Upcoming Midwest Fashion
                 Expo

Look out N.Y., here comes the Midwest Fashion Expo. A career in the fashion, modeling, or other related industries is no further than coming to Dearborn.
No longer will people from the Midwest United States have to travel to places like New York, Florida, or California to experience sensational fashion shows. Come see new fashions, meet aspiring models and experienced talent. Expo creator James Bryant brings out the best in the Midwest Fashion and Modeling Expo industry. Come experience the Midwest's finest event. View a light and lively display of new fashions at the 2006 Spring Expo. The Midwest Fashion Expo opens with an angelical array of fashions and models. On Saturday March 4th, prominent young fashion designers, models, and photographers will be present in Dearborn Michigan. Parts of the 2006 Midwest Fashion Expo,  produced by JMB Promotions, MuseCube.com  and other local establishments will be holding a runway presentation from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dearborn Civic Center. (Located at 15801 Michigan Ave., Dearborn Michigan)
"It is in my plans to rock the house" calls out one of this year's headliners, Tonia from Ira Collections, a new and upcoming fashion designer in the Metro Detroit area. "You will not be disappointed!" she continues as she consults with her makeup artist and photographer about the Expo.
"The Midwest has been a long time producer of many artists, designers, and models," states James Bryant, founder of the Midwest Fashion Expo. "The show is produced to give people in the industry a chance to be seen, gain experience and exposure. Unlike those on-line portfolios, this event gives you a chance to
meet with others face-to-face; interview photographs, models, and
scope-out new talent all in one place. Registered with the State of
Michigan as a career fair, it is our mission to help people to
realize their goals and help them investigate the highly competitive but lucrative career such as modeling."
Since its beginning in 1999, we have seen a wide array of models
from the full-figured to the petite, all races: African American,
Asian, to Caucasian and Hispanic. Many business people and
photographers have traveled through our doors, all looking to gain a little insight into the exciting world of modeling and photography.

        Gap to Open Two
New Banana Republic
      Stores in Japan
Apparel giant Gap said it would open two new stores under the Banana Republic name in Japan this spring.
The new locations, which will be opened in Tokyo and Kobe in March, will bring Banana Republic’s Japanese store chain to six locations.
The two locations are within two of the most prominent shopping areas in the respective cities: Tamagawa Takashimaya SC, which is scheduled to open 8 March in Tokyo, and The Forty Fifth, which is scheduled to open 11 March in Kobe.
Banana Republic opened four store locations in Japan in September 2005, its first store locations outside North America. Banana Republic currently operates in Tokyo at Printemps Ginza, Roppongi Hills and Nihonbashi Credo; and in Yokohama at Yokohama Landmark.
Kentaro Odagiri, Banana Republic Japan president and managing director, said: "Tamagawa Takashimaya is located in one of the most prestigious residential neighborhoods in Tokyo and Kobe's Kyoryuchi district is historically known as a destination for imported fashion and culture.

A Blonde Moment
One winter morning a couple was listening to the radio over breakfast.
They hear the announcer say, "We are going to have 8 to 10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowplows can get through." Norman's wife goes out and moves her car.
A week later while they are eating breakfast again, the radio announcer says, "We are expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street, so the snowplows can get through." Norman's wife goes out and moves her car again.
The next week they are again having breakfast, when the radio announcer says, "We are expecting 12 to 14 inches of snow today You must park ..." Then the power goes out.
Norman's wife is very upset, and with a worried look on her face she says, "Honey, I don't know what to do. Which side of the street do I need to park on so the snowplows can get through?"
With the love and understanding in his voice that all men who are
married to blondes exhibit, Norman says ...
"Why don't you just leave it in the garage this time?"

Germantown's New Lingerie
     Store Protested
A new store is creating a big stir in one local suburb with its selling of women's lingerie and sex paraphernalia.
The new store, After Hours Lingerie and Gifts, is only two weeks old, but a growing crowd of protesters gathered at the doors in protest.
"The moral values to have something like this in our residential neighborhood is not right," said protester Dave Skrober.
"It's under the guise of a conventional lingerie shop," said another protester, Henry Koch. "Well, it's not conventional lingerie -- it's made for maximum exposure of a woman's body. I think it's degrading to women."
Inside, meanwhile, the owner said the protesters have it all wrong.
"This is not a stereotypical dirty bookstore," said owner Mark Wilson. "It's predominantly a lingerie store, and we do sell some adult items."
"Certainly, the store is not for everybody, and I realize that, and not everybody has the same tastes," Wilson said. "I can understand that people don't like it, and they have the option not to come in."
Wilson said the lingerie apparel makes up the majority of his products. He also said about 8% of his stock is legally defined as sexually explicit.
Still, the protesters believe that is too much.
"There's a number of other items in there like videotapes displaying sexual activity and other devices used for sexual pleasure, and it just has no place here in Germantown," said one protester.
Wilson stated that he's been pretty busy. He also explained Valentine's Day is like Christmas for his type of store.

Sara Lee Spins Off Branded
                  Apparel
Sara Lee Corp has posted a 9.7% increase in second quarter operating income at its Branded Apparel business – and says it expects to spin off the division this summer into a separate, publicly traded company called Hanesbrands Inc.
Operating profit at the Winston-Salem-based apparel division was $169m, up from $154m for the second quarter of fiscal 2005, boosted by improved inventory management and favorable cotton costs.
However, quarterly revenues fell by 4.8%, from $1.24bn to $1.18bn, driven by lower sales volume, weak hosiery sales, and an exit from certain low-margin sleepwear and fleece businesses.
Sales volumes were strong for Hanes men's and boy's underwear and C9 by Champion athletic wear the company said.
Year-to-date Branded Apparel sales are $2.32bn, down 6% from $2.46bn in the prior year's first half. Operating segment income for the first six months of fiscal 2006 was $291m, a decrease of 3% compared to $300m a year ago.
Chicago-based consumer product conglomerate Sara Lee Corp first revealed its plans to spin off its Branded Apparel, Americas/Asia business in February 2005.
Branded Apparel markets a portfolio of brands in the outerwear, innerwear and hosiery categories, including Hanes, Hanes Her Way, L'eggs, Playtex, and Wonderbra.

 Caprice's Lingerie Range
Lingerie supermodel Caprice has launched her range of sexy underwear at The Pavilion shopping center in Durban.
The model denied having a relationship with South African-born cricketer Kevin Pieterse of Pietermaritzburg, who starred for England in their Ashes triumph against Australia in 2005.
However, her spokesperson Beth Wond says the model, who has been linked to Rod Stewart, Prince Andrew and Prince Albert of Monaco, had attended an awards function with Pietersen.
