New Bra Sizing System
A new bra sizing system aimed specifically at Chinese women has been developed by researchers in Hong Kong.
Instead of using imperial measurements (inches), the researchers have based their system on metric measurements.
This, explains Dr Winnie Yu, associate professor and program leader of The Ace Style Institute of Intimate Apparel which is part of the Institute of Textiles and Clothing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU), is more accurate.
Speaking at the International Symposium on Intimate Apparel held jointly by HKPolyU and the UK's DeMontfort University last month, she also pointed out that imperial size charts start at 34B and above, and fail to include smaller cup sizes.
Metric sizing, on the other hand, measures the difference between the bust girth and underbust girth to determine the bra cup size from AA to G in increments of 2.5cm.
Breast size and shape is also considered in Dr Yu's new bra sizing system, which uses a 3D scanner to yield 103 measurements.
Besides wire length, wire width and underband length, breast arc, bottom cup height, breast curve and cup depth, are also considered.
Using data collected from 456 Chinese women in three regions of the country, Dr Rong Zheng of the Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology explained that eight factors explain 79% of the total sample variance.
These are overall body build, breast volume, inner breast shape, outer breast shape, overall height proportion, breast orientation, breast gradient, and
lower breast shape.
The first two factors together can account for nearly 45% of the total variance.
Using cluster analysis based on breast depth and width ratio, the new bra sizing system has been developed for cup sizes AA to G.
It covers a high percentage of the population, provides a good fit, uses few sizes and shows a clear structure using a simple formula that is easy to understand.

Trashy Girls' Launch Party
After 35 years of creating hand-made lingerie, clothing, and costumes, Trashy Lingerie is entering the wholesale manufacturing game with Costumes by Trashy Lingerie, a line of high-end, sexy Halloween costumes for women. To mark the line’s unveiling at this year’s Halloween, Costume and Party (HCP) Show in Las Vegas, Trashy Girls, a sister company to Trashy Lingerie and Trashy.com, will co-host a launch party with Bridget Marquardt of E!’s hit show “The Girls Next Door.”
“Bridget has been a loyal customer of the store and has also modeled for our website,” says Mary Loomis-Shrier, President of Trashy Girls. “That along with our longtime relationship with Playboy and our many appearances on the ‘The Girls Next Door’ made joining with Bridget on this party a natural fit.”
To highlight the unveiling of the new line, Trashy Girls, Trashy Lingerie, Trashy.com, and Bridget Marquardt of E!’s “The Girls Next Door” will host a launch party on Sunday, March 16 at The Playboy Club in The Palms. Trashy Girls’ top models Miki Black, Tabitha Taylor, Vilayna, Celeste Trinh, Davida Sullivan, Mary Riley, Carrie Ann Stelzer, Misty Orman, Marie Franz, Jennifer Lyons, Rachel Myers, Meriah Nelson, Tammy Vallejos and Erika Seifred will join Loomis-Shrier, also known as “Trashy Mary,” and the original Trashy Girl, Bridget Silvestri, in the celebration.
“We are very excited about returning to The Palms,” says Loomis-Shrier. “The Palms was the springboard for the Trashy Girls presence in Vegas, so it feels like we have come full circle now that we are showcasing our newest venture there.”
For years, celebrities like Paris and Nicky Hilton, Nicole Kidman, Jenny McCarthy, Renee Zellweger, Reese Witherspoon, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston, and the stars of E!’s top-rated “The Girls Next Door” have publicly donned Trashy Lingerie’s unique costumes, many of which were custom designed and made to the stars’ specifications. With the new wholesale manufacture line, Costumes by Trashy Lingerie, these same designs will now be available to the general public at a fraction of the cost.
Show attendees should present their badges or the party flier for party entry at 10:00 pm. A private champagne pre-party for invited guests and select buyers will be held at 9:00 pm. For more information about the pre-party please stop by the Costumes by Trashy Lingerie booth #1870 on Sunday, March 16 or email randy@trashy.com.
About Trashy Girls
A sister company to Hollywood’s famous Trashy Lingerie and Trashy.com, Trashy Girls is an events and promotions company with a sexy spin. Trashy Girls was formed by Mary Loomis-Shrier who joined the Trashy family in 1996 when she met Randy Shrier of Trashy Lingerie. Mary saw the benefit of bringing beautiful and fun women dressed in sexy lingerie to liven parties and quickly became a staple at the hottest parties in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York. Trashy Girls boasts some of the most sought-after, sexy, beautiful, and fun girls around, each of whom is handpicked based on physical beauty, infectious charm and lively personality. Parties featuring Trashy Girls have drawn thousands including celebrities and sports figures.
About Trashy Lingerie
In 1973, a shoe designer named Mitch Shrier entered the lingerie business with his wife, Tracy, and opened Trashy Lingerie, named after a sling-back shoe called the “Trashy.” The Shriers began the business by hand-dying stockings in bright and exciting colors, offering customers more than the limited choices of black, white or nude. Stockings led to garter belts, which led to underwear and bras. Very quickly, the Shriers had a full line of lingerie. Today, the company offers over 8,000 products including lingerie, costumes, bathing suits, and clothing available in the Los Angeles store, or online at www.trashy.com. Until the company went online in 1998, they were Hollywood’s best kept secret with a celebrity on- and off-screen roster that included Madonna, Dolly Parton, Cher, Kim Basinger, Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Sheryl Crow, Kate Bosworth, Jenny McCarthy, Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and many more. Their designs have been seen in over 500 films, multiple television shows, commercials, concert tours, and hundreds of magazine features. All of the Trashy Lingerie designs are original, handmade and personally customizable when purchased in the store. When purchased online, all designs are made to order. Trashy Lingerie requires a $2 annual membership fee in order to shop in the store. Trashy Lingerie and its sister companies Trashy.com, and Trashy Girls continue to be family owned and operated by Mitch Shrier, Randy Shrier, and Mary Loomis-Shrier respectively.
