Ban the Bounce – The Importance of Sports Bras

Have you ever watched a woman jog down the street without a sports bra, breasts bouncing in a way that can only be described as painful? Ouch! Why go through that torture? Particularly when fantastic exercise bras are out there in a range of sizes and styles.

A sports bra is an essential garment for any woman who exercises, but many women never think to buy properly fitted bras for their workouts. In fact, some studies suggest that a whopping 73 percent of women who work out regularly do not wear sports bras. According to Sarah Weiner from lingerie boutique Trousseau, in Vienna, VA, “Some women wear old bras as sports bras, but that’s the worst thing you can do.” Old bras are already stretched beyond their ability to provide adequate support, so they certainly won’t hold up to the job of giving you the support you need during an active workout.

                       by JAC Photography

The Journal of Science and Medicine in Sports has done extensive research on this subject and their findings strongly support the use of sports bras for active women. A sports bra significantly reduces breast movement and accompanying pain when exercising. Repetitive motion, which is a by-product of exercise for women, can also increase the rate of damage to delicate breast tissue, causing sagging and stretch marks – and nobody wants that. These can be avoided or at least minimized by the right sports bra. The threat to breast tissue is evident at every cup size -- even an A-cup woman can get vertical stretch marks if she doesn’t take care of her breasts. These days, women can find great sports bras in a wide variety of sizes, from an A-cup to a K-cup.

Cool Max Sports Bra by Lunaire

There are two main kinds of sports bras: compression and encapsulation. Compression bras do exactly what their name implies; they push the tissue tightly against the body in a single cavity, making it more difficult for the breasts to move. Compression bras aren’t ideal for well-endowed women.

Anyone larger than a C-cup should strongly consider an encapsulation style bra. These are built and sized more like a standard bra, with each breast encased in an individual cup. Encapsulation bras feature bands with hooks and eyes and adjustable straps. Some encapsulation bras are underwire, to provide a more flattering and firm fit.

In the past few years, a number of new sports bras have entered the market, and some are specifically designed for different body types. In 2012, The Little Bra Company will be introducing a sports bra for petite women. This bra has light padding, to enhance a small-busted woman’s curves, while simultaneously providing needed support. After three years of design innovations, Panache is also introducing a new sports bra for cup sizes D-H. The bra achieved a 5-star rating for larger cup sizes from Progressive Sports Technologies, in the UK. In their studies, the bra was found to reduce bounce by 83% (in a size 32E, in comparison to exercising while wearing no bra).

Ultimately, the goal of a sports bra is to eliminate bounce, and keep your girls stable. Each jarring step does its damage, which adds up over time. The bottom line is clear – if you’re exercising, a properly fitting sports bra is an essential piece for both overall fitness and long-term health.

               Bare All Apparel

Bare All Apparel is a women’s lingerie company based in the heart of the Midwest in Sioux City, Iowa. The company was established in 2010 by David and Tracie Franko and Stan Lupkes to promote a new, fun and sexy women’s underwear product that is versatile, comfortable and a great alternative to the thong since there are no “wedgies” and no panty lines to show under clothing.
Why didn’t someone think of this before?

Why it was that most panties ‘covered up’ the best part – Why not keep the important material in the front and under-sides of the panties, but expose the back?! The key was to eliminate the uncomfortable string, yet design a panty that was practical, comfortable, and sexy.
The Bare All Cheeks panty is born and the US Patent office recently issued a patent for Bare All Apparel’s new panty.

For going out! For working out!

Bare All Apparel has teamed up with George Hardy Sales and Marketing, a company with an extensive background in the lingerie and intimate apparel market to help launch the brand in the U.S. market. George Hardy, the company’s president, was quoted as saying, “I couldn’t be more excited to team up with a company that had such a great vision and was able to bring a great new concept to women’s lingerie that solves the “wedgie” problem, prevents panty lines from showing and is extremely comfortable to wear.” CONTACT INFORMATION:

First Friday Art Shows:
"While Dreams Sleep" by
   Skye Sarenana-Velten
On Friday, October 7, 2011 from 6pm to 9pm, Lille Boutique will be hosting an artist's reception for local artist, musician and model, Skye Sarenana-Velten. Her watercolor paintings and pencil drawings run the gamut, from vast, pastel-hued dreamscapes to entomological illustrations of insects. Her family's scientific background had a major influence on her work: her mother is a field biologist, and her father is an entomologist, so she grew up with chameleons, walking sticks, and hissing cockroaches wandering around the house. Sarenana-Velten, who sings in the band Floorboards with her husband, has been modeling professionally in Portland for the past two years. She is fascinated by nature and strives to understand the vast universe around her, dabbling in stop-motion animation and other creative endeavors when she isn't modeling or performing. At their best, her illustrations evoke the dreamlike eloquence of Japanese film director Hayao Miyazaki's stunning animation, with similar themes of environmentalism, mysticism and the mechanics of flight.
Lille Boutique and Lille Trousseau carry high-end lingerie, antiques, accessories and swimwear, with an emphasis on cutting-edge, independent design and natural fibers. This free event will be open to the general public, and complimentary refreshments will be served. Lille Boutique is located at 1007 E. Burnside St. on the north corner of 10th Ave. For more information, email info@lilleboutique.com with “Skye Sarenana-Velten” in the subject line.

Memory Storing Fiber
Researchers working on the integration of electronics into textiles with a view to creating smart fabrics and wearable electronics have developed a new flexible memory fabric that can retain information for more than 100 days.
The fabric, which has been developed by Jin-Woo Han and Meyya Meyyappan at the Center for Nanotechnology at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, is woven together from interlocking strands of copper and copper-oxide wires.
At each juncture, or stitch along the fabric, a nanoscale dab of platinum is placed between the fibers. This "sandwich structure" at each crossing forms a "resistive memory circuit" with the copper wires and the platinum layers serve as the bottom and top electrodes.
As described in the AIP's journal AIP Advances, this design easily lends itself to textiles because it naturally forms a crossbar memory structure where the fibers intersect.
The copper wires were one millimeter thick in the prototype, though smaller diameter wire would allow for an increase in memory density and a reduction in weight. In practical applications, e-textiles would need to integrate a battery or power generator, sensors, and a computational element, as well as a memory structure.
Taken together, an e-textile could potentially detect biomarkers for various diseases, monitor vital signs of the elderly or individuals in hostile environments, and then transmit that information to doctors.

Best Divorce Letter Ever
Dear Wife, I’m writing you this letter to tell you that I’m leaving you forever. I’ve been a good man to you for 7 years & I have nothing to show for it. These last 2 weeks have been hell. ... Your boss called to tell me that you quit your job today & that was the last straw. Last week, you came home & didn’t even notice I had a new haircut, had cooked your favorite meal & even wore a brand new pair of silk boxers. You ate in 2 minutes, & went straight to sleep after watching all of your soaps. You don’t tell me you love me anymore; you don’t want sex or anything that connects us as husband & wife. Either you’re cheating on me or you don’t love me anymore; whatever the case, I’m gone. Your EX-Husband P.S. don’t try to find me. Your SISTER & I are moving away to West Virginia together! Have a great life!
—— Dear Ex-Husband Nothing has made my day more than receiving your letter. It’s true you & I have been married for 7 years, although a good man is a far cry from what you’ve been. I watch my soaps so much because they drown out your constant whining & griping Too bad that doesn’t work. I DID notice when you got a hair cut last week, but the 1st thing that came to mind was ‘You look just like a girl!’ Since my mother raised me not to say anything if you can’t say something nice, I didn’t comment. And when you cooked my favorite meal, you must have gotten me confused with MY SISTER, because I stopped eating pork 7 years ago. About those new silk boxers: I turned away from you because the $49.99 price tag was still on them, & I prayed it was a coincidence that my sister had just borrowed $50 from me that morning.
After all of this, I still loved you & felt we could work it out. So when I hit the lotto for 10 million dollars, I quit my job & bought us 2 tickets to Jamaica But when I got home you were gone.. Everything happens for a reason, I guess. I hope you have the fulfilling life you always wanted. My lawyer said that the letter you wrote ensures you won’t get a dime from me. So take care. Signed, Your Ex-Wife, Rich As Hell & Free!
P.S. I don’t know if I ever told you this, but my sister Carla was born Carl. I hope that’s not a problem...

eBay's Virtual Outlet Mall
Online retailer and auction house eBay has launched a virtual outlet mall in the US that provides shoppers with "anytime, anywhere" access to discounted designer fashion from labels like BCBG, Brooks Brothers, Fila and Timberland.
Fashion Outlet builds on the momentum of eBay's debut outlet sites in the UK and Germany, and extends the retailer's clothing, shoes and accessories selection. It also provides brands and retailers with access to an entirely new customer base.
"Outlets are the fastest-growing retail channel, and we're excited to bring that shopping experience and value to our shoppers," said Miriam Lahage, eBay head of global fashion brand.
"The Fashion Outlet on eBay represents a new, innovative off-price sales channel for brands, retailers and designers to drive multi-channel distribution and incremental sales and engage a new audience by tapping into our community of dedicated shopping enthusiasts."
Women's and men's apparel, denim, shoes and handbags will be available at 20% to 65% off the manufacturer's suggested retail price.
Within the site, shoppers can browse by store, by brand, or by category from a growing roster of dedicated virtual storefronts, offering more than 200 favorite brands and designers. Other brands included in the line-up are Neiman Marcus Last Call, Spanx, Jockey, William Rast, Custo Barcelona and Hanes.
eBay has evolved its fashion business strategy to include the eBay Fashion iPhone app, the eBay Fashion Vault which offers flash sales of branded merchandise, and the Designer Exclusives program which has featured exclusive, ready-to-wear fashion and accessories from designers like Narciso Rodriguez, Derek Lam and Alexander Wang.

Push to Relax Germany's
   Sunday Trading Rules
The vice president of Germany's retail federation has called for the government to relax its restrictive Sunday trading laws.
Speaking at the World Retail Congress yesterday on July 26, Lovro Mandac, who is also chairman of the management board for department store chain Galeria Kaufhof, described the law as "unbelievable", criticizing the government for listening to churches and unions, who oppose any changes to the current legislation.
He doubted that the current coalition will move to change the law, saying that hopefully it will change but that "everybody is too afraid of the unions, especially the churches".
Mandac emphasized that even in Italy the pope has given retailers permission to trade on Sundays for eight months of the year. "Maybe they have forgotten that he is still a German," said Mandac.
