Woolworths Closes All Stores
The administrators of UK retail chain Woolworths are to
close all 807 of its stores by January 5, with the loss of 27,000 jobs, failing a last minute bid for the
business.
The store closures will take place in four stages beginning on December 27, said Neville Kahn, joint
administrator at financial adviser Deloitte.
Administrators have put in place a support mechanism and fast-track redundancy process, assisted by the UK
government.
More than 300 Woolworths stores are under offer from food, clothing and value retailers including
Tesco, which could help to save some jobs.
A spokesperson for Tesco said: "We did pick up a handful of Woolworths store months and months ago, but
in terms of other stores we would hope to pick up we would never comment on future plans."
A spokesperson for another UK clothing retailer, Marks and Spencer, said the retailer had "no plans to
purchase any stores at the moment."
Kahn said that discussions are also continuing to sell different parts of the business, including the
trademarks for Woolworths, Ladybird children's wear and Chad Valley Toys.
Woolworths went into administration on November 27, after running up debts estimated at GBP385m (US$594m).
Interest from potential buyers from Asia, Africa and the Americas for the company has failed to bear any
fruit in recent weeks though, Kahn confirmed.
Meanwhile, Woolworths has started closing down sales with 40m items discounted by 20-60%.

Lugez Debuts the Iceman
by Luis Paredes
The guys at Lugez promise that the "Iceman" you order for your next bachelorette party will stay firm for at least an hour. You can even put a colored LED light under his bum for extra effect - he won't mind.
It helps that the "Iceman" is an affordable ice luge penis mold developed by Greg Albright of Lugez, a California-based company that made it's industry debut at the International Lingerie Show in Las Vegas last month.
"We had a great response at the ILS show," said Albright. "We got a lot of orders and a lot of people excited about our product."
Measuring 12 x 12 x 8 inches (able to fit in a standard freezer), the Iceman has the added function of not only making the prudish of your friends blush but serves your choice of beverage - about 1.5 gallons of it. Although its made for one time use, Albright noted that it's much more affordable than paying $300 - $500 for a sculpted luge.
The company website notes that it's simple to set up and takes about 48 hours for the mold to freeze and once it has hardened, the customer simply cuts it out and places it on a serving tray and fills it with their drink of choice.
Where's the straw? Do you really need to ask?
Albright noted that the company is in the works designing the "Ice Rack" and other designs. More information on the company's website at

Pink Bras for Christmas
Fourteen householders in Port Carlisle, a village in Cumbria, received an extra present on Christmas Day - pink bras, which were posted through their letter boxes.
Dougie Hill, of the Hope and Anchor pub in Port Carlisle, said the lingerie had "completely surprised" villagers.
He has now put the bra he received in pride of place on his bar in the hope someone will come and claim it.
Hill said: “It is the talk of the pub.
“No one has any idea where they came from, it's hilarious.”
"It would have been nice if it had come with a lady attached to it obviously, but that didn't happen," Mr Hill said.
"It's not in the wife's size so I couldn't even give it to her as a Christmas present.
"I'm stuck with it - so if there is an owner out there they are more than welcome to come and collect."

Shadowline to Close
Shadowline Inc., a Morganton lingerie manufacturing company that sells its products in 61 countries, will close next year.
Company president Sherrod Salsbury, whose father started Shadowline in 1946, said he informed his 85 employees of the decision Friday.
Salsbury said he doesn't know in which quarter the plant will close. He said foreign competition and the bad economy is forcing him to abandon his family business.
