           Happy birthday?, Internet.
By some accounts, Wednesday marked the 20th anniversary of the online medium. It was on Jan. 1, 1983, that the 400 or so computers hooked to what was then called ARPANET had to switch to a communications protocol called TCP/IP, said Vint Cerf, the protocol's co-inventor.
It was TCP/IP that allowed multiple networks to coexist and permitted applications like the World Wide Web to develop and thrive. In other words, it made the Internet what it is today.
"This is a major milestone," Cerf said. "I consider the January 1983 date to be the real rollout of (the) Internet."
Some, however, consider the Internet's age to be a more mature 33.
On Sept. 2, 1969, two computers at the University of California, Los Angeles, linked by a 15-foot cable, sent data back and forth, showing that the Internet could work.

March Edition of Intimate Apparel Salon
                 Expands to Four Floors

The March Intimate Apparel Salon to feature additional exhibit space at the Millennium Broadway Hotel Designer Showcase to feature new industry talent INTIMA Fashion Live event in Miami Beach postponed New York, NY: The Intimate Apparel Salon, now in partnership with show producer Messe Frankfurt, Inc., announces that due to increased demand from exhibiting companies additional floor space at the Millennium Broadway Hotel has been added for its spring New York show to be held March 2 - 4, 2003.
Roland Bleinroth, President of Messe Frankfurt, Inc., explains that exhibiting in New York’s leading event is paramount to the success of many designers and manufacturers and foremost on their show calendars. “With exhibit space in New York being limited, we are pleased to expand the Intimate Apparel Salon March edition by one more floor and, best of all, offer the same prices as last year. The added space will give our exhibitors the additional room they have been requesting and offer a more open atmosphere for our buyers and visitors to view the exhibitors’ lines.”
Another feature of the March show is the New Designer Showcase. This special show area will give new and upcoming designers a unique venue to present their latest designs on a national, as well as international level and provide them with a platform in New York to showcase their designs.
Messe Frankfurt, Inc. also announces that the INTIMA Fashion Live event scheduled for March 2003 in Miami Beach will be postponed. Bleinroth also said, “Due to the focus being given to our three shows in New York this year we made the decision to direct our attention to these events and take them to a higher level. This will be evident at the expanded shows in March, in the largest August show ever at the North Pavilion at the Jacob Javits Center, and in November when we return to the Millennium Hotel.”
Future intimate apparel fashion events of Messe Frankfurt’s are the INTIMA America / Intimate Apparel Salon from August 3-5, at the North Pavilion at the Jacob Javits Center. The Intimate Apparel Salon will return to the Millennium Broadway hotel from the 2nd through the 4th in November 2003.
Messe Frankfurt is one of the world’s leading show and exposition firms. The company currently organizes over 85 annual shows in 15 countries around the globe.  For more show information, please contact: Messe Frankfurt, Inc. 1600 Parkwood Circle, Suite 515 Atlanta, GA 30339

Versace goes AWOL
For the first time in over a decade, the house of Versace will be absent from the Paris haute catwalks.
The glitz and glam Milanese house is missing from the just published calendar for the season provided by the Chambre Syndicale, French fashion's governing body. Given Donatella's particular talent in attracting celebrities as diverse as Madonna, Chelsea Clinton, Gwyneth Paltrow, the Hilton sisters, Puff Daddy and Robert Altman, the lack of a Versace show will radically reduce the razzmatazz quotient in the Paris season, scheduled from Monday January 20 to Wednesday January 23.
"It's a real pity. The Versace show completed the spectrum. It's especially disappointing because, in my view, Donatella's last two haute couture collections were extremely good," Chambre president Didier Grumbach said.
A spokeswoman for Versace in Paris confirmed that instead of a runway show, the house will present its couture collection in its flagship Paris boutique on the Faubourg St. Honore January 20 between 3pm and 6pm. "I imagine Donatella will be present," said the spokeswoman, who referred all other inquiries to the head office in Milan, which remained closed Friday.
Gianni Vesicle's couture debut in 1990 was a key moment in the revitalization of haute couture, back then more a challenge for moneyed matrons to digest rather than the high-energy media blitz that it is today.
"The people at Versace told me it was a 'strategic reflection,'" Grumbach said of the decision. Nonetheless, the move is sure to provoke speculation that the house is feeling the pinch from the current slump in consumer spending.

                   The Perfect Cover-Up
Apparently, it's a problem among hotel-hopping supermodels: what to put on after you've taken a luxurious bubble bath to properly receive the bellhop with your room service.
"Affordable nightwear is always too short and transparent, shiny and tacky, made from cheap fabric and usually way too cheeky to be greeting anyone other than my boyfriend!" says veteran model Gail Elliot (see Photo left), who hopes to solve the situation with her new line of polite, but no less flattering, nighties.
Little Joe is the name of line she started with her husband, Australian writer Joe Coffey. "I wanted it to be personal, to mean something," she explains of the moniker, adding that for the time being, the company takes the place of an actual, living and breathing little Joe, so to speak.
Made of 100% silk charmeuse, the spring line comes in three lace-trimmed styles in an array of faded, feminine colors. And, for those looking for something slippy and sensuous to wear out at night, Elliot herself has been known to don her designs to parties. At a celebration for shoe guru Cesare Paciotti last month, the British beauty arrived in one of her pucker-pleated gowns in petal pink.
"I made getting dressed tonight very easy on myself," she admitted with a big smile.

Frank Cerciello, Father of Kevin Cerciello of XTC Leather, passed away this week.  Our condolences go out to the Cerciello family.
Frank leaves his wife Mary of 54 years, Sons Kevin & Wayne, and 2 daughters, Christine & Francine.
