Martha Phillips Axes Final Store After 60 Years
Women's fashion retailer Martha Phillips Inc this week closed its last remaining store after more than 60 years.
The Florida-based firm said the decision to axe the Palm Beach store, where top designers such as Valentino and Bill Blass regularly held fashion shows, followed two years of poor sales.
The retailer operated six stores in Florida and New York during its heyday in the late 80s when annual sales hit $40m but demand for its fashions had been in decline since.

The young playboy took a blind date to an amusement park. They went for a ride on the Ferris wheel. The ride completed and she seemed rather bored.
"What do you wanna do now?" he asked.
"I wanna be weighed," she said. So the young man took her over to the weight guesser. Next they rode the roller coaster. After that, he bought her some popcorn and cotton candy.
"What else she would like to do?" he asked her.
"I wanna be weighed," she said. I really latched onto a square one tonight, thought the young man, and decided to take the girl home. The girl's mother was surprised to see her home so early.
"What's wrong, dear, didn't you have a nice time tonight?"
"Absowutewy wousy," said the girl.

Raiders Steal Designer Clothing Worth £500,000 ($860,000)
Police are hunting raiders who escaped with a huge haul of designer clothing and footwear worth $860,000 from a warehouse near Manchester.
The thieves disabled spy cameras before stealing the 18,000 items which included expensive Levi jeans and Nike trainers from a trailer parked at a Bolton distribution center on Sunday night.
Police say they believe the raiders will attempt to sell the haul at markets and in pubs, while warehouse chiefs have put up a £10,000 ($17,000) reward for information leading to the thieves' arrest

A&F Hit With Racial Discrimination Lawsuit
Casual clothing chain Abercrombie & Fitch has been hit with a lawsuit for racial discrimination amid claims it favours whites over non-whites for its sales floor jobs, The New York Times reported on Tuesday.
The paper said the Ohio-based operator of more than 600 stores is accused of discriminating against Hispanics, Asians and blacks in its recruitment as it seeks to project what the retailer calls the "classic American" look.
Lawyers who filed the suit in Federal District Court in San Francisco are seeking class action status for former and future workers as well as unspecified back wages and punitive damages.

China's Textile Chiefs Issue Tit-For-Tat Threat
                                To U.S.A.

Chinese textile chiefs on Tuesday threatened a series of countermeasures against US clothing companies in a tit-for-tat response to American calls for tough restrictions on Chinese imports.
Sun Huaibin from the China Textile Industry Association called on members to find more buyers from outside the US after the six largest trade associations in US launched a lobbying campaign in a bid to fight imports from China.
"If the US moves to implement restrictions on Chinese exports, we will ask the relevant departments of the Chinese Government for countermeasures to protect Chinese textile manufacturers," he told China Daily.

                    An Act of Charity
One Sunday a pastor asked his congregation to consider giving a little extra in the offering plate. He said that whoever gave the most would be able to pick out three hymns.
After the offering plates were passed, the pastor glanced down and noticed that someone had contributed a $1,000 bill. He was so excited that he immediately shared his joy with his congregation, and said he'd like to personally thank the person who had placed the money in the plate.
A very quiet, elderly, saintly widow shyly raised her hand. The pastor asked her to come to the front. Slowly she made her way to the pastor. He told her how wonderful it was that she gave so much and asked her to pick out three hymns.
Her eyes brightened as she looked over the congregation, pointed to the three handsomest men in the building and said, "I'll take him and him and him."
