Women on the Web
It comes as no surprise that as shopping online
becomes more common in the US, the numbers for
women using the web for purchasing show a corresponding increase. Nearly 49% of internet users
are female, and they comprise 41% of all internet purchasers.
While women represent 51% of the entire US population, they will not reach parity in their participation
on the internet until year-end 2001 or early 2002. The continued increase of women's presence on the web is
shifting the focus of e-tailers to products that women are more likely to buy, those revolving around the family, home furnishings, health, and pets.

GISELE: I'M FASHIONING NEW CAREER
Brazilian bombshell Gisele Bundchen has strutted down the catwalk for the last time, saying she is fed up with the frenetic
pace of the runways.
"Enough, it's over. It's the end when it comes to catwalks," the sultry supermodel told the Italian
daily Corriere della Sera.
"I'm very tired of going from one stylist to another, running here and there, your cell phone's
always ringing and someone's always fussing over you with a blow dryer."
The 20-year-old beauty - engaged to movie heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio - said this
weekend's Milan fashion show would be her last. "There's more to life than just the catwalk,"
said Bundchen, who reportedly earns $7,000 an hour.

Suppose you gave a BLIZZARD and
nobody came?
Predictions of the New York Blizzard (That never came) buried all hopes of
a successful Market week in New York.
All the weather channels can't put the market back together again, after
predicting up to 2 feet of snow for the New York area, keeping everyone
away and canceling flights & encouraging business closings, but
receiving only 3-6 inches instead.
New York Showrooms and the Millennium Salon show were quiet, as buyers
cancelled their trips to what was supposed to be a SNOW Disaster.

Subject: Food for Thought
If Earth's population was shrunk into a village of just 100 people with all the human ratios existing in
the world still remaining-what would this tiny, diverse village look like?
That's exactly what Phillip M. Harter, a medical doctor at the Stanford University School of Medicine,
attempted to figure out. This is what he found: Go to

Online Consumers in the US
According to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), by Q4 2000, 68 million internet users in the US had
purchased something online -- representing 55% of all internet users. BCG found that the number of online
consumers was up from 53 million in 1999 and that the number of new online shoppers grew as well:
Despite the demise of eToys, BCG reports that 17% of online consumers bought a toy online in 2000 -- up from
only 4% in 1999. BCG found that the most-satisfied online consumer spent an average of $673 online in
2000 while the least satisfied spent $428, on average.
Some of the problems consumers had with retail websites were long upload sessions, difficulty accepting
credit cards and never receiving an item that was paid for:
