Business and Technology
by the Gozooko Guys (Bryan and Karl)
Not another how I weathered the recession, tightened my belt, and fed the family on 10 dollars a day kind of story.
Who’s making money? Are you?
Not Blockbuster. They closed 276 stores last year and expect to close between 810 and 960 this year. Why?
o Ignorant complacency .Their brick and mortar strategy carried them through the nineties; it was a strategy that did not leave them flexible to react effectively to changes in the marketplace.
o Blatant disregard to client wants. A business needs to be responsive and work to fulfill those needs in order to be successful.
o Poor customer satisfaction – remember the Blockbuster late fees? They went away and now they’re back. No matter what the business does that is positive, all the consumer can focus on is the negative.
o Blockbuster attempted to take on Netflix with their Total-Access program. (It took them 9 years to develop an internet-based DVD subscription service.) Splitting their resources while trying to launch a movies-by-mail biz.
Who’s making money?
Netflix. The company's fourth-quarter profit rose 36% to $31 million, related in part to lower costs from acquiring subscribers.
o They have partnered with other large companies; Microsoft , Sony (movies stream through Xbox 360 and Wii)
o Regard for client wants. An easy to use by mail DVD rental system. An easier to use streaming video application
What about you? Do you think about your client’s needs and wants? Have you made the process to purchase your product easy for them? Are you looking forward to finding the next trend?
Here are a few ideas.
o If you have a brick and mortar store make sure you have a web store. A web store gives your customer the convenience of shopping with you when they don’t have time to stop in the store or maybe live a little too far away.
o Customer friendly return policy. If a customer purchases a product in our web store give them the option to return it at your brick and mortar store.
o You can’t carry everything in your store so partner up with your vendors. Use drop shipping. Drop shipping allows you to carry almost every product available so your customer can get that hard to find product from you and not your competition. Allow them to pick it up from you or have it delivered to them.
o Gozooko has web store solutions with vendors such as ECN who have over 100,000 products and videos, in addition to other vendors.

Magic Silk Hits the Runway
for Breast Cancer Awareness
This Valentine’s Day, Magic Silk will be hitting the runway to raise awareness for breast cancer. The New York-based non-profit organization UNITE in Fashion will be staging the Passionately Pink fashion show to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Magic Silk will be donating styles from its new Pink Leopard and Cupid collections for the models to wear on the runway, and 500 silk g-strings to be placed in goody bags given to attendees.
Founded in 2005, UNITE in Fashion promotes awareness of various social issues through fundraising events based on the collaboration of art, music, and fashion. These creative events raise funds for well-known nonprofit organizations. During the past five years, UNITE has successfully contributed to causes such as breast cancer awareness and research, health care reform; and natural disaster reconstruction efforts.
“We are honored to be a part of the UNITE Valentine’s Day fashion show,” stated Jeff Baker, President of Magic Silk. “As a lingerie manufacturer, we feel the responsibility to be involved with efforts to fund breast cancer awareness and research. UNITE has performed wonderful fundraising work for different charities, and we are happy to be supporting such an important cause.”
The fashion show will be held on Sunday, February 14th at 7 pm, at the Maritime Hotel in New York City. The event is open to the public, and admission is a $10 minimum donation per person. All proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure to fund breast cancer research. For more information, please e-mail Jessie@malepower.com

The Annual STOREROTICA Awards recognize outstanding achievement in 10 categories that comprise all aspects of the erotic retail industry, including Lingerie, Dancewear, Accessories, Novelties, Adult Film and Smoke Products. There is also an award for the industry’s top Distributor, as well as “Hot Product of the Year,” which distinguishes the most innovate new erotic item sold over the past 12 months.
In addition to the vendor award categories, there are eight store chains nominated for the prestigious, national award for “Retail Store Chain of the Year.” The other national retailer award category, “Independent Store of the Year,” recognizes the foundation of the erotic retail industry—the individual, single-unit store.
The STOREROTICA Awards are produced by STOREROTICA Magazine, and the award categories are voted on by STOREROTICA readers exclusively at STOREROTICA.com. www.storerotica.com
