Saudi's Shoura Council's Proposal to Regulate Business
Hours
By an overwhelming majority, the Shoura Council recently voted for a
proposal to study regulating the business hours of shopping centers. Those who opposed the move cited economic losses and social habits.
The proposal was presented by Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Naiem and the majority of the members agreed to form a committee to study the 16 point system which he proposed. The proposal includes setting the working hours of shopping centers from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., closing only for prayers. Grocery stores are exempted as they would be allowed to stay open for more hours. The proposal also calls for taxing expatriate employees for the benefit of the Human Resource Development Fund. In order to encourage Saudis to take jobs in shopping centers and thus reduce unemployment, the proposal suggests specifying a Saudi employee's salary at a minimum of SR2,000 and including these Saudis in the social security system.
The discussion of working hours produced many objections. The economic committee at the Shoura Council rejected the whole proposal on the basis that in some cities, such as Makkah and Madinah, the regulations on working hours would hurt businesses which rely on seasonal shoppers. Other cities' climates and social habits, pointed out the committee, do not support early opening and closing hours as they would also hurt business.
The committee suggested the proposal be discussed in local municipality councils, but the majority of Shoura members rejected the suggestion and voted in favor of studying the proposal. Those who supported it said that the proposal was important because of its economic, social and behavioral benefits and therefore required a thorough study in order to make the appropriate regulations.
Business owners are naturally concerned about the regulations because they would affect profits.
The government has recently mandated that saleswomen should work at stores selling women's items, particularly lingerie stores, within two years and that they should not work after sunset.

Lingerie Classique Show
The second Lingerie Classique Show must be deemed a success based on the comments from buyers and exhibitors alike. Unfortunately, this show was
equal to starting from scratch, because we missed a season due to limited space at the RIO Hotel. This will not happen again.
Lingerie Classique will
take place every spring and every fall from now on.
Just about every exhibitor at the October show indicated that they will be
back. Most saw that this show can grow to rival the European Shows and perhaps outpace the NY Show. Along with the normal buyer for Classique
type merchandise, buyers from across the shall at the Int'l. Lingerie Show
came to see what was being offered, and a great number sat down and bought.
Las Vegas is the natural destination for a major tradeshow and Lingerie Classique is fast becoming a vital partner to the
Int'l. Lingerie Show. Exhibitor
costs are half of what New York is asking and the buyer turnout is double.
The math is quite easy. Buyers from everywhere except New York City, itself, find coming to Las Vegas easier and less expensive than going to New
York..... and much more fun.
The next Lingerie Classique Show will again be held in the Brasilia Ballroom
of the RIO hotel April 3rd, 4th & 5th, 2006. There are special incentives for
exhibitors who sign up early and a discount for buyers who pre-register and
stay at the RIO Hotel. Call Michael at Specialty Trade Shows (305/598-7019) or check
www.lingerieclassique.com for details.

Goody's Signs Buyout Deal
Retailer Goody's Family Clothing has signed a definitive deal to be bought by buyout companies GMM Capital and Prentice Capital for $9.60 per share.
Goody’s board of directors has unanimously approved the transaction, which follows the cancellation of an initial deal with Sun Capital to be bought for $8 per share.
Goody's received an all cash offer of $8.85 per share from GMM and Prentice on October 23, which started negotiations with Sun Capital over a possible revised proposal.
Sun Capital provided written notice to Goody's that it had terminated the merger agreement . Goody's Board subsequently approved a revised proposal of $9.60 from Prentice and GMM after having received another bid from a third party.
Goody's sells moderately-priced family apparel in 371 stores in the US.

The Confession
The girl knelt in the confessional and said, "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned."
"What is it, child?"
"Father, I have committed the sin of vanity. Twice a day I gaze at myself in the mirror and tell myself how beautiful I am."
The priest turned, took a good look at the girl, and said, "My dear, I have good news. That isn't a sin... it's simply a mistake."

Please, would you be so kind to help us some more? We are looking for new partners that manufacture and wholesale clothes for all age groups. Is there any good directory or web directory that list them. We are looking for stuff like J. Valentine, J.Lo, Hot Sauce style, good jeans companies (stuff that can be seen on
www.arizonajean.com), children clothes, as well as some more conservative clothes for older people etc etc. Do you know of one good place where to find a directory of them all?
Thank you very much for your help.
Ciao and take care!
