The International Lingerie
Show in Las Vegas
The final International Lingerie Show at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas was a huge success according to Michael Moreira, Show Manager for Specialty Trade Shows, Inc., the show's producer.
Over 600 accounts visited the show bringing a total of about 2000 buyers
to the floor. Once again the hall was sold out; making this 7 shows in a row.
In April 0f 2004 the show moves to The RIO Hotel where there will be a little more room and a world of difference in class of service and amenities for buyers and exhibitors alike. Mr. Moreira feels that the
RIO Pavilion, although sixty or so booths bigger will also be sold out.
Michael said plans are under way for a new "BETTER GOODS" show to be held separately but on the same dates as the International Lingerie Show in a separate part of the RIO. The RIO will
provide us with a flexibility to grow that was not available at the Trop.
Further, Michael glowed about the additional locations for the ILS in Orlando and NYC. Las Vegas is great, but East Coast buyers do not attend in the numbers that we wanted so we are bringing our show to them.
Both cities have had success in the past and now are ready to boom.
The International Lingerie Shows are growing and continue to be an important part of the lingerie marketplace in The United States and overseas.

THE MAGIC WORLD OF LINGERIE
Lingerie is not only a question of seduction, it also reflect the society. Lingerie is often a ritual for the men and the women. For exemple a women working in a traditional environnement like a bank, might want to wear on a rainy day a red corset so she feel energized and a men might offer a lacy black teddy to his girlfriend for a week end in his country house to show his love and appreciation.
Lingerie is an extention of the body, and in the years 2000 it should be a mix of beauty, comfort and support in the case of underwears.
Lingerie is a very efficient marketing tool, think about the madonna wave and her Jean-Paul Gaulthier 50’s corset or the million dollars Victoria Secret ruby bra that was attracting the men and women attention featured on the first page of their catalog and web site. Victoria Secret a public company is also telling the men who buy shares , we are a company who is doing very very well, look we produce bras with ruby’s. Also notice the pink satin corset of Pamela Anderson enhancing her silicone breasts, men bow before the godess! Before, men were giving diamond rings to their girlfriends, now they might start to give diamond or gold bras.
The Jean Coutu group says that baby boomers will continue to place great emphasis on their health and appearance. While the baby-boomers have aged, they want to feel young and in good shape. If you offer them underwears and foundation who flattered their figure and on top of it are comfortable and feminine, there is an interesting market who is waiting for you. I am wondering when will be a decent lingerie section in the Jean Coutu pharmacy, beside the nursing bras?
Those women also love to be suprised and seduced once in a while and the new research and development trends might give you a competitive advantage on the market if you follow those trends:
• Bright and shiny fabrics
• Fabrics which progressively release scents
• Dynamic molding and shape enhancing fabrics
• Fabrics keeping you warm and cold, as well as anti-bacterial
• Seamless
They are sentitive to :
• Soft fabrics (with microfiber) seamless with lacy designs and tension for the belly and hips should gain more and more popularity with this market
• Pratical fabrics (easy care, non allergenic)
• Attractive fabric (with lace, embroidery, quilted satin)
• Transparent voile (satin crepe, cotton ottoman)
In Canada there is 9.8 millions of persons who approach the age of 50 and because of immigration the Canadian population will grow, in fact the baby boomers and the after boom generation is 56% of the Canadian population and the Canadian apparel industry is a 17 milliard business.
In general the women of 45 to 55 years old, spend more than the rest of the other age segments on her lingerie. The woman berween 20 and 54 spend more on their clothes, but if you count 45 to 65, the figures are changing and the younger market buy more lingerie. For the 45 to 55 segment, the sales should be concentrated in speciality stores, where you can create
an atmosphere with odors and theatrical effects ( she will stay longer and she will also feel she is still feminine. It is not necesseraly a price oriented market, because quality is very much appreciated.
There should also be an option to buy from home, catalog sales are very convenient especially for little towns or for the buzy women, look at the very intelligent and successfull marketing strategy for the Sears catalog sales with POS with the Canadian post offices. ( internet is also important). In France for exemple, women of 25 to 50 buy 65% of the lingerie of the company Charlott who make home presentations!
The big t-shirt area in dying, look at the nightwear sales figures of La Senza foe exemple.
But the manufacturers have a tendency to produce for the beautifull young perfect body, but the baby boomers do not have that perfect body anymore and many womans between 35 and 50 complained that they really have a hard time to find clothes for their silhouette. Following our research the consumers are ready to pay $70.00 for a bra and more for a good quality bra who will last longer.
