OPRAH GOES UNDIE COVER
Guess Oprah Winfrey is trying to put the sizzle back in
her relationship with Stedman Graham! The talk show queen spent an hour in
the lingerie department of Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills picking out sexy
underwear. She asked the sales assistant to show her the HOTTEST and most
revealing pieces they carried.
Smiling Oprah walked out with three shopping bags filled with lace bras,
risqué negligees and even a few thongs!

Vietnam's
Apparel Exporting
In the same week that work began on a new $40
million Vietnamese shoe factory that will create up to 15,000 new jobs
and churn out around 14.4 million pairs of Reebok sports trainers a
year, one of the country's senior officials claimed Vietnam does not
pose a serious threat to the struggling US clothing sector.
Speaking at an industry conference, Deputy
Minister of Trade, Le Van Dao, said: "Apparel production within
the US is limited, so no matter how fast exports from Vietnam increase,
domestic workers in the States will not lose their jobs. In
addition, the market share of our products in the US remains
modest."
However, a bilateral trade agreement with the US began this year
and in its first five months of this year Vietnamese clothing
exports have already beat the total for the whole of 2001.
US state lawmakers continue to see every low cost apparel producer
as a threat to US jobs. In their latest 'victory,' a defense
spending bill passed this week included a deal to cut fabric
benefits to competing Caribbean nations. Critics of the action
suggest it will simply make it more difficult for some companies to
justify sourcing in the region, and that it backtracks on
commitments made by the US to some of the poorest countries in the
region.

Bulging underwear billboard stops traffic
LONDON -- A 60 foot poster of a hot male model with a bulging crotch that caused numerous fender benders has been cleared of being "demeaning to men."
The advertisement for Calvin Klein underwear features Australian model Travis Fimmel. When it first went up over London's Oxford Street, the billboard stopped traffic.
Gays came to stare longingly. Women drooled. And a citizens group complained to the Advertising Standards Authority
.
The complaint said the ad was indecent, sexually suggestive and demeaning to men.
Klein removed the ad while the industry watchdog ASA investigated, but the clothing maker maintained that its billboard was art.
The ASA finally agreed. It ruled the picture was relevant to the product and "was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence."
This week, the giant billboard is going up again. Similar ads have been up in New York and Los Angeles for months.
As for Fimmel, he reportedly thinks the ad flap is silly. When his agency asked him to go to the Calvin Klein casting, he told them: "No way mate, I'm not wearing jocks."
Only a year ago he was reportedly shy about taking off his shirt for a camera shoot. When he was starting out modeling in Australia he was often late for castings because he would have to milk cows at his father's dairy farm.

I wonder what her Nightgowns look like
A
guy walks in and sits down at a bar. The side of his face is bruised and bleeding so the bartender asks, "What in the world happened to you, buddy?"
The guy says "Oh, I got in a fight with my girlfriend and I called her a two-bit whore."
"Yeah?" asks the bartender. "What did she do?"
"She hit me with her bag of quarters!"

"Ask Andy"
Andy Weinstock has been in the fabric and textile business all his life, but professionally since 1969.
"I love what I do, selling fabrics around the globe. I've met lots of interesting, creative, dynamic
folks; some have become dear friends. I love to help new businesses find the things they need to become successful. It works for everyone."

HELLO MR. ANDY,
I AM STARTING A LINGERIE BUSINESS FROM THE GROUND FLOOR. I
WOULD LIKE A FEW POINTERS REGARDING MATERIAL. HOW DO YOU TELL BAD
MATERIAL FROM GOOD MATERIAL? SOME OF THE "SO CALLED" BAD
MATERIALS LOOK FINE TO MY UNTRAINED EYE.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT GRADES???WILL BE GOING TO A FOREIGN COUNTRY FOR SOME
MANUFACTURING AND WOULD LIKE TO BE ASSURED SOMEWHAT OF GOOD MATERIAL.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE,
SONYA
Dear Sonya: be careful in what you
buy. What may look good to your untrained eye, may not be acceptable to
your buyers. Depending on the fabrics you choose, buy some sample
yardage or garments and bring those to your customers. Get their
reactions and orders before placing production orders with your foreign
supplier. Invest your time before you invest your money. Good Luck, Andy
Hi Andy, My name is Jeff Spilfogel, I am the owner of two
trim companies engaged in the manufacture of Molded Cups, Underwires,
Boning & Bias Binding in South Florida.
Would it be possible for you to put us in touch with companies around
the globe that would be interested in either representing our products
or a joint venture. My long term plan would be to replicate our
operation in areas that have a high concentration of Brassiere, Intimate
Apparel, Dress and Women's Swimwear manufacturing.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Jeffrey Spilfogel
Dear Jeffrey: I wish I could be
more optimistic, but after selling the lingerie market for 30 years, I
think it's pretty much gone. The areas overseas that have these
markets now, already have replaced the trim manufactures at those
locations. You will have to reinvent yourself to find new markets
here that can use your products or expertise. Good Luck, Andy
