New Type of Birthday Decorations
Seventy-five bras were attached to Joyce Commons' house, mailbox and
tree. When Joyce Commons, of Hopkins, turned 75, her family celebrated in a big way--they decorating her house with 75 bras.
Commons, whose birthday was Nov. 6, was shocked when she saw the outside of her house. There were bras on the house, on a clothesline, the mailbox and in a tree.
"They were every size, color and shape," Commons said. "They were flapping in the breeze."
The bra caper was lead by Commons' sister, Dorothy Homrich of Hamilton and other family members. To prepare for the prank, women in the family collected bras for one year. Family members also placed signs along 128th Avenue near the Hopkins Village limits, asking people to wish Commons a happy birthday. There was a bra attached to one of the signs.
"My sister is always planning something," Commons said. "We're very close."
Fortunately, Commons has a sense of humor about the caper.
"It was so funny," Commons said. "I didn't know if I should be embarrassed, laugh, or just cry."
The next morning, family members came to remove the bras, but Commons is not sure what became of the
bras.
"They had two big garbage bags and that's the last I saw of them," Commons said. "I will definitely never forget my 75th birthday!"

Warnaco to Cut Corporate Staff
US apparel maker Warnaco Group is to cut 7% of its corporate staff in a bid to adapt to the difficult
economic climate.
In total, the streamlining will result in 45 positions being lost, the company confirmed.
"We need to align our costs to today's economic climate," a Warnaco spokesperson said.
The company, which owns or licenses brands including Speedo, Clavin Klein and Warner's, has also cited a
US$40m reduction in Selling, General & Administrative Expense (SG&A) next year.
Speaking in a conference call to investors, Warnaco CEO Joe Gromek confirmed the reductions, and said: "We are
taking immediate actions to respond to the macroeconomic environment.
"We will continue to control the things we can control, and we will align our costs to reflect the current
economic conditions."
On November 7, Warncaco reported that its profit soared to $26.5m for the third quarter, from $4.4m in the
prior year period.
Net revenues for the third quarter rose 16% to $548.7m and gross margin increased 520 basis points to 47% of
net revenues.
