French Fashion Catalogues
Losing Ground
While internet commerce grows, France’s leading mail-order fashion
catalogue firms such as La Redoute, 3 Suisses and Camif have suffered a fall in turnover for the second consecutive year, according to a
report issued by the Institut Français de la Mode.
After a 4% decline in 2005, 2006 brought a further decrease in turnover of 5.1%.
Other segments of the clothing retail market to lose ground in 2006 were the hypermarkets, whose turnover fell by 3.6 %, the fourth
consecutive year of decline. Independent retailers also felt the impact of consolidation in the distribution sector, IFM adds.
In contrast to the previous year, 2006 was a very good year for the discounters' outlets, department stores and to a lesser degree, chain
stores who continue to extend their outlets.

Premiere Vision Preview
New York
Premiere Vision Preview New York formerly known as European Preview
just closed the doors of its 14th edition dedicated to the Spring-Summer 2008
fabric collections. Widely popular among fashion professionals in North
America, it is the most influential show of what is now known in New York as
Fabric Week. In spite of freezing temperatures, a record number of merchandisers, fabric directors, creative teams-- 3,300 or an increase of
14.7% over last season-- made their way to Chelsea to get their very first taste of the Spring-Summer 2008 trends, courtesy of Premiere Vision fashion team, the world reference for fashion trends.
This appetite for early directions and the necessity to bring fashion earlier and earlier to market resulted in sold out trend tasting sessions several weeks before the show's opening. Sabine Le Chatelier, Associate Fashion director for Premiere Vision Paris captivated her audience three time per day with her deconstruction of trends, textures and versatility of fabrics, color combinations and stimulating directions. Attendees got to appreciate a recap of the season's major influences encapsulated in a visually dynamic video. Colors are both bold and subdued. In Womenswear, luminous colors evoke structured silhouettes, other directions play on contrast and evoke fluidity. Menswear embraces light colors for business attire and ventures into bright colors for a more relaxed look while sportswear embraces the entire palette. A large-size color wall provided useful clues in addition to the color card, available for
sale.
The revamped presentation of Premiere Vision Preview by Styles universe (Fancy Seduction, Tailored Distinction, Relaxed Attitude, Active Pulsation) proves to be particularly functional for buyers who can easily navigate the space and zero in on their target mills: It was stormed by fabric directors, designers, chain's creative teams, wholesalers whose name tags read like the who's who of American Fashion: John Varvatos, Kenneth Cole, Bebe, Banana Republic, Anthropology, Club Monaco, J.Crew, Liz Claiborne, Warnaco, VF Corporation, Jones Group.
After sampling the collections, buyers spilled into the exhibitors' booths to start the selection process among the fully-developed fabric collections. The 140 weavers present reflect the best among the world leaders, the mix of expertise and cultural traditions translates into a wealth of creativity, cutting-edge fashion and services designed to meet the demands of U.S. professionals. This is what fashion creators have come to expect of Premiere Vision season after season and they know they are always sure to find the winning combinations for their own collections.
North American professional finalized their choices in Paris at Premiere Vision Pluriel which was open from February 20-23. Premiere Vision Pluriel offers the largest selection of fashion collections in the world under one roof: Premiere Vision with 700 international weavers, Cuir a Paris with its leather collections, accessories and trimmings at Mod'Amont, Indigo with textile designs and Expofil with years and fibers.
The winter pre-collections will be shown in New York on July 18 & 19, 2007 in its current location on West 18th Street.
