woman's sense of femininity and self-esteem," she said.
"I wanted to create a fun event that celebrated the fact that women can still feel whole about themselves with the help of The Haven Trust. During the six months of my chemotherapy I attended The Haven every week and through the support of complementary therapies, counselling, and a wonderful healing environment, I rediscovered the will to fight the disease and not feel a victim."

Runways show spring colors
Next spring will be bright and sunny, flowers will be out in full and women will be flirty and feminine if fashion designers have their way.
The looks that filled the runways during fashion week in New York, a semi-annual extravaganza that ended on Friday, burst with florals and vivid splashes of color.
"We saw tremendous color on the runway," said Jaqui Lividini, senior vice president of fashion merchandising at Saks Fifth Avenue. "It was one of the most colorful seasons I remember in a long time."
Color was truly everywhere, in floral baby doll dresses at BCBG Max Azria, rich embroidery at Matthew Williamson and bold solid splashes at Carolina Herrera, Anne Klein, Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, Bill Blass and Oscar de la Renta.
Ralph Lauren, who showed on Friday, mixed candy-like tones of peach, fuchsia, lilac and kiwi green in a sporty line of halter dresses, short skirts with kicky pleats and sleek gowns inspired by the look of V-neck cable tennis sweaters.
Overall, critics said designers played it safe. New York's Daily News summed up the clothes with the headline, "Beautiful but a bit boring" and complained there was "nothing new" on offer.
"They got battered and bruised and burned and beat up at the cash register at Christmas and they didn't have a great summer," said Godfrey Deeny, editor in chief of the Fashion Wire Daily. "I think this is the best solution they could come up with."

New-wave lingerie ads tell it like it is - tits 'n' all
Art director Marie Mansfield, left, and writer Mel Coenen, the women behind a controversial bra commercial.
Sexy, or sexist? There's a fine line between the two, but young women can see it and advertisers know how to exploit it.
You've heard of reality television, now it's reality advertising. Tell it like it is, even if it makes the feminist bra-burners beat their chests with indignation, because the bra-loving younger generation have burnt the rules for political correctness.
Bras are central to the revolution, because the message from the recent Lovable ad featuring Secret Life of Us actor Samuel Johnson is that women focus on the lingerie and men on the breasts, so we shouldn't jolt when the woman in the ad thinks "Nice bra" and Johnson thinks "Great tits".
Lovable's cup runneth over because bra sales are up, but the ad has ignited debate: should we be offended at what men really think, and is the ad sexy or sexist?
Before you decry the macho male who dreamt up the ad, the honor goes to two women from the George Patterson Bates agency: writer Mel Coenen and art director Marie Mansfield, the creators of the Tim Tam ads promoting "sisterhood" and the genie who banishes an unwitting boyfriend to Vladivostok.
It's not so much sex sells as truth sells. The "Planet Patts" duo said the Lovable ad was realistic and humorous, and their mission was to inject some honesty into an often false advertising world.
"Advertising tends to use a language that is a little false - very PC - and we decided to cut through the bullshit and actually say what people think," Ms Coenen said. "People are confusing the ad with being sexist when it's really honest."
Ms Mansfield said the Lovable ad was not meant to disempower men, but depict how they think: "They wouldn't say 'nice boobs' or 'great bosoms'."

After reading about the recent sad loss of Pat Fischer (Dreamgirl
Lingerie), I wanted to relate a wonderful story about her to your readers in the lingerie industry. Many of you know Miss Pat personally, and I was lucky enough have met her in Orlando last year at The International Lingerie Show in early 2002. I own a successful home party business in Alabama, and my business is only 3 years old now. Anyway, I was walking down the rows of the trade show, making my way around, attempting to absorb all the activity going on around me. (It was my first lingerie industry trade show.) Then I heard her voice...Miss Pat was chatting and laughing and having the best
time at her Dreamgirl booth!
She saw me passing by and asked me to sit down and talk with her, so I did. She proceeded to ask me all about my little company. I must have been sitting there for an hour when I realized that I was probably keeping her from her other clients. She gave me lots of support for my business ideas, and she told me about how she grew her own business, and how much fun she had doing it! She was all smiles! She gave me her business card, and told me if I ever needed any advice to call her directly. I really appreciated that. I walked away from her booth thinking that she is the nicest most fun lady in the whole world. Thank you, Miss Pat! We will miss you!

THE PERFECT HUSBAND
There are several men sitting around in the locker room of a private club after exercising. Suddenly a cell phone on one of the benches rings. One of the men picks it up, and the following conversation ensues:
"Hello?"
"Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"
"Yes."
"Great! I am at the mall two blocks from where you are. I just saw a beautiful mink coat. It's absolutely gorgeous!! Can I buy it?"
"What's the price?"
"Only $1,500.00."
"Well, OK, go ahead and get it, if you like it that much ... "
"Ahhh, and I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the 2003 models. I saw one I really liked. I spoke with the salesman, and he gave me a really good price ... and since we need to exchange the BMW that we bought last year ... "
"What price did he quote you?"
"Only $60,000 ... "
"OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."
"Great! But before we hang up, something else ... "
"What?"
"It might look like a lot, but I was reconciling your bank account and I stopped by the real estate agent this morning and saw the house we had looked at last year. It's on sale!! Remember? The one with a pool, English Garden, acre of park area, beachfront property ... "
"How much are they asking?"
"Only $450,000 - a magnificent price ... and I see that we have that much in the bank to cover ... "
"Well, then go ahead and buy it, but just bid $420,000. OK?"
"OK, sweetie ... Thanks! I'll see you later!! I love you!!!"
"Bye ... I do too ... "
The man hangs up, closes the phone's flap, and raises his hand while holding the phone and asks to all those present:
"Does anyone know who this phone belongs to?
