The decline in certain retail sectors comes as no surprise in light of the tough economy. While October retails showed some positive results, much
of it was provided by aggressive markdowns. A close look at the numbers reveals that specialty retail profits are definitely doing south. And a close
look at consumer attitudes suggest that this is a trend that isn't going to change soon.
Electronic bra stops breasts from
bouncing and keeps them warm
A Californian man has invented an electronic bra that will stop
sportswomen's breasts bouncing and keep them warm.
Michael Pottenger from Santa Monica says the bra is fitted with
electronic underwiring which the wearer can manipulate.
He says a two-way switch will allow women to control the
rigidness of the bra and the movement of their breasts.
Mr Pottenger says piezoelectric strips are woven into the cups.
When the switch is activated electricity goes to a resistor which
stiffens the bra's cups. This steadies the movement of the breasts and warms them up, the New Scientist reports.
The switch may also power separate piezo strips to more
actively counteract breast movement.

Internet Sales Soar 75%
The day after Thanksgiving, dubbed Black Friday by those in the industry, is traditionally considered the start of the holiday retail season and a harbinger of what to expect over the next four weeks.
According to Yahoo! if last weekend is any indication, it will be a merry season, at least for Internet retail. Yahoo's shopping channel saw an increase of more than 75 percent over last year's post-turkey weekend.

Plus-Size Women Try On Clothes In
Virtual Dressing Room
Canada-based My Virtual Model Inc, leading developers of online visualisation and sizing technologies, today announced a partnership with Plussize.com, a leading online shopping destination for plus-sized women.
Plussize.com is an online shopping mall that sells select collections from more than 40 leading retailers, including Nordstrom, Eddie Bauer and LL Bean, specifically to women sized 12 and up.
The addition of the My Virtual Model Dressing Room will enable women to "try on" clothes before by keying in information about their height, weight, hairstyle and hair
color. The process takes about two minutes to complete, with each password-protected user profile saved for unlimited repeat use.
Elisabeth by Liz Claiborne Inc will be the first retail partner to be included in Plussize.com's My Virtual Model Dressing Room early next year.
Body Scanning Technology Tailored To Suit
Shoppers' Needs
Innovative new body scanning technology that allows consumers to customise suits, sport coats, trousers, and dress shirts, is being offered to shoppers at Brooks Brothers' flagship New York store.
Called Digital Tailoring, the system works by scanning the person's body to safely and accurately render a body's exact measurements.
The white-light scan takes around 12 seconds to complete and its backers say the result is great fitting custom-made clothing, precisely tailored to fit the body's unique contours and specific proportions.
A three-dimensional map is created from the scan that captures over 200,000 data points - everything from the circumference of wrists, biceps, chest and neck, to the shoulders and seat.
The customer then reviews custom tailoring options with a dedicated member of staff and goes through a wide selection of fabrics from which a suit, tuxedo, sport coat,
blazer, trousers, or shirt can be made.
Sara Lee Corp. is set to shed a further 1,000 jobs, bringing the total number of staff redundancies to 14,263, or nine percent of the company's workforce, since it began restructuring 18 months ago.
The majority of staff cuts are expected to come from the company's apparel unit, which includes Hanes underwear, Playtex bras and L'eggs pantyhose.
Gap Posts First Quarterly Loss in 10 Years
Slashing prices to get rid of ill-conceived fall merchandise has failed to rescue Gap Inc. from posting a third quarter loss, the company’s first quarterly loss in 10 years.
Gap, the San Francisco-based company which owns Banana Republic and Old Navy, posted losses of $178.8 million or 21 cents per share, compared to a profit of $186 million or 21 cents a share for the same period last year.
Can fashion and the Internet coexist peacefully ... and profitably? Despite the early advances of mass marketers like the Gap and J. Crew, the fashion industry as a whole is in the early stages of learning how to make the most of the Internet. Needless to say, many fashion houses are learning about the Internet the hard way. Based on our analysis of more than 80 sites, the fashion industry builds heavier - and therefore slower - web sites than other industries.

Pete, Thanks for putting out this wonderful lingerie newsletter! It is so helpful! I do have a question for your
readers. Does anyone know how I can get in touch with a company called "Naughty Lola"? A picture of their booth
at the International Lingerie show was shown in the last newsletter with a email but I've had no luck contacting
them. They haven't responded to my email. I found a phone # on a website (1-865-522-2024) and I've been calling but
all I get is a machine that gives me about 10 seconds to leave a message & then I get cut off. I would truly appreciate
any info on how to reach this company. Thank you!!
