Antiwar protesters trash 9/11 memorial
American flags burned and slashed
LA HABRA Ca. -- Antiwar protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial that residents erected on a fence along Whittier Boulevard days after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and have maintained ever since.
However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. John Rees said Monday.
"For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said.
Rees said in order for police to take any action, the owner of the fence would have to file a complaint.
Jeff Collison, owner of The RV Center in La Habra, who has allowed residents to add patriotic symbols to the fence on his property, said he just might do that.
"Their free speech stops at destruction of private property. If they are allowed to come on my property and burn flags, does that mean I can go to City Hall or the police station and light their flags on fire because that is freedom of speech? To me, this is vandalism,' Collison said.
Some residents Monday hung signs criticizing those who destroyed the display.
Tracey Chandler, a Whittier mother of four who has maintained the spontaneous memorial since it was created by other area residents soon after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, said she was shocked by the destruction.
"They trashed 87 flags, ripped 11 memorial tiles made by myself and my children out of the ground and glued the Bob Dylan song to a sign that said, 'America, land of the brave, home of the free,' ' she said.
The Bob Dylan song she referred to is "With God on Our Side,' an antiwar anthem of the 1960s.

The Intimate Apparel Salon Show
With 1,378 verified attendees the March edition surpasses expectations,
Strong increase in international participation with attendees representing
40 states and 24 countries.
Intimate Apparel Salon highlighted 220 of the industry's leading lingerie,
sleepwear, loungewear and accessory lines.
INTIMA America will move to the North Pavilion of the Jacob
Javits Center for the August edition.
New York, NY: Messe Frankfurt and Exposition Associates partnered for the
first time in producing the 13th annual Intimate Apparel Salon held in New
York City from March 2 - 4, 2003.
The producers reported that the event -
one of three to be
produced in New York this year - exceeded expectations.
In spite of the current economic climate, verified attendance at the show exceeded last year's numbers by 10%. A total of 1,378 attendees
representing 40 U.S. states and 24 countries enjoyed the expanded event located on four floors of New York's Millennium Broadway Hotel. The
Intimate Apparel Salon, specializing in fine lingerie resources, elegant
sleepwear and related accessories,
offered a sweeping array of new fashion
presentations with 135 exhibitors from 8 countries showing 220 lines. The
expanded
exhibit space required the addition of another floor at the
Millennium Hotel, providing a more relaxed sale, viewing and networking environment.
In spite of anemic economic conditions, many exhibitors reported strong sales results. Prominent trade buyer delegations from Canada, Brazil,
Lebanon, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom were noted on the show floor. Overall the international participation at this year's
Intimate Apparel Salon increased impressively including buyers, press, VIPs
and exhibitors from a total of 24 countries. This global community of attendees confirmed The Intimate Apparel Salon as the "must see" event
during Market Week in New York.
Messe Frankfurt, Inc. President Roland Bleinroth stated, "Visitors to this
industry event had a great opportunity to experience a wide spectrum of new
and exciting collections. In particular the New Designer Showcase added excitement and complemented the diverse and innovative products displayed
by the major brand exhibitors. This special section gave our first-time exhibitors and upcoming designers a unique venue to
present their latest designs on a national as well as international level. We were excited to
welcome 43 first-time exhibitors to The Intimate Apparel Salon for the March edition."
Carol Bigman, Principal of Exposition
Associates, L.L.C., said,
"Consolidating The Intimate Apparel Salon with the marketing power
and worldwide reach of Messe Frankfurt has created a global and very
cost-effective fashion showcase in New York. The show has stood the
test of time and has grown to be a key venue in the buying cycles of our
market."

The New Burlesque Hits Gotham
The woman onstage is nearly naked. A ravishing redhead with a Rita Hayworth hairdo, she has porcelain-perfect skin and a lithe body. She takes her sweet time putting on sheer black thigh-high stockings—gently caressing one lean leg, then the next. She flicks her toes and stands up as she fastens garters in place, and with a sly smile she slowly pulls on a luscious burgundy-and-black corset over which her glittery pasties twinkle in the spotlight. The strains of Gloria Wood's "Oh Honey" play, and the audience at the midtown Palace of Variety Theatre sits rapt as she laces up the garment. With each tug, the music releases an ecstatic groan and her face contorts with pain and pleasure.
The entertainer, who goes by the name
Ms Tickle (Left), is performing a reverse strip in the time-honored tradition of burlesque, an art form that began in the late 1800s and faded by the mid 20th century. She is part of a burgeoning burlesque revival, which, not surprisingly, began in New York in the early '90s and has now reached critical mass. On any given night, there are countless burlesque shows around town:

Filipino student protesters hold their bras painted with peace signs as a
symbol of their 'protest and refusal to continue to adhere to the dictates
over women's role and place in society', outside the U.S. embassy in
Manila on March 8, 2003. The group was also protesting a U.S.-led plan to
attack Iraq and Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's
military offensive against Muslim rebels in the southern Philippines.

A lady and her baby get on a bus. The bus driver looks at the lady, and then her baby, and then screams, "AHHHH! That's the ugliest child I've ever seen in my life!"
The lady then, totally disgusted, marches up to the back of the bus to sit down.
As she was sitting there absolutely furious, a man asks,
"Are you ok, dear?"
The lady replies, "I'm so angry, that bus driver just insulted me."
The man says, "You go back up there and give that bus driver a piece of your mind, and I'll watch your monkey."

Greetings Folks.
Another question from CT. Have been getting the new catalogs for the
new lines from such companies as Shirley of Hollywood, Escante and a few
others lately. Maybe it's only me but I'm wondering if others have
thought these lines are getting pretty basic and simple and just not as
sexy and risque as they used to be (seems like they could be selling this
stuff at WalMart - LOL). Seeing way too many boring styles this year
and am in need of some exciting new stuff for my retail store. We
currently carry SOH, Escante, Faris, Fantasy, DG, SLD, Top Rock, XTC and
the like. Any suggestions or thoughts about new companies that might
offer something more risque and daring for my customers? Appreciate
any help. Vikki - Just For Fun Lingerie and More Vmggsl@aol.com
