When I was at Wharton School of
Business, I had an Entrepreneurship professor who said, “where you see a problem that frustrates people, you’ll find a business opportunity.” Tara Cavosie did exactly that when she created Hooked Up Shapewear.
Shapewear is supposed to be a smoothing garment, but too often, when Tara wore it, the shapewear moved on her body and ended up creating more lumps than it resolved. She says, “the point of shapewear is to look amazing and nobody knows your secret” but the reality wasn’t always meeting the promise, and Tara wasn’t alone with similar complaints. At some point, after battling another style that rolled down over the course of a day, Cavosie wished for shapewear that wouldn’t roll or create a gap between her shaping piece and her bra band, where her back rolls would push out. And with that thought, the inspiration for a better approach to shapewear was born – ultimately becoming
Hooked Up Shapewear.
What makes Hooked Up Shapewear different is that it’s cut with a higher rise across the back, so it is designed to lie under the bra band and eliminate the gap that can form between bra and shapewear. It also comes with straps that connect the bra directly to the garment, but underneath, which keeps the garment in place. Its patent pending design can be customized for any bra, and the garment itself comes with extenders for back smoothing bras, six positions for the placement of the hooks – for further customization, and three sets of hooks to align with the strap widths.
Says Cavosie, “For every scenario when I said, ‘I wish I could buy this,’ I designed the product to solve that problem.” Choices were made to make the product feel luxe, with compressive microfiber that is breathable, light and has a great hand. It’s also designed with a curvy woman in mind. The brand’s primary model is a size 12, which makes it easier to see how the garment lies on a woman with some extra padding on her frame.
The product comes in four styles – brief, mid-thigh, slip and open bust – and two colors, nude and black. The size range is S-3X, and based on hip and waist measurements ranging from waist sizes 26”- 52” and hips from 35 – 57 inches.
The promise of shapewear that stays in place and doesn’t roll is probably going to mean a lot of women wanting to be Hooked Up.

Facebook Fan Votes Determined Winning Halloween

Baci Lingerie announces the winners of the Dreams Retail Display Contest. Baci retail partners Adult World, Fantasy Gifts, and Spice Lingerie garnered the winning votes from Facebook fans. The submissions required the stores to create and submit eye-catching Halloween displays featuring Baci Lingerie’s Dreams Collection of sexy bedroom costumes.
The contest enlisted the participation of each Baci retail partner store, which entered the contest by creating fun, eye-catching floor displays within their stores. Retail partners were encouraged to embellish their display submissions with Baci accessories such as gloves and hosiery. Contest participants also utilized exquisite handmade Italian Masquerade Masks, which feature Swarovski crystal
embellishments, and Baci’s award-winning selection of Eyelashes, which are also a wonderful addition to any lingerie and costume selection.
Baci Lingerie invited fans of each retail store to its Facebook page to enter votes for their favorite display, by “Like”-ing their preferred photo until 11:59pm, October 31.
“The Baci Lingerie Dreams Display Retail Contest on Facebook was a great way to engage our retail stores and their customers in a way that exemplifies the power of social media,” says Baci Social Media Manager Veronica Rajadnya. “The entries for the contest were as creative and evocative as the line itself, and we saw an exciting amount of participation from our followers. Great work to all of the stores that entered, and congrats to our winners!”
A range of prizes will be awarded to the winning retailers, including cash, merchandise, and an HDTV. First place in the contest was Adult World; second place was Fantasy Gifts; third place was Spice Lingerie.

This truck driver hauling a tractor-trailer load of computers stops for a beer. As he approaches the bar he sees a big sign on the door saying "Nerds Not Allowed - Enter At Your Own Risk!" He goes in and sits down.
The bartender comes over to him, sniffs, says, "You smell kind of nerdy. What do you do for a living?"
The truck driver says, "I drive a truck, and the smell is just from the computers I am hauling."
The bartender says, "Okay, truck drivers are not nerds." and serves him a beer. As he is sipping his beer, a skinny guy walks in with tape around his glasses, a pocket protector with twelve kinds of pens and pencils, and a belt at least a foot too long. The bartender, without saying a word, pulls out a shotgun and blows the guy away.
The truck driver said, totally shocked, "Why did you do that?"
The bartender said, "Not to worry, the nerds are overpopulating Silicon Valley and are in season now. You don't even need a license."
The truck driver finishes his beer, gets back in his truck, and heads back onto the freeway. Suddenly he veers to avoid an accident, and the load shifts. The back door breaks open and computers spill out all over the freeway. He jumps out and sees a crowd already forming, grabbing up the computers. They are all engineers, accountants and programmers wearing the nerdiest clothes he has ever seen.
He can't let them steal his whole load. So, remembering what happened in the bar, he pulls out his gun and starts blasting away, felling several of them instantly. A highway patrol officer comes zooming up and jumps out of the car screaming at him to stop.
The truck driver said, "What's wrong? I thought nerds were in season."
"Well, sure," said the patrolman. "But you can't bait 'em."
