New Eco-friendly Nylon Yarns
Nylon yarn maker Nilit has introduced a new eco-friendly yarn made from recycled polymer waste for use in garments such as seamless apparel and legwear.
The yarn is a mix of 90% recycled polymer with 10% deep dye polymer for a rich color.
"The yarns have excellent uniformity and color depth, which makes them well suited for seamless apparel, legwear and for other textile end-uses," says Alon Weiser, Nilit's research development and technical service manager.
He adds the development has enabled Nilit to "significantly shorten" the technology chain, especially in high energy-consuming stages such as evaporation.

 Shirley Of Hollywood's 100% Babe
                      by Luis Paredes
Shirley of Hollywood recently released its newest collection, 100% Babe aimed at a younger, playful audience.
The company says it was designed for the flirty woman in mind, the new collection is a fun mix of sweet, sassy and rock star chic looks with a playful vibe, offered in trendy colors and specifically cut to fit smaller bodies.
100% Babe started with an idea from Dana Scholobohm-Walczuk's daughter, Renie.
"She said that Shirley of Hollywood needed a junior line," noted Dana. "She said that we needed something that appeals to the younger woman. This new collection is so adorable that you won't be able to keep your hands off it."
Short skirts, crop tops, booty shorts, plus bra tops, bikinis and thongs in "2Die4" skull designs, preppy plaids, cool ginghams and sweetheart prints. Colors include electric blues to bold fuchsias plus high-def details like ruffles, buckles, lace bows and short gloves.
The company says that it'll keep 100% Babe differentiated from its other lines by keeping the styling perfect for a younger, hipper demographic seeking the latest fashions and newest fads, and by offering many pieces available in extra small through miss large sizing.

Trashy Lingerie Expands
   Wholesale Production
After a very successful maiden year of wholesale manufacturing sexy, adult Halloween costumes, Trashy Lingerie, 35-year veteran and pioneer in the lingerie and costume industries, is introducing their first wholesale lingerie line. The company’s new line, By Trashy Lingerie, will debut alongside the 2009 Costumes by Trashy Lingerie line on January 24-27 at the 2009 Halloween & Party Expo in Houston.
By Trashy Lingerie as well as Costumes by Trashy Lingerie will be produced in limited quantities and will be focused on smaller, boutique stores that cater to their customers, much like the family-owned Trashy Lingerie store. The wholesale line will consist of some of the most popular designs from collections sold in the West Hollywood location and online at www.Trashy.com. The lingerie will be made of high quality fabrics and materials, and will include structured corsets and details such as stays and underwires.
“Remaining true to our high standards of quality, the By Trashy Lingerie line will be made from the best materials at a reasonable cost,” says Randy Shrier, Vice President of Trashy Lingerie, and President of Trashy.com. “Like the Costumes by Trashy Lingerie line and our original hand-made designs we want our garments perfect before they carry the Trashy name.”
This is one of the reasons Trashy Lingerie will be moving their costume wholesale production from China to the U.S. In 2009, all of Trashy’s wholesale manufacturing will be done in Los Angeles where they can oversee production and quality control.
“Some of the designs are very detailed and complex and we want to make sure they are made correctly,” says Shrier. “Our customers identify Trashy with quality and we want to keep it that way.”
In its 35-year history, 2008 was Trashy Lingerie’s first year in the wholesale market. Their Costumes by Trashy Lingerie line launched the venture and proved to be a great success. Retailers found that their customers came to the stores asking for Trashy by name.
“Our customers responded to the Costumes by Trashy Lingerie costumes better than I’ve ever seen,” remarks Marc Salls of Star Costumes and Theatrical Supplies in Las Vegas, one of Trashy’s retailers. “People even exchanged other costumes they had already purchased for the Trashy line. With Trashy, the quality is exceptional and without compromise. They pride themselves in what they do, and they put their products and customers first.”
Shrier believes the success of the line stems from not only the quality of the products, but also the association of the Trashy name with Hollywood. For years, celebrities like Paris and Nicky Hilton, Nicole Kidman, Jenny McCarthy, Renee Zellweger, Reese Witherspoon, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston, and the ladies from “The Girls Next Door” have publicly donned Trashy Lingerie’s unique costumes and lingerie, many of which were custom designed and made to the stars’ specifications. The wholesale lines make these designs accessible and affordable to women around the world.
Along with the By Trashy Lingerie line of women’s lingerie, Trashy will launch in Houston their new designs for Costumes by Trashy Lingerie, which will consist of approximately 75-100 new styles. To schedule an appointment with Trashy Lingerie at the Halloween & Party Expo in Houston this January, please contact Randy Shrier at 213-741-0905.
About Trashy Lingerie
In 1973, a shoe designer named Mitch Shrier entered the lingerie business with his wife, Tracy, and opened Trashy Lingerie, named after a sling-back shoe called the “Trashy.” The Shriers began the business by hand-dying stockings in bright and exciting colors, offering customers more than the limited choices of black, white or nude. Stockings led to garter belts, which led to underwear and bras. Very quickly, the Shriers had a full line of lingerie. Today, the company offers over 8,000 products including lingerie, costumes, bathing suits, and clothing available in the Los Angeles store, or online at www.trashy.com. Until the company went online in 1998, they were Hollywood’s best kept secret with a celebrity on- and off-screen roster that included Madonna, Dolly Parton, Cher, Kim Basinger, Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Sheryl Crow, Kate Bosworth, Jenny McCarthy, Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and many more. Their designs have been seen in over 500 films, multiple television shows, commercials, concert tours, and hundreds of magazine features. All of the Trashy Lingerie designs are original, handmade and personally customizable when purchased in the store. When purchased online, all designs are made to order. Trashy Lingerie requires a $2 annual membership fee in order to shop in the store. Trashy Lingerie and its sister companies Trashy.com, and Trashy Girls continue to be family owned and operated by Mitch Shrier, Randy Shrier, and Mary Loomis-Shrier respectively.

Stein Mart Cuts Jobs & Salaries
Discount retailer Stein Mart Inc is cutting jobs and reducing salaries in an attempt to mitigate "continued sales declines and the uncertainty of future business trends."
The Jacksonville, Florida based firm, which operates 278 stores, says it will reduce the number of assistant managers in most Stein Mart stores from two to one, resulting in the loss of 178 jobs.
It is also eliminating 31 field and corporate positions, including 12 head office posts.
Management will also take a 5% salary reduction, and the company has suspended its corporate matching contribution to 401(k) and deferred compensation plans.
The retailer hopes its actions will help generate savings of $25m in 2009.
"Coupled with the company's decisions to reduce capital expenditures and conserve cash, these expense reductions will enable us to compete in the current economic environment," said president and chief executive officer David H. Stovall Jr.
The moves were announced as Stein Mart reported an 8.5% drop in December same-store sales. Total sales were down 9.3% to $178m in the month to January 3.

Retailers, Manufacturers and Sales Representatives

I'm going to Rio De Janeiro in Brazil at the end of February for Carnaval.  While there, I hope to meet some Brazilian lingerie manufacturers to buy authentic Brazilian panties for my store and web site, www.ChesterfieldSoftWear.com.  If anyone knows of any companies I should meet, please let me know at info@ChesterfieldSoftWear.com
Also, I am looking to purchase large quantities of panties from Katy Ross and Mile Fashion (both from Brazil), but cannot find contact info for them. Thank you!

Dear McPete:
Given the global financial crisis, many small designers will be opting to cut expenses by passing on expensive marketing venues in favor of using their own showrooms or hotel appointments during market weeks. Many retail shops are sitting on unsold stock from 2008 and are reluctant to spend time and money on travel so they will be looking to the web for on line wholesale collections by their favorite designers. Those who already offer this alternative to attending markets will be ahead of the game for 2009 and those who don't, will soon offer this convenient and cost effective way to work with buyers.
While major lingerie shows do give the opportunity to meet new clients, it's likely that the real orders for early 2009 will be written by stores who already know the quality, fit and design approach of each exhibitor. With this in mind, buyers will be wise to leave some space in their schedules during major shows, to visit smaller designers who will be showing by appointment at nearby hotels.
Let's all move forward with a positive attitude toward the coming year and the belief that beautiful lingerie is an affordable luxury that lifts the spirits in difficult times. After all, we have Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and May Brides ahead of us and to quote my favorite bumper sticker: The Goddess is Alive, and Magic is Afoot
Wishing everyone a Very Happy, Peaceful and Prosperous 2009.
