Mango Launches Lingerie Line
Capricho
Spanish women’s fashion retailer Mango is set to launch its first lingerie collection
‘Capricho’ worldwide this year.
The Barcelona-based chain will sell Capricho exclusively in its 750 stores located in 73 countries.
The Capricho line is designed for “urban and cosmopolitan” women. Mango said that the new line will strengthen its
diversification plans in women’s apparel. Apart from its own-branded clothing line, Mango sells shoes, bags,
jewelry, perfumes and sunglasses.
Mango, which posted a 5.3% sales jump to €1.05bn last year, is on a global expansion roll. The company plans to enter the
Canadian market this year and the US shortly afterwards.
In 2005, it will open four stores in Toronto and Montreal and set a foot in Colombia,
Panama, Egypt and Finland this year.
Mango competes head-to-head with compatriot Zara and H&M, both of which sell their own lingerie lines.

US Appeals
Textile Safeguard Case
The US government has filed an appeal seeking to overturn the injunction on threat-based special textile China safeguard
petitions issued by the US Court of International Trade (CIT).
The appeal, which was filed in Washington, DC also asks the Court to remand the case to the CIT with instructions to dismiss
the underlying lawsuit filed by the US Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel.
The US government filed separate motions with the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to stay the injunction issued
by the CIT and approve an expedited calendar for consideration of the full appeal.
The long-running legal battle over whether the government has the authority to impose limits on Chinese textile and apparel
imports stems for a lawsuit brought by the US Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel in
December 2004.
The trade group accused the government of violating its own regulations when it agreed to accept safeguard petitions based on
the threat of market disruption.
Police Chase Half Naked Man
A suspect with no pants or underwear on broke his ankles trying to flee from Ripon Police Wednesday.
The 30 year old man was apprehended on the roof of a shed and transported to San Joaquin County Hospital at around 9 p.m. The sergeant said that the Ripon Police Department will be forwarding charges to the District Attorney's Office.
The entire affair began when a Ripon police officer noticed a black Mazda Protege around 8 p.m. that had a defective headlamp and had made an illegal left turn.
The officer tried to stop the Protege as it entered southbound Highway 99, and a pursuit ensued. According to Ripon Police, speeds reached 100 mph. The suspect exited the freeway at Hammet Road in Salida and continued on northbound 99, returning to Ripon.
Eventually, the suspect abandoned the car on the lawn of a church and started to run without any
pants, or as the officer put it "nude from the waist down" -- jumped a fence, and fell off a roof. It was the fall that broke his ankles, he told police later.
He told police he ran from them because he was embarrassed, apparently about his lack of pants.

Limited's Q4 Earnings Up 7%
Retail group Limited Brands Inc on Thursday posted a 7% increase in fourth-quarter earnings, boosted by good post-Christmas
sales.
The company, which operates the Victoria's Secret and Express chains, said profit rose to $415.8 million from $387.6m in the
same period last year.
Same-store sales increased 2% while net sales climbed to $3.328 billion from $3.231bn last year.
Limited Brands expects fourth-quarter same-store sales to dip slightly and predicts an earnings growth of 13-15% for the 2005
financial year.
Frederick's Of Hollywood
Makes A Comeback
Business this Valentine's Day looked very rosy for the lingerie chain, Frederick's of Hollywood.
Not long ago, this institution was in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
But Frederick's is making a profit once again.
For Linda LoRe, the president of Frederick's of Hollywood, Valentine's Day was a day to celebrate the color red not being on the balance sheet.
"It's just a shame to see it not taken and really exploded into the growth that it really could possibly be," LoRe said.
Six years ago, LoRe was brought on as CEO and president to liquidate the legendary Hollywood lingerie chain.
What started out 58 years ago as the purveyor of scandalous outfits for Hollywood starlets, had been pushed up and out by high-end, well-equipped newcomers, such as Victoria's Secret.
But LoRe insisted Frederick's could be saved.
"This brand has a lot of heritage and a tremendous amount of brand appeal," Lore said. "And sexy is always in style and I felt that it was really important to give it a fresh, clean look."
That look was high-end with an edge. LoRe tossed the sleazy for upscale with a new target in mind.
"The young, vibrant, "feel good about herself" customer and we call her the "sexy spender," LoRe said.
Customers responded and with new suburban stores opening, the company's current 150 stores are ready for a remodeling. And that includes the original flagship store on Hollywood Boulevard.
"If we don't move forward and evolve we always end up having to reinvent ourselves and sometimes it takes drastic measures to do so," LoRe said.
Fredericks had a $5 million day last Valentine's Day and they expected to make more this year.
The Adult Video
A blonde decides to do something wild she hasn't done before, so she sets out to rent her first x-rated adult video. She goes to the video store and, after looking around for a while, selects a title that
sounds very stimulating.
She drives home, lights some candles, slips into something comfortable, and puts the tape in the VCR. To her disappointment though, there's nothing but static on the screen, so she calls the video store to
complain.
"I just rented an adult movie from you and there's nothing on the tape, but static."
"Sorry about, that," replied the store clerk. "We've had problems with some of those tapes. Which title did you rent?"
Replies the blonde, "It's called, 'Head Cleaner'."
