Nanotech Creates
Waterproof Fabrics
Researchers at the University of Zurich have come up with a new water-repellent coating which could be used
to make some of the most waterproof garments ever seen.
The scientists say that during experiments, treated materials were fully immersed in water for at least two
months, yet emerged completely dry. A jet of water also bounces off the fabric without leaving a trace.
The fabric is coated in a one-step gas phase with millions of silicone nanofilaments, which form
protective spikes on which drops of water sit but do not penetrate.
The nanofilaments also trap a layer of air between them, to create a permanent air layer which ensures the
water never comes into contact with the fabric below.
The coating can be applied to polyester, wool, viscose and cotton fabrics, it doesn't affect the fabric's
color or strength, and can even be machine washed.
As well as outerwear, applications could include swimsuits that never get wet.

La Cera Opens New Showroom,
Unveils New Items
by Luis Paredes
With a splash of color, spirits and friends, sleepwear and ready-to-wear company La Cera celebrated 25 years in business and a new showroom on November 5.
The new showroom at 42 West 39th Street (17th floor), generates more buyer traffic compared to their previous location at 183 Madison according to Erin Buckley of La
Cera.
"We really love this building," said Buckley. "Buyers can come up to the showroom and see the whole La Cera experience."
New to the experience is a new line of tie dye dresses and tunics for Spring Summer 2009 revealed at the showroom celebration. "The new collection is a rayon spandex knit that comes in a variety of vibrant colors that people are going to love," noted Buckley. "They'll be shipping starting in April.
Joy Yih of La Cera noted that the garments are made in the desserts of India, where they get their uniquely vibrant color from the extraordinary heat they are exposed to during the manufacturing process. The sun helps the colors blossom into the rich reds, purples and greens on La Cera's newest collection.

International Lingerie Show
by Luis Paredes
Even with an economic storm looming buyers still came out in force at the last edition of the International Lingerie Show in Las Vegas that ran from September 15 through the
17th at the Rio Hotel.
The new September dates helped retailers, previously wary or unable to leave their store during the lucrative Halloween season, attend the show and exhibitors were pleased with the results.
New exhibitors included Donna Di Capri Lingerie, Camobooty, and 100% Babe amongst others.
Buyers noted that the diversity and number of exhibitors exceeded their expectations.
David Nelson of Vixens said, "This seems to be a pretty good show compared to the CURVE show. A lot more products here and a lot better layout so I'm pretty happy that I came to this show."
First time attendee Jennifer Cohen opening a new store called Ti Amo Lingerie in Oregon exclaimed, "The show is completely amazing. It's actually a little overwhelming because its the first show I've been to. One of the most interesting things I've found here is a line of
men's boxes called EGO and they are phenomenal. It has been an amazing show!"
At the same time, exhibitors noticed the difference in buyers at this show. Tony Lam of iBasic Intima said, "Buyers are here to buy at this show."
Michael Moreira of the International Lingerie Show noted that the next edition of the will be held on April 20 - 22nd, 2009 at the Rio Hotel.
What's new at the next edition? How will the next show be different? Moreira said, "We're really excited because we've had such success with our
Halloween costume on the sexy side we've now developed now into a more all inclusive Halloween costume show so we're not going to limit our selves to sexy costumes we'll be out there with everything that's offered by some of the largest manufacturers in the Halloween industry such as Rubies, Fun World and some of the other bigger names like Dreamgirl, Leg Avenue, Shirley of Hollywood so we're really excited."

Bra Repair Device
An inventor's device to fix bras when the underwire pops out has won two gold medals for invention of the year.
Scott Dutton, from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, came up with a simple DIY device to fix his wife Laura's bra when the underwire popped out of the seams.
His prototype was turned into a marketable product - the Bra Angel.
It works by pushing the wire back into the bra seam and holding it in via
barbed edges.
Its small plastic cap with barbed edges fits neatly over the underwire which is then pushed back into the seam and anchored in place by the barbs.
The invention beat competition from around the world after judges at the British Invention Show gave him gold for invention of the year and was also first in the consumer category of invention of the year.
Mr. Dutton said he came up with the innovation after his wife had numerous bras ruined because the seam holding the underwire split in places and caused the underwire to be exposed.
At first he searched the web for a solution but found the only solutions on offer were from seamstresses in the US offering to sew over the seam.
Mr. Dutton turned his original idea into a marketable product with the help of the assembly government's Wales Innovators Network which helps inventors.

Miracle Underwear?
A Vietnamese distributor has recently been touting a brand of Taiwanese-made underwear with tourmaline stones in them as offering a miracle cure for several diseases.
Apparently Yahgo Vietnam Trading Ltd Company has several enthusiastic converts among its customers who now want to become dealers for the products but does it truly cure even fatal diseases like liver and cervical cancers?
The Tourmaline brand of bra is made by Best Rita Holding of Taiwan and
imported by Quy Xuyen Ltd. Co.
A woman who wanted to be known just as Ms. L. claimed to wear tourmaline products for just two weeks before her goiter and hypertension disappeared. But she said patients must also wear a bracelet and necklace, take spirulina, and wear the bra even when sleeping.
Yahgo employees held forth to customers on the benefits of tourmaline products at its office at 28-34, Street No. 26, District 6.
T.V. Binh, one of the employees, assured a customer without even inquiring about his ailment that it would be better within two weeks if patients use Tourmaline products.
When the patient revealed he has a herniated disc, Mr. Binh claimed the stone can release Far IR magnetic power and Negative ions, and make the body release minerals needed to improve blood circulation.
Herniated discs have gotten better after patients used Tourmaline underpants and wrist-bands, he said. But like Ms. L., he too advised the patient to buy a bracelet, necklace, and spirulina for over VND6 million.
The first floor of the office is crowded with customers and staff. K. Han, another employee, spoke about the benefits of Tourmaline underclothes and bangles. She nodded when someone asked if they could cure cervical cancer.
The company’s manual, which costs VND100,000, lists the “benefits” of using the products but not their contents or the origins of the stone. It does not say if the products have been approved by the health authorities, either.

Hanesbrands to Close Yarn
Plant
T-shirt, underwear and sock maker Hanesbrands Inc is to cut nearly 400 jobs and close its yarn production plant
in China Grove, North Carolina as part of its latest round of cost-cutting measures.
Around 210 of the jobs being axed are management and corporate roles, while 185 employees will lose their
positions when the yarn plant shuts at the end of the year.
About half of the management cutbacks are being made in the company's supply chain management
organization and half in corporate functions including customer management, finance, human resources, information
technology and marketing.
"Given the significant economic uncertainty, we must manage our business conservatively, and we must tightly
control costs," said Richard A Noll, Hanesbrands chief executive officer.
"These are difficult but necessary actions that we must take to compete in today's market environment and
emerge as a stronger company."
Of the 210 positions, 155 are located in Winston-Salem, 35 at various other US locations, and 20 at
international locations.
The company said the yarn plant closure is due to declining demand for higher-end ring-spun yarn used in
certain underwear, sock and T-shirt products.
It expects the restructuring to incur charges of $14m, primarily in the fourth quarter.
Hanesbrands, which has approximately 48,600 employees worldwide and owns brands such as Champion,
Wonderbra, Playtex and Bali, is in the midst of a long-term plan to cut costs by consolidating production into fewer but
bigger facilities in Asia.
It expects its supply chain streamlining to be completed by the end of summer 2009.
Since spinning off from Sara Lee Corp in September 2006, Hanesbrands has closed at least 28 plants
worldwide employing around 16,300 workers.
Most recently, in September, it revealed plans to close nine plants in five western hemisphere countries and
axe 8,100 jobs.
Restructuring costs dragged down third quarter profits at the apparel group, with net income falling 59.1% to
US$15.9m as sales stagnated at $1.15bn. The firm has also been hit by the bankruptcy of regional retailers
such as Mervyn's.

I have a lady who was fitted at a bra specialist and the biggest size they carried was a "K"
We only carry the typical Shirley, Dreamgirl, ect.
Is there anyone out there who could fit this lady to a bra that actually is her correct
size, she feels she is even larger than a "K" but that was just as large as they could go at that particular
store. I do not know of any specialty bra suppliers that go that big in the
cup. Anyone know of a company we can contact for her ?
Thanks, Nichole
