Victoria's Secret Takes
   Macy's to Court
Lingerie retailer Victoria’s Secret has filed a lawsuit against Intertex Apparel Ltd and Macy’s Inc for allegedly infringing its Pink brand of sweat pants, T-shirts and pajamas aimed at high school aged girls.
The filing in the US District Court in New York says the Pinkish label and logo sold by New York-based apparel maker and importer Intertex and department store Macy's is too similar to Victoria's Secret's own Pink line.
It wants Macy's and Intertex to stop making and selling the apparel and to destroy Pinkish clothes and promotional materials.

Concerns Over Nanosilver
Scientists are calling for a closer examination of the environmental and health implications of nanoparticle silver, which is used for its antibacterial and odor-fighting properties in a range of products
including clothing.
The researchers from Arizona State University report that ordinary laundering can wash off substantial amounts of the nanosilver particles from socks impregnated with the material.
And they suggest the particles, intended to prevent foot odor, could travel through a wastewater treatment system and enter natural waterways where they might have unwanted effects on aquatic organisms living in the water and possibly humans too.
"The general public needs to be aware that there are unknown risks associated with the products they buy containing nanomaterials," researchers Paul Westerhoff and Troy M. Benn said.
Their findings were detailed at a meeting of the American Chemical Society, and are believed to be the first time that anyone has looked at the release of silver from this type of manufactured clothing product.
Silver has been used historically since ancient roman times, though its nanoparticle form has only recently appeared in consumer products.
Beyond socks, nanosilver appears in certain bandages, athletic wear and cleaning products.
The researchers suggest that improved product labeling could help, with clothing labels carrying a list of "ingredients" like nanosilver.

VF's Q1 Jumps 11%
VF Corporation is optimistic about its prospects for the remainder of the year after the branded apparel company's first quarter profits surged 11% to a record US$149m.
VF maintained its projections of a 9% revenue increase and a 10% rise in earnings per share for 2008 as a whole, with strong revenue growth poised to continue in the second quarter.
First quarter revenues increased 10% to $1.85bn, another record, with earnings per share up 14% to $1.33.
The company's outdoor revenues were up 18% on the quarter, but jeanswear declined 6% thanks to a 13% domestic sales decline amid what VF called the "very challenging retail environment".
Sportswear was down 11%, but the company's international and direct-to-consumer businesses continued to be the key growth drivers.
International revenues were up 21%, while direct retail revenues increased 24%, thanks to double-digit growth for a raft of brands including The North Face, Wrangler and Kipling.
"Our record results for the first quarter demonstrate the strength and diversity of the business platform we have built - in brands, geographies, product categories and channels of distribution," said VF president and CEO Eric Wiseman.
"Our international and retail businesses…are proving to be very beneficial to us as we navigate through what are clearly challenging economic conditions in the US.
The company is also projecting second quarter revenue of growth of 10%, half of it organic, and earnings per share of $0.80, down from $0.93 in the same period last year.

                       Golf Genie
A husband and wife, out enjoying a round of golf, were about to tee off on the third hole, which was lined with beautiful homes. The wife hit her shot and the ball began to slice - her shot was headed directly at a very large plate glass window. Much to her surprise, the ball smashed through the window and shattered it into a million pieces.
They felt compelled to see what damage was done and drove off to see what happened. When they peeked inside the house, they found no one there. The husband called out and no one answered. Upon further investigation, they saw a small gentleman sitting on the couch with a turban on his head.
The wife asked the man, "Do you live here?"
"No, someone just hit a ball through the window, knocked over the vase you see there, freeing me from that little bottle. I am so grateful!" he answered.
The husband asked, "Are you a genie?"
"Oh, why, yes I am. In fact, I am so grateful I will grant you two wishes, and the third I will keep for myself," the man replied.
The husband and wife agreed on two wishes - one was for a scratch handicap for the husband, to which the wife readily agreed. The other was for an income of $1,000,000 per year forever.
The genie nodded his head and said, "Done!"
The genie now said, "For my wish, I would like to have my way with your wife. I have not been with a woman for many years, and after all, I made you a scratch golfer and a millionaire."
The husband and wife agreed.
After the genie and wife were finished, the genie asked the wife, "How long have you been married?"
To which she responded, "Three years."
The genie then asked, "How old is your husband?"
To which she replied, "31 years old."
The genie then asked, "And how long has he believed in this genie crap?"
