Charlotte Russe To Sell 44
       Rampage Stores
Growing fashion retailer Charlotte Russe has signed a deal to sell off certain
Rampage store assets to Forever 21 Retail.
Russe, which targets young, value-conscious women, is selling leasehold
interests, store fixtures and equipment for 44 store locations operating under
the Rampage store name.
Of the 44 stores, it is expected that 24 will cease to operate as Rampage
stores in the beginning of July 2006, and the remaining 20 stores would cease to operate as Rampage stores by July 31.
The company intends to convert about 4 out of the 20 Rampage stores not
included into Charlotte Russe locations.
The company will take sales proceeds of about US$14m subject to and contingent upon the satisfaction of certain conditions. The transaction is expected to be reported in the current fourth quarter.
Charlotte Russe had said in April it was looking at alternatives for the
struggling Rampage chain after it racked up losses of $9m in the first half of
the year. The venture had "struggled with brand repositioning", the company
said at the time.

Saks To Reintroduce Petite
       Women's Wear
Retailer Saks Fifth Avenue is to reintroduce its petite women’s wear department just months after closing it down, claiming that sales were disappointing.
The company responded to a number of letters from angry women consumers, with president Andrew Jennings admitting that it had “heard loud and clear the
expression of concern from shoppers”.
Now Saks is to reintroduce petite ranges from labels such as Eileen Fisher, Dana Buchanan and Lafayette 148 from this autumn. Another brand, Ellen Fisher, is set to re-enter the market as a result of Saks’ u-turn.
Saks has said that it wants to increase the range of petite clothing available in its stores, including sportswear and knitwear, moving away from the purely
classic and suited look of the past.
Other retailers, including Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus, have recently
slashed the amount of petite clothing in their stores.

Protestors Must Wear Underwear
A court ruled that animal rights protestors can demonstrate against the Running of the Bulls in San Fermin next week - only if they wear underwear.
Naked protests by the American-based group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have been staged against the famous festival in the town in northwest Spain in previous years.
PETA had asked for permission to stage a naked protest but the Pamplona city council turned it down.
The animal rights group appealed to a higher court.
The Superior Tribunal of Navarre ruled if the protestors staged a naked protest this could upset public order.
