Ban Being Ignored
A ban on men working in Behrain lingerie shops and dealing directly with customers in female tailoring shops is being ignored by almost half of the businesses affected.
Forty-seven per cent of all such shops in the country are still not complying with the ban, which came into effect on January 27,
Labor Ministry inspection head Ahmed Al Hayki said.
The ministry has been inspecting shops since the ban came into effect and plans to complete its rounds by the end of the month.
Five inspectors visit 15 shops per day, but there are thought to be about 3,000 tailoring shops in the country.
"Everyday we visit different shops, inspectors give them a letter explaining that they have to employ a woman," said Mr Al
Hayki.
"We found 53% of the shops we visited have employed women and 47% still need to get themselves ready.
"It is difficult for some shops to get women if they have all male staff.
"We issue them a warning and give them between two weeks and a month to correct the situation and most are co-operating."
The penalty for violating the order ranges from BD50 to BD200.
The order, issued in September by Labor Minister Dr Majeed Al Alawi, stipulates that only women can be hired in lingerie shops and those caught violating it will be punished.
In female tailoring shops, a woman must be recruited to deal directly with female customers.
The ministerial decree comes after the Cabinet approved a law on August 12, forcing shop owners to employ women to serve their female clientele.
The law was proposed by parliament's Future Bloc and backed by the country's only female MP Latifa Al
Gaoud.
The aim of the law is to protect women's rights by safeguarding their dignity and preventing any embarrassment in front of men.
"A person taking the measurements must be a woman - Bahraini or expat it's okay," explained Mr Al
Hayki.
"It's only the person dealing with the customer that must be a woman, but those doing the tailoring or the manager can be men.
"The lingerie section must only be handled by women."
The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry requested that tailoring and lingerie shops be given three months to comply with the order.
The Labor Ministry gave them a deadline of January 27.
Senior Sex
The husband leans over and asks his wife, "Do you remember the first time we had sex together over fifty years ago? We went behind this very tavern where you leaned against the back fence and I made love to you . "
"Yes, " she says, "I remember it well."
"OK," he says, "How about taking a stroll around there again and we can do it for old time's sake?"
"Oh Charlie, you old devil, that sounds like a crazy, but good idea!"
A police officer sitting in the next booth heard their conversation and, having a chuckle to himself, he thinks to himself, I've got to see these two old-timers having sex against a fence. I'll just keep and eye on them so there's no trouble. So he follows them.
The elderly couple walk haltingly along, leaning on each other for support aided by walking sticks.
Finally, they get to the back of the tavern and make their way to the fence.
As the old lady against the fence, the old man moves in.
Suddenly they erupt into the most furious sex that the policeman has ever seen.
This goes on for about ten minutes while both are making loud noises and moaning and screaming. Finally, they both collapse, panting on to the ground.
The policeman is amazed. He thinks he has learned something about life and old age that he didn't know.
After about half and hour of lying on the ground recovering, the old couple struggle to their feet.
The policeman, is still watching and thinks to himself, I've got to ask them what their secret is. So, as the couple passes, he says to them, "Excuse me, but that was something else. You must've had a fantastic sex life together. Is there some sort of secret to this?"
Shaking, the old man is barely able to reply, "Fifty years ago that wasn't an electric fence."
