Fifty Women Pose Nude to Protest War
POINT REYES STATION, Calif.- Some women are baring it all to protest the possibility of war in Iraq.
Fifty women in California took off all their clothes earlier this week and spelled out the word "peace" on a baseball field just north of San Francisco.   Seventy-two-year-old artist Donna Sheehan said she organized the protest to convey the desperation that she and other women feel about going to war.   She called her friends, and they called their friends — and soon they were ready to pose for a local photographer.
The women aren't exactly sure what to do with the picture.
They've all signed documents allowing their images to be sold, with proceeds going to the peace movement.

The Victoria Secrets Show

Victoria's Secret doesn't put on a typical fashion show. Besides strategically draped models, Thursday's show featured musical numbers, acrobats and even a runway showdown between a model and anti-fur protesters. what about the lingerie? Victoria's Secret decided to focus less on seductive, skin-baring numbers from the past and instead on embellished pieces with fur-trimmed moccasins, neon ribbons, silver bustiers and light chiffon trains.
Activists for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals rushed the stage as Gisele Bundchen strutted down the runway in a beaded bra and panties, thigh-high black stockings and red strappy heels. The four female protesters, carrying signs that read "Gisele: Fur Scum," shouted at the supermodel as she calmly completed her runway turn. PETA has targeted Bundchen since she signed a modeling contract with Blackglama, a leading American fur company.
The protesters were taken away, the lights went down and the segment of the show that was interrupted was redone. As Bundchen strode out for the second time in the outfit, the audience erupted into applause for the composed supermodel.
The dramatic confrontation was oddly fitting in a show that featured tried-and-true black lace numbers as well as everything from clear go-go boots with Day-Glo lingerie to fur caps paired with moccasin boots. And wings, lots of wings.

Models pose on the runway together at the conclusion of the 2002 'Victoria's Secret' fashion show in New York City, November 14, 2002.
Many of the world's top name models were available to strut the stage with often outlandish & provocative garments.

'Bachelor' Crushes Victoria's Secret TV Special
LOS ANGELES- The ecstasy and the agony of a made-for-TV courtship proved more compelling to viewers than sexy models in lingerie as the season finale of ABC's "The Bachelor" trounced CBS's "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" in the ratings.
In one of the hottest prime-time matchups this season, ABC averaged 24.1 million viewers during the first hour of the "Bachelor" finale Wednesday night opposite the controversial "Victoria's Secret" special on CBS, which drew an audience of 10.5 million, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Aaron Buerge, 28, a banker from Springfield, MO., and his fiance Helen Eksterowicz pose for photographers, Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at ABC Studios in New York where they met the media after the final showdown of the hit romance-reality series 'The Bachelor.' Buerge proposed to Eksterowicz, a school psychologist from Gloucester City, N. J., in the closing moments of the show Wednesday, which attracted an average of 26 million viewers.

A man in a bar sees a friend at a table, drinking by himself.
Approaching the friend he comments, "You look terrible. What's the problem?"
"My mother died in August," he said, "and left me $25,000."
"Gee, that's tough," he replied.
"Then in September," the friend continued, "My father died, leaving me $90,000."
"Wow. Two parents gone in two months. No wonder you're depressed."
"And last month my aunt died, and left me $15,000."
"Three close family members lost in three months? How sad."
"Then this month," continued, the friend, "absolutely nothing!"

Some Bikini History
1946: Bikini officially invented by engineer Louis Reard in Paris, and named after the Pacific Atolls where the first H-Bomb was tested. Interestingly enough though, Reard's idea came from the work of Jacques Heim who had 2 months earlier created the "Atome" (named for its size) and donned it the world's "smallest bathing suit." But Reard, 'split the atome' and created the world's newest smallest bathing suit. Americans describe it as a "two-piece bathing suit that reveals everything about a girl except her mother's maiden name." It took another 15 years for the bikini to become a hit in America
1964: Designer Rudi Gernreich cuts out half the bikini and leaves women topless. The "bikini" sells more than 3,000 suits in less than a season in Europe. Defending his creation, Gernreich says,
"Sex is in the person, not in what she puts on."
1970s: Rio and St. Tropez produce the Tanga suit -- also called the Thong, the string bikini.  Later revitalized in 2000.

Dear Pete:  I am enjoying your newsletter and hopefully trying to learn from your experience in the industry.. We are opening a new retail operation in Daytona Beach as a base for launching a private label line of womens swimwear and dancewear catering to resort areas.
In addition, we are seeking a few solid manufacturers to work with on our product line.  Gene  ggriswold@cfl.rr.com
Hi Gene, there are many manufacturers out there, you can contact many of them through the advertisements in our newsletter, or from the photo's of the shows that we cover for the Industry.  But perhaps some of the manufacturers will contact you directly after reading this.   Good Luck,  Pete..

Hi! It seems that every time I'm searching for information on the lingerie industry your website comes up in the search. You have a very informative newsletter and I have signed up for it.
I was wondering if you could help me with my research. I am trying to locate information on market share for on-line lingerie shops and I'm having a very difficult time. Would you know this information and know where I might be able to find it? I hope to hear from you soon! Thanks so much! Rosanne   peaceman@sympatico.ca

I am trying to find information on Intermezzo and Coterie in New York 2003. Any information that you could give me such as dates, location, phone numbers or web sites would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Lena Sartoris Pittsburgh Jeans Co. lms77@netzero.net

Dear sir or madam,  could you send me details of the underwear trade fair in Dusseldorf, February 2003. For example the exhibitors and how I can register.  Thankyou  sindee.hastings@tesco.net
Sindee, I have the CPD Women's & Men's Ready to wear Fashion in Dusseldorf on February 2-4, 2003.  I do not know of an Intimate apparel show there in Feb, but maybe one of our readers will know.  Good Luck,  Pete...

While vacationing in Gold Coast Australia we found a lingerie store (unfortunately closed) with a wonderful collection of Chantal Thomass designer (wide variety of patterns and colors) Stockings and Thigh-Hi's. Where can I shop for these on the net?  Thanks, Lydia LTCJWTJR@hotmail.com

I want to open a physical location in my town, but am having a hard time
finding the laws that govern adult oriented stores.  I need to know
areas I am allowed to put a store (x-number of feet from schools, etc),
items I may not be able to sell, ratio of adult- to non-adult oriented
sales that qualify the store as adult-oriented, etc.  However, no one
can tell me where to look to find this type of information.  There are
no other lingerie/adult stores in the county, everybody at city hall
seems dumbfounded that anyone would want to find such information, and I can't even find anything on the internet.  Does anyone know the place
that you have to go to get these laws - planning & zoning, police
department, city hall?  Under what type of heading might the laws be
listed in the books?  Many thanks, Sarah  hvnly@hvnlynights.com
