Fashion Shows Are Becoming
      A Fashion Statement

     By James Bryant/Photos by PhotosbyColeman.com

Despite such catastrophes as Hurricane Katrina one-month prior, the atmosphere of the 2005 Midwest Models Expo was one of much anticipation and excitement. Models of all levels--amateur to professional—graced our stage and once again made our show into something special. Our attendees’ natural beauty shined and helped us raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The October 8th fashion event was the biggest event to date, as our stage was brightly light from the effervescent glow of the lights from our exclusive photographers. As our contestants sauntered the stage, they displayed their best outfits, their poise, and charm to our audience. But we learned that it takes more that just a pretty face to become a model, more than just a want but a desire to succeed in the modeling field. Our show has seen its fair share of women thinking that modeling is easy, and a way to make a quick buck… not so. It’s those whom continue to be seen at events such as ours or make public appearances whenever possible. Models that continue to make efforts to grow personally, and spiritually that will finally reach their destination… success.
Attendees modeled everything from bikinis’ to eveningwear on our stage, while photographers snapped images of their favorite models. The Expo attracted many new faces, a younger breed of model, with a sprinkling of our seasoned local talent. With those new faces and various loyal followers, together to network at the Expo, the combination helped boost the excitement and enhanced this event. Once again, our executive photographer Al Coleman (www.photosbycoleman.com) captured all the fun and excitement for all to see. Feel like you missed something? You did! Consider visiting our web site and signing up to our mailing list to be kept up-to-date on future shows.
Our exhibit area was filled with various companies to help beautify, promote, and advance a young or professional models career. Such companies as: MuseCube, One Model Place, along with a local Mary Kay distributor and Fashion Bug. Our generous sponsors, such as; Tia Lynn lingerie, Dreamgirl Calendars, along with Sony Electronics and other outstanding companies helped brighten our event with many valuable prizes. Lia Montelongo from the “Mortal Kombat” movies series smiled sweetly and met with visitors at the show. I even had my photo taken with Lia too. View all our sponsors by visiting www.MidwestModelsExpo.com
New features were added to the layout of the show this year; spaces for photographers wishing to do individual shoots, gold plated trophies and more exposure for our models. We are now offering exclusive shooting areas to photographers who are interested in doing shoots while at the show. As we add more features and continue to become more of a fashion show and less of an expo. We asked our visitors what they would like to see, they told us and we listened, so look for more fashion events from us in the future.
We are now looking for fashion designers here in the Midwest
to display their outfits on our stage at the next show.  Contact James
at james@midwestmodelsexpo.com if you are interested.

Boy Shorts Vs The Thong
Women around the world have had enough. They're starting to turn their backs on the thong, the scanty underwear style that has overtaken lingerie departments worldwide.
Nationwide chains and department stores have brought in big supplies of hipsters and boy shorts in anticipation of the change. And last week, Mintel, a Chicago-based market research company, reported sales of thongs in the United Kingdom have fallen 14% since 2003, to represent 23% of the panty market.
Meanwhile, British women have boosted sales of full-cut "maxi" panties by 36%.
The newly popular boy shorts, also called French knickers, are made from stretchy mesh, lace or cotton and often cut to leave no visible panty line. They can look like an abbreviated, clingy version of 1920s tap pants or like a frilly men's brief.
The flourishing of the peasant skirt this year helped usher in boy shorts, which "are more comfortable under skirts and leave the wearer feeling less vulnerable than a thong," says James McCoy, consumer analyst with Mintel.
Indeed, boy shorts fit and flatter a wider range of figures.
Victoria's Secret, Frederick's of Hollywood and Macy's report sales of boy shorts are "neck and neck" with thongs this season.

Nordstrom Q3 Income
      Increases 38%
Fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom has enjoyed a 38% third-quarter income jump, on net and same-store sales increases.
Quarterly earnings totaled $107.5 million compared to $77.8m in the same period last year. Net sales for the quarter grew 8% to $1.7 billion from $1.5bn a year ago, as same-store sales rose 5.9%.
The company cited good sales momentum as well as ongoing operating enhancements as reasons for the income hike.
For the first nine months of the year, net income took a 42% hike to $360.9m from $253.5m last year, on a 7.9% net and 6.1% same-store increase.

Chinese Blamed for 20,000
  Job Losses in Guatemala

Guatemala's apparel industry lost 20,000 jobs of its workforce from January to October, as soaring Chinese imports to the US crippled its export market.
The industry also lost 48 factories to leave 206 operating, a spokesman for Guatemalan Apparel and Textile Industry Commission (VESTEX).
The liberalization of the global textiles market in 2005 has prompted a surge of Chinese garment sales to the US, the Central American country's biggest trade partner.
Specifically, the Chinese incursion has hurt weavers and knitters making mass-market shirts and trousers, a trade that represents 60% of Guatemala's clothes production, the spokeswoman said.
Low-cost Chinese shirt and trouser exports to the US soared 1,500% and 800% cent respectively in the first ten months of the year, quashing Guatemalan sales of those garments, according to VESTEX.
Consequently, Guatemala's apparel sales to the US will fall to US$1.4bn, down from $1.46bn in 2004, the spokesman noted. Guatemala exports 95% of its clothing production.
