Cortefiel Rejects CIE Claims
Spanish fashion group Cortefiel has rejected claims by textiles
industry watchdog Consejo Intertextil Espanol (CIE) that its "special offer" sale campaigns are illegal.
CIE sources were quoted as saying that the offers "border on illegality" and "prostitute" the
country's sales campaigns, hurting smaller retailers.
They claim the offers allow Cortefiel to fast-track the bona-fide post-Christmas and summer sale seasons, which start on January 7, and July 1.
However, a Cortefiel spokeswoman said the actions "are not illegal".
"When you start a sales campaign you discount most items in the store but with special offers only a limited number of products are put on
sale," the spokeswoman said.
She added that special offer discounts are also smaller than those of the official sales periods.
That may be so but the campaigns have earned Cortefiel a string of fines since 1996.
In 2004, the Catalunya (Barcelona) regional government fined the company EUR90,000 (US$118,466) for holding sales campaigns before the
regular sales periods. That followed a EUR60,000 infraction two years
before.
The Balearic Islands also fined the retailer EUR75,000 in 2005.
The Cortefiel spokeswoman would not confirm the fines.
Cortefiel owns the eponymous Cortefiel banner, one of Spainīs biggest specialty apparel chains, and the fast-growing Springfield and Womenīs Secret chains.

Lingerie & PJs Help to
Raise Money
Two Warrnambool Bunnings managers lived up to their promises by swapping their workgear for slinky nightwear - all for a worthy cause.
Complex manager Paul Hughes and fit-out manager David Leatch promised their staff if enough funds were raised for the Royal Children's Hospital Children's Cancer Centre, they would work in nighties for a day.
About 50 team members jumped at the chance to raise funds with the added incentive of having a laugh at their bosses' expense.
The staff sold raffle tickets and donated money to the appeal raising about $500 during four days.
The team also wore their comfy sleepwear cutting the managers some slack to mark the end of the fund-raising venture.
``We thought it would be a pretty good effort if the staff reached $300 and by mid-week the target had been surpassed,'' Mr Leatch said.
The managers had to swallow their pride and take a stroll into the Target store to search for some nightwear.
``We had most of the Target staff and customers having a laugh as we paraded out of the
change rooms in a range of nighties.
``I wanted something in black because it was slimming so we both ended up with the same outfit,'' Mr Hughes laughed.
Melbourne's RCH Children's Cancer Centre treats the largest number of children with cancer in Australia and about 160 newly diagnosed cancer patients under the age of 18 each year.
Another 1000 children receive ongoing treatment and/or active patient follow-up at the centre, but about 50 children in Victoria continue to die each year of incurable cancers.

Eurovet Eyes Chinese
Lingerie Market
Eurovet, the France-based leading lingerie trade show organizer in the world, will launch two bodyfashion shows in China, with one in Hong Kong in April and another in Shanghai in October.
"Asia and China represents a huge and growing consumption market, including lingerie and beachwear," said Eurovet CEO Marie Laure Bellon-Homps.
The region has witnessed 15% average growth in lingerie consumption on an annual basis, while the turnover of lingerie market in China reached two billion euros in 2004, according to Eurovet.
"Though lingerie sales in China are still lower than in Europe and the U.S., the market is growing fast," she said.
Eurovet held a bodyfashion show in Shanghai in October, attracting more than 4,000 well-targeted visitors from all around the world, with 54% coming for fabrics sourcing, 34% finding and distributing brands and 12 percent finding new production partners,
"The Shanghai Mode Lingerie is a real success," she said, noting that 60% of the exhibitors and 90 percent of the visitors to the Shanghai show had expressed strong interest to participating in the Hong Kong show in April.
The Hong Kong Mode Lingerie will be an international specialized platform, targeting manufacturers, retailer, distributors and investors from Asia and other parts of the world, she said.
The Hong Kong show will focus on the winter collections while the Shanghai one will unveil the summer collections, she said.

Five Star Vintage Dumps
Federline
Kevin Federline, Britney Spears' soon to be ex-husband, has reportedly been dumped by clothing line Five Star Vintage along with the
executive who hired him.
Federline was taken on to be the face of the label in June, while he was still with Spears, but has not had his contract renewed.
Five Star Vintage, which is owned by San Francisco's Blue Marlin apparel firm, had previously extended the contract for the holiday
2006 season.

Jovovich to Design Dresses
for Mango
Spanish womenīs fashion chain Mango has Milla Jovovich designing a limited edition apparel collection for the spring/summer season.
The model and actress, who stars in adverts for the retailer's 2006 autumn/winter collection, will design the line with partner Carmen
Hawk.
The Jovovich-Hawk collection will be available in 400 Mango shops worldwide starting in April 2007.
The line features ten dresses for a "dynamic and cosmopolitan" woman.
It is inspired by the 1960s and "has a romantic air" Mango said in a statement.
The action comes after Mango hired Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad to design a special Middle East collection this summer.
The move reflects the growing importance that designer collections have for retailers and followed similar initiatives by rival H&M.

Hidden Camera in Bathroom/Dressing Room
John Mcmanus, the owner of the 'Sexy Lady', a lingerie shop in Crestview, Florida says he would love to tell his story and clear his name, but he can't, until his attorney gives him the OK.
In the meantime, deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department say the story is clear.
They say Mcmanus had a hidden camera inside the bathroom/dressing room at the 'Sexy Lady', spying on females as they tried on lingerie.
Investigators say a camera lens was inside a radio clock and wires were going from the clock to the wall. They also say the radio clock was sitting on a shelf, on some cards to get a certain angle.
According to the arrest report, Mcmanus told deputies, he bought the clock, second hand, and did not know a camera was inside it.
Investigators say they also found a VCR-recorder, a small TV, and a power supply that was marked for a receiver behind the counter.
Deputies have not found any tapes. So they say they have no way of knowing how many victims there might be.
A Little Flab
One morning while making breakfast, a man walked up to his wife,
pinched her on the butt and said...
"If you firmed this up, we could get rid of your control top pantyhose."
While this was on the edge of intolerable, she kept silent.
The next morning, the man woke his wife with a pinch on each of her breasts and said....
"You know, if you firmed these up, we could get rid of your bra."
This was beyond a silent response...
So she rolled over and grabbed him...
With a death grip in place, she said... "You know, if you firmed this up, we could get rid of the gardener, the postman, the pool man and
your brother!"
