TV Benefits Shapewear
Market
The UK shapewear market is accelerating on the back of endorsements on style makeover show 'Trinny and Susannah
Undress...'
Exhibitors at the Harrogate Lingerie and Swimwear Exhibition said that sales of items like roll-ons and
corsets have benefited from increased television exposure and are now coming back into fashion.
Belgian legwear and shapewear firm Cette is capitalizing on the trend by launching a range endorsed and
attributed to Trinny and Susannah in the UK, which includes Magic Knickers, Shaping Tights and Tummy
Flatteners.
"Our business is growing dramatically and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. The shapewear market is also
growing as a percentage of the overall underwear market," Cette's UK director Nick Jackson said.
The ability of shapewear to "clinch", "lift" and "flatten" has invigorated the category in the US and is
now promising to do the same across the Atlantic, with other companies like Spanx also looking to
capitalize.
It marks a renaissance for the historical costume, which has been chronicled by iconic wearers ranging from
Audrey Hepburn to Bridget Jones.
"This isn't just for ladies with lumps and bumps. It is for the ladies who want to look polished," said X Factor
and GMTV stylist Faye Sawyer.

Mayor Recalled Over Photo
The mayor of an Oregon town who once stripped to her underwear and posed on a fire truck has been stripped of her office.
Arlington voters voted narrowly Monday to recall Carmen Kontur-Gronquist. The tally was 142-139. City officials said the recall is effective the beginning of March.
Kontur-Gronquist said the pictures of her in black bra and panties were taken for use in a contest about fitness, but a relative posted them on MySpace in hopes it would improve the social life of the single mother.
They predated her election, but she said she saw no reason to take them off the popular Web site once elected three years ago. Later, she closed access to them.
Opponents said it wasn't fitting for the mayor to be so depicted. They said they also disagreed with her on issues about water and the local golf course.

Klum Designs Bra
German supermodel Heidi Klum combined her role as Victoria Secret spokesperson and her
jewelry line to create a one-of-a-kind bra for the Oscars.
Klum was approached by the lingerie firm to "bedazzle" a bra, which she wore underneath a designer John Galliano gown. She designed a brooch made from her signature diamond clovers to compliment the middle section of the black lacy bra.
The red Galliano gown she wore to the Oscars will be auctioned off to raise funds and awareness for Diet Coke's heart disease charity.
Blonde in a Boat.
There was a blonde driving down the road one day. She glanced to her right and noticed another blonde sitting in a nearby field, rowing a boat with no water in sight.
The blonde angrily pulled her car over and yelled at the rowing blonde, “What do you think you're doing? It's things like this that give us blondes a bad name. If I could swim, I'd come out there and kick your butt!”

Naked Cowboy Wins
Battle Against M&M
In the battle of Times Square, the Naked Cowboy appears to have won the first round as his animated candy nemesis - dressed in the guitar slinger's trademark white hat, boots and underwear - quietly disappeared from two video billboards.
"They took down the video two days ago. Everyone's telling me it's an open-and-closed case," the Naked Cowboy, whose real name is Robert Burck, said about his $6 million lawsuit against M&M's manufacturer Mars Inc. for using the image without his permission.
The tighty-whitey-clad candy cowboy once filled two towering video billboards for several seconds of a nearly five-minute video loop, but was nowhere to be seen last week.
What did appear was another blue M&M with an embarrassed expression on its face, shooting quizzical looks around Times Square.
"People are driving by screaming out, 'This is the $6 million man! Kudos!' " said Burck, soaking up the extra attention from the media and adoring fans at 45th Street and Broadway. "Everybody likes this story. It's the American dream versus the sold-out America."
"You're suing Mars. Good luck," a passer-by said as he crossed the street.
"M&M can't do you that way," a trash collector called out.
Asked if he'd still do his Naked Cowboy act as a millionaire if he won the suit, Burck said: "Are you kidding me? I'll still do what I do. I have billions to make. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates have nothing on me."
The cowboy's lawsuit includes a request that a federal judge issue an immediate injunction stopping Mars from using his likeness to advertise M&M's.
The cowboy's lawyer, Scott Rothman, noted that Mars removed the copycat candy from its billboard only after the lawsuit was filed. He said Mars had ignored a cease-and-desist letter he sent in January.

Woman Beats Up
Thieves
A South African store manager has been charged with beating up three women she accused of trying to steal panties.
Dolly Mdluli will appear for the second time in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate's Court on three charges of assault.
She has not been asked to plead yet and is out on warning.
Mdluli manages Fashion World at the Twin City shopping centre in Bushbuckridge.
She is accused of beating three women whom she said were trying to steal panties after she found them in the fitting rooms with empty panty boxes on the floor.
The women returned a week later with the police in tow.
The police ordered Mdluli to accompany them to the Bushbuckridge police station where she was charged.
Senior Superintendent Kobus Botha declined to comment on about allegations that police refused to open a theft case against the three women when Mdluli tried to lay counter charges against them.
Botha said he was attending a course in Pretoria and didn't have any information about the case on hand.
