Bangladesh Used for Textile Scam
European fraud officers are hoping to recoup around EUR50m (US$71.4m)
in unpaid import duties after clothing companies falsely claimed duty-free Bangladeshi origin on clothing shipped from China.
Three investigations by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) uncovered thousands of forged documents, such as certificates of
origin, customs export documents, delivery receipts and invoices.
These had been presented to customs in EU Member States and to the Bangladesh authorities in an attempt to evade EU import duties.
The garments, mainly jeans and T-shirts, originated in the far-east, mainly China, but showed Bangladesh as the country of origin to take
advantage of its unrestricted and duty-free access to European markets.
Investigations in several Member States and follow-up activities such as court proceedings are still ongoing.

Talks of Iconix to Acquire
Playboy Fade
Reported negotiations for fashion firm Iconix Brand Group to buy
Playboy Enterprises are collapsing, according to a newspaper report. The paper reported that Iconix will now break up talks with Playboy,
which licenses its brand for apparel products.
Meanwhile, Playboy announced last month that it "does not comment on matters of this type".
CURVExpo
Wraps Up a
Successful Year & Gears Up
For an Even Better 2010.
In a year where economic news had many businesses’ proverbial knickers in a twist, the two trade shows for intimate apparel presented by CURVExpo in August 2009 bucked the trend. The two massive shows, one in New York’s Javits Center, the other presented at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, saw increases in attendance of between 10% and 15% over 2008’s numbers. And projected attendance at CURVexpo 2010 in both New York and Las Vegas is repeating the trend, with an average 12% increase.
Organizers of CURVexpo attribute the success of the shows and the continued enthusiasm to several factors.
For one thing, stores that had bought conservatively in February 2009 because of the tight economy are now finding themselves at the holiday shopping season with their inventories low for the 2009/2010 Fall/Winter collections. Since 60% of overall sales in the intimate apparel and sleepwear categories are made in the weeks before Christmas, buyers are learning their lesson and thinking ahead for 2010/2011. They’re planning to shop more optimistically in February 2010, and CURVexpo is the logical place to start.
Another factor is a reduction in business travel by brand managers. With fewer brands hitting the road to showcase their collections, CURVExpo in Las Vegas and New York has become more than ever a Mecca where stores can efficiently sample all of the most cutting edge fashion in intimate apparel, sleepwear and swimwear all in one place. In many cases it may be the only opportunity for some buyers to get a glimpse of certain brands’ upcoming offerings. CurveNV Las Vegas has moved up in influence as the travel budgets of buyers west of the Mississippi have been reduced; the Vegas show offers competitive rates and a fun, convivial atmosphere
250 brands will make the scene in each of the upcoming shows in Las Vegas and New York during each city’s Fashion Week. Las Vegas’ show will feature Project, Magic, MRket, Accessories the Show and ENK Vegas, while the New York event will feature Fashion Coterie, Moda, Accessories the Show, The Train and The Box.
Some of the world’s top names in the lingerie space will be present at both shows: Calvin Klein, Elle Macpherson , Diesel, Chantelle, Wacoal , Le Mystere, Eveden, Marie Jo, Prima Donna, Felina , Simone Perele , Hanro , Grenier , Spanx , Betsey Johnson, Oscar de La Renta , Natori , Cosabella, Hanky Panky , Empreinte and more.
In addition, CurveNV Las Vegas will present two new seminars, one centered around brands offering maternity styles, with their special technical and fashion challenges, and another focusing on sales tactics. Exhibitors and buyers will mix and mingle Las Vegas style at the exclusive CURVenvy The Party on February 15. CurveNV Las Vegas runs from February 15 - 17 2010.
A hot date to mark on fashion calendar in New York is the lingerie fashion show showcasing Fall and Winter 2010 collections, presented at CURVexpo on the 22nd of February. CurveNY New York will run February 21 - 23, once again gracing the Javits Center.
February may be in the dead of winter, but CURVExpo promises to heat up Fashion Week and companies’ bottom lines in 2010.
About Curve: Curvexpo Inc was founded in 2007 to be the premier trade show showcasing intimate apparel, swimwear and accessories as forces in fashion and the fashion industry. Now in its third year, it has become the largest and only event of its kind in North America

Agent Provocateur Reports Loss
