                                 HARRT
The American Apparel & Footwear Association has set up a task force manned by its members to help the reconstruction efforts of the Haitian clothing industry.
The aim is to provide leadership and insight as relief operations continue and reconstruction planning begins in earthquake-stricken Haiti.
"Because apparel production is one of Haiti's most prominent industries, explains AAFA president and CEO Kevin M Burke, "these sectors will play a critical role in Haiti's recovery."
"The US apparel industry has a long partnership with Haiti and is ready to be a cornerstone of Haiti reconstruction," adds Rick Helfenbein, president of TellaS Ltd, the USA division of Luen Thai, and co-chairman of the Haiti-AAFA Recovery and Reconstruction Team (HARRT) steering committee.
In the coming weeks, HARRT will seek out apparel and footwear producers who are active in Haiti and learn more about their specific and evolving needs.
It also intends to help the Haitian apparel and footwear industry address infrastructure issues, factory capacity levels, workforce training, responsible production, and sourcing patterns.
Task force members also plan to educate US government officials about industry needs as it works to assist Haiti through reconstruction.
Details of the task force came as legislation was proposed in the US to try to rebuild Haiti's apparel and footwear industry after it was decimated by a magnitude 7 earthquake that hit the country last month.

11/13
      Saudi Women Boycott
"Manned" Lingerie Stores
The second phase of a yearlong campaign to get rid of men who work as sales clerks in lingerie shops has commenced with activists calling for a two-week boycott of such shops starting on Saturday.
The move comes four years after the Labor Ministry had announced an initiative to employ women in these shops. Since the announcement was made in 2005, nothing has been done, boycott organizers have said. For their part, lingerie shop owners have viewed the ministry’s decision as optional and the ministry has denied the initiative was canceled or postponed.
“If you really care about women’s rights and you are in Saudi Arabia, then starting from the 13th of February 2010 and for two weeks boycott all lingerie shops that employ men,” the campaigners said in a statement published in a local newspaper, adding that they hopes to see at least 40,000 women participating in the boycott. “The contradiction is in the fact that we are supposedly the most conservative nation in the world and yet women here divulge their bra and undie sizes and colors to strange men on a regular basis.”
Eman Al Nafjan, who manages “Saudiwoman’s Weblog,” wrote in a recent journal entry that “common decency and personal comfort dictate” that women would rather buy their underwear from other women.
Islamic scholars like Ghazi Al-Shammari have endorsed the boycott. “I am sure that most women do not feel comfortable purchasing their lingerie from shops that are run by men,” the scholar said, urging businessmen to follow the direction of the Labor Ministry and replace male sales clerks with women.
The campaign to get the Labor Ministry’s decision implemented was officially started in February 2009 by Reem Asaad, a Saudi lecturer at a college in Jeddah. Asaad and others sent letters to local lingerie shops demanding they institute the Labor Ministry’s decision. “I am happy that some lingerie shops have already employed women. They include Nawomy and Change. We should support these shops by purchasing things from them,” she wrote on an online Arabic forum.
The previous campaign received the support of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which provided the organizers with lists of the heads of the Kingdom’s top five lingerie stores. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has said that it was not against the idea of saleswomen in lingerie shops as long as they work in women-only malls.
Al-Madinah reported that the market for women’s intimate apparel represents 17 percent of the SR9 billion ($2.3 billion) Saudi women’s clothing market.

2010 Halloween & Party Expo
                   a Success

Industry Celebration given “shot” in the arm by
           Eldorado and Playboy Libido Shots
The 2010 Halloween & Party Expo – held earlier this year from January 23-26 in Houston, Texas - connects a global audience of buyers and sellers of Halloween and Party products and accessories. Thousands of manufacturers, distributors, and retailers attended the Expo to find out all about the latest industry products and services and to meet and greet others in the industry.
“Our primary goal is to provide a comprehensive market place for our buyer attendees,” says Jonathan Erwin, one of the Halloween & Party Expo’s organizers. “Our attendees are ready for business, and we want to give them every possible opportunity to see the best products that our industry has to offer.”
Endorsed by Party Club of America, Paper First Affiliates, National Costumers Association, and the Halloween Industry Association, the Halloween & Party Expo is hosted by Party and Paper magazine and sponsored by various exhibitors including award-winning distributor Eldorado who debuted the new line of Night to Remember products by sassigirl, gave presentations on their new PartyStoreExtender.com program, and much more.
Among the highlights of the Halloween & Party Expo was the opening night Industry Celebration Gala, a fun and exciting - and sold out - party held at the world-famous House of Blues restaurant.
“The Gala was a terrific event,” says Eldorado founder and CEO Larry Garland. “It was well-attended and the positive atmosphere of the opening night party was a good sign that the 2010 Halloween & Party Expo was going to be the best ever. And it was.”
Attendees of the Gala were especially thrilled with the free Playboy Enhancer Libido shooters given out by Eldorado. The 2 oz. Playboy Enhancer Libido Shot is a natural cocktail dietary supplement that enhances male and female sensual experiences and tastes delicious.

New Toy
Bill had won a toy at a raffle. He called his kids together to ask which one should have the present.
"Who is the most obedient?" he asked. "Who never talks back to mother? Who does everything she says?"
Five small voices answered in unison:
"Okay, Dad, you get the toy."
