LL Bean Mistake Upsets
Customers
An unfortunate mix-up has left LL Bean customers upset after they called a number in its spring fly-fishing catalogue and found themselves connected with an explicit phone sex line.
The catalogue giant, which sells outdoor apparel and gear, casual clothing, footwear, home furnishings and luggage, is now sending postcards and e-mails to customers who received the catalogues,
apologizing for any embarrassment.

Boscov's Acquires Federated's
Stores
The department store group Boscov's is to acquire ten mall department store locations from Federated Department Stores. All 10 are duplicate locations Federated previously announced for divestiture as a result of its acquisition of The May Department Stores Company.
A purchase price was not disclosed. But, Federated said proceeds from this transaction will be included in the US$400m to $500m of after-tax proceeds expected from the sale of duplicate stores nationwide.
The locations are included in the sale agreement, with a transaction expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2006.
Six locations in Pennsylvania: Kaufmann's Monroeville Mall, Kaufmann's South Hills Village, Strawbridge's Lehigh Valley Mall, Strawbridge's Montgomery Mall, Strawbridge's Oxford Valley Mall, Strawbridge's Willow Grove Park.
Three in Maryland: Macy's Marley Station, Macy's Owings Mills, Macy's White Marsh.
One in New Jersey - Strawbridge's Deptford Mall.
Clearance sales at these locations began on at the end of January 2006. Macy's will continue to serve customers in these malls, including in locations where May Company nameplates will be converted to Macy's.

The Miami International
Lingerie Show
While we're still thinking of new ideas to increase attendance in Miami, most vendors agreed the Miami Lingerie Show was better than anticipated. The first day of the show was very good, with many buyers writing nice orders, and some vendors still selling after the show officially ended at 5:30 PM.
The vast majority of vendors were looking forward to continuing the Miami show next year, although we may be looking for another venue,
as the area will be bombarded with Super Bowl fans and media in January of 2007.
Entrenue, Inc. reported great sales (and were especially happy as their Seattle Seahawks won their playoff game), and others such as Coquette International, Dreamgirl International, Shirley of Hollywood, Sharron Leslie Designs, Cheryl Creations & Leg Avenue had steady appointments.
All were definitely looking forward to the International Lingerie Show and Lingerie Classique just around the corner at the RIO Hotel in Las Vegas, April 3rd - 5th. We're expecting a record turn out of both vendors AND buyers, as advance registrations are coming in daily!

Lingerie Americas Show
Upcoming in NY
Lingerie Americas, the backbone of the New York market week whose reputation extends internationally, returns this coming season to the Altman Building and Metropolitan Pavilion on 18th Street in Manhattan. The collections to discover will be Fall/Winter 2006-2007 with lots of sleepwear and loungewear.
Exceptionally this year, the show will open its doors on Saturday, February 25 and continue thru Monday, February 27, 2006.
The new dates are based on the market week calendar, earlier this year, determined every year by The Intimate Apparel Council (IAC), the industry’s main body. Moreover, the industry changing landscape as observed in retailers’ buying patterns as well as brands’ production schedule pushed for earlier collection availability. These more profound trends motivated the IAC’s decision to open the Fall/Winter market week at the end of February.
Other calendar constraints particular to the exhibit space lead Lingerie Americas to open the show, exceptionally on Saturday, February 25. This date also marks the first day of market week.
The new dates/new days have been incorporated in the communication plan destined for retailers who will be able to enjoy three full days of work as usual. Opening hours remain 9:00 am thru 6:00 pm every day for the entire duration of the show.
Lingerie Americas’ seductiveness continues to attract an increasing number of national and international brands that commit earlier every season. The high degree of professionalism offered by Lingerie Americas promotes the business brands seek in a very competitive environment. Out of a total of 250 brands present in the three main exhibit halls - 41 brands will show for the first time in February (including in The Winter Garden). The noted newcomers who have opted for Lingerie Americas as the most
efficient showcase to make their entry into the US market are:
- Fayreform, a plus-size line of bras made by Bendon of New Zealand, the Elle Mcpherson licensee,
- La Perla, the exclusive Italian label will introduce two brands: Malizia, a foundation line of impeccable European craftsmanship and Joelle, refined cotton sleepwear,
- Vera Wang, renowned for high-end bridal fashion is introducing its line of couture lingerie made by its licensee Komar,
- Lacle, a Japanese line produced with a patented laser technology marks its entry in the US with a long-term strategy,
- Bristols 6, a new American brand of sexy lingerie for the youth market,
- Dream Lover, another American line of cotton robes in bright colors,
- Laurence Tavernier, a French sleepwear brand, already in high-end department stores across the US is seeking the quality retailers Lingerie Americas attracts,
- Lejaby, a foundation brand in Warnaco’s portfolio with a long-standing reputation will showcase its European line especially designed to appeal to discriminating retailers,
- Lormar, the largest foundation company in Italy is launching its brand in North America and setting up nationwide distribution,
- Moving Comfort, a line of bras and yoga wear designed for ultimate comfort will add to Lingerie Americas’ diverse offering in this special category.
All these brands, each with their own strategy, enrich the shopping experience provided by Lingerie Americas and stimulate the entire professional community.
A large number of brands have been showing steadily with Lingerie Americas since its arrival in the market in 2002. The leading brands in each of the main categories have come to rely on Lingerie Americas to support their sales teams’ efforts.
• In the foundations category expect to see among others: Chantelle, Simone Pérèle,
Huit, Betsey Johnson, Princesse tam.tam, Natori, Panache, PrimaDonna
• In hosiery: Wolford, Levante, Spanx, Stockingirl …
• In daywear: On Gossamer, Only Hearts, Cosabella, Eberjey, Arianne…
Understandably, loungewear and sleepwear represent a large contingent of brands, 160 in total: Stan Herman, J&C Jaycris, Boerner, Féraud, Nocturne, Pluto, Flora Nikrooz…
Lingerie Americas’ seductiveness shows in the continued support it receives from Invista, a major provider of high-performance fibers to the industry. Represented by its leading brands, Lycra® and Tactel®, Invista reinforces its exposure and connection with the brands as well as with the retailers.
Lingerie Americas’ seductiveness has captured the attention of many Canadian brands over the past sessions. The successful track record of these brands and in particular those representing Quebec’s brands at Lingerie Americas has been noticed by Wear?Canada! and Montréal Collections. Following the example of the French brands last year, Wear?Canada! has teamed up this season with Lingerie Americas to turn the light on Canadian brands’ strengths and assets: cutting-edge technology, manufacturing expertise coupled with creativity and reactivity make Canadian brands ideal partners. This group of 16 brands spans all intimate apparel categories. Arianne, Body Wrap, Christine Vancouver, Diamond Tea, Donna Lingerie, Elita/Hanna Lingerie, Frou-Frou Designs, Grenier, Kayanna, Kenan, Lebkoff, Montelle Intimates, Patricia Fieldwalker, Shan, Vestiny, Volage.
Lingerie Americas’ seductiveness brings together a special series of professional seminars providing retailers and buyers with the insider knowledge needed for business growth.
On Sunday, February 26, at 3:30pm on the lower level of the Altman Building, Dan Sackrowitz, VP Marketing and Business Development for Bare Necessities, the number one online retailer in the US for intimate apparel will share new knowledge about the online retail market and address topics such as evolution and trends, costs of running an online store and opportunities for independent retailers. At the brand level, what are the lessons to be learned from brands in other apparel categories. A discussion will follow and the exchange between brand representatives and retailers promises to be lively.
On Monday, February 27 at 3:30pm on the lower level of the Altman Building, Nicki Gondell of Carlin International, the well-known trend specialist will introduce the Fall-Winter 2006/07 trend forecast for lingerie and sleepwear organized around four predominant themes: Nature continues to drive inspiration, Fascination or how to make a statement, Encounters or how opposites attract, Stimuli nourished by dance and gymnastics. This insight will inform retailers’ purchasing decisions.
Retailers can also gain valuable merchandising tips from the superb tour of the best concept stores around the world, selected by The Best of Intima Magazine and shown in a video format accessible at all times during the show. In the Best of Intima’s Lounge retailers will also discover more about the third edition of The Best Shop Awards.
Content and format of Lingerie Americas are designed to make the shopping experience an informed, efficient and pleasurable one.
Lingerie Americas will return on July 30, 31, August 1, 2006 to present the new Spring/Summer 2007 collections.

Should Children Witness
Child Birth?
Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call.
The house was very, very dark, so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-year-old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her Mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked.
Heidi pushed and pushed, and after a little while Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry.
The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-year old what she thought about what she had just witnessed.
Kathleen quickly responded, "He shouldn't have crawled in there in
the first place... smack his butt again"
