Apparel Prices Increase in
January
Retail prices for apparel rose 0.4% in January, the fifth consecutive monthly advance, according to figures
from the Labor Department's Consumer Price Index.
Prior to seasonal adjustment, apparel prices declined 2.1%, the data showed, largely as a result of
post-holiday discounting.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the consumer price index for all products increased 0.4% in January.

The BRAvery Campaign
The BRAvery Campaign which took place in early February was a great success. The goal was to gather at 11am on the weekend before Valentine's
Day and make a bra chain the length of Main Street, beginning outside the ICC building and ending outside Convent Place. An hour and a half later, and after tying together one thousand three hundred and sixty four bras, the chain was extended to the gates at the entrance of town and saw its conclusion at Referendum Gates. The
organizers, Mark Montovio of Mount Productions, and Aimée Montovio, from AiméeJay Intimates, had hoped to get together as many people as possible to raise funds and create awareness in support of Sonia Golt’s message – Early detection equals survival. A total of £1466.94 was raised throughout the campaign.
The event was supported by Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar, Cancer Research and the Gibraltar Women's Association
'Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar was delighted to support an event which raised breast awareness,' said Isobel Ellul-Hammond, Chairman of Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar. 'They are grateful to their members for helping out and to those who distributed the 'Be Breast Aware' postcards from Breast Cancer Care UK. Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar were happy to promote the BRAvery Campaign and for them to use its logo to raise the profile of the event. It was very positive to see different
organizations working together on the day and we are delighted with the response and the awareness created on the day and throughout the many months of preparation.'
Competing with the fierce winds on the day and the bitter cold, the chain grew slowly but efficiently as ladies tied a representative balloon every nine bras to indicate the fact that one in nine women will be diagnosed with the disease.
'We were delighted with the response on the day,' said Mark Montovio. 'The evening before I had taken several phone calls suggesting I postpone because of the weather but I felt that if we took that decision the real purpose would be defeated. The BRAvery Campaign was about BRAVERY in every sense of the word. A diagnosis of cancer can be devastating and the strength, willpower and determination necessary to overcome the disease is not easy to muster. Women diagnosed with breast cancer would also be publicly making a statement. The stigma and shame associated with the illness for many years has no place in our society and important steps would be made to acknowledge this and put the message across that no one need suffer in silence because there were people who could share their stories. So the BRAvery Campaign could not be postponed. Our worst battle on the day was ensuring we didn't get our bras in a twist!'
Campaign instigator Aimée Montovio from AiméeJay Intimates, who also promoted the event at the Paris lingerie show several weeks ago, was very clear about her message. 'It is very important to make ladies aware of their general breast health. Part of this is making sure they wear a correctly fitted bra. Bras are not meant to hurt the breast but support the breast tissue, but very often women put up with the discomfort of wearing a small cup that can cause breast tenderness and even fluid filled cysts in the breasts. An important part of the BRAvery campaign aims to see women ditching those ill-fitting bras in
favor of a professionally fitted bra.'
Now that the event is over, the bras will be washed and then donated to a charity working with disadvantaged women in Morocco. 'The event is still really not over until we see the bras that are still wearable put to good use,' added Mark. 'Together with Mayra Zayas, who was instrumental in ensuring that the BRAvery Campaign became a reality, we will make the arrangements to take the bras over to Tangier.'
Mount Productions and AiméeJay Intimates would like to thank all those people who supported the event and ensured that the message was heard loud and clear.

Little Johnny Stands Up
A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses. She started her class by saying, "Everyone who thinks you're stupid, stand up!"
After a few seconds, Little Johnny stood up. The teacher said, "Do you think you're stupid, Little Johnny?"
"No, ma'am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself!"
