Fashion Photo Shoots – On a Budget

There seems to be two types of companies, the one who goes above and beyond for their product shots and the one who takes pictures in their living room. Either way if you don’t have photographs of your product you’re not selling at your full potential. 

Companies with a large photography budget will have no problem finding amazing photographers, models, and locations. However if photo shoots just don’t take priority in the grand scheme of your business then there are ways to go about getting great shots of your designs. With inexpensive digital SLR cameras on the market and the ease of programs like Photoshop creating beautiful product photos is a piece of cake without spending a fortune; here’s how:

1. Shoot Outdoors
Now I’ve worked with all types of photographers; student and professional, what I’ve learned is shooting in sunlight is much easier than photographing indoors. If you have a novice photographer, or you’re doing the work try taking some outdoor photos. If you absolutely need an indoor set make sure your photographer has this experience. 

2. Use Students
Photography students usually have access to free studios at their school. Don’t be afraid to ask what school year your photographer is in, seniors will be looking to build portfolio pieces. 

3. Share your Photos
Speaking of portfolios, if you’re paying photographers, makeup artists, and models at a discounted rate (or not at all) they will probably want to use your pictures in their portfolios. Offering a TFCD (Trade For CD of Images) deal can bring in new models seeking experience, or experienced models seeking new looks for their portfolio. Same goes for photographers and makeup artists. 

4. Pay with Samples
With so many models out there and so few paying jobs you can get a great model by offering them samples of your product in lieu of payment. 

5. Let Others be the Creative Genius
A wonderful photographer might want to try something new for his/her portfolio. If you relinquish control of the art direction you may get creative and inexpensive photos.

Flattering the Full-Busted Female
The denizens of the intimate apparel world gather twice a year at a trade show known as Curve. This year, manufacturers revealed their latest and greatest – all of which will be arriving in stores in the coming months. Full-busted women are in for a treat toward achieving their best bra fit, as a number of new brands exhibited their gorgeous finery.

Curvy Kate
is a UK-based lingerie brand making its debut in the US. The bra and panty styles are flirty and fun, with names to match – Thrill Me, Tease Me, and Tempt Me are some examples. Curvy Kate comes in cup sizes D-K, with band sizes that run from 28-40. One unique aspect of the brand is that Curvy Kate runs a contest to find its models from the general population. Their “Star in a Bra” competition features “naturally curvy girls who are confident enough to show…how gorgeous they look in lingerie.” Currently, the Star in a Bra competition runs in both the UK and Australia. One hopes a US-based version will be coming soon.

San Francisco-based Two Figs is already available in stores across the United States (see www.two-figs.com for locations), but is a relative newcomer filling an underserved niche in the lingerie market. Namely, the company creates sleepwear expressly designed for the full-busted women. As a former bra fitter, Deb Figge (who co-owns the company with her husband, Chris) was frustrated that, beyond bras, there were such limited lingerie offerings for full-busted women. Frustration led to inspiration, and Two Figs was born. The line is designed to be easy-to-wear and luxurious, yet supportive. “It’s just as easy to put a nightgown over your head as a t-shirt,” says Deb. Two Figs offers nightgowns, chemises, and camis with coordinating bottoms. Sizing is 1-4, corresponding to band sizes 32-38. All of the garments support the D-G cup range.

While the family-owned company has been around for the past 20 years, it has only recently been introduced in the US, hitting its first stores this September. Krisline follows UK sizing, and offers cup sizes up to K, with bands ranging from 30-50, making Krisline an option for both full-busted and full-figured women. In addition to its lingerie, Krisline also features maternity bras.

It's been a few months since the last Indie Designer Spotlight, but I've recently discovered a new lingerie designer that I think you'll really like too.

The name of the label is NaomiLingerie, and it's a 100% handmade, Japanese style brand. Every piece is about conveying innocence, warmth, and pleasantness, and I believe these designs do exactly that.

Red Daisy Women’s Activewear

Sportswear and sex appeal don’t always go together. At least that’s what  Phylise Sands thought. An avid athlete, she developed a passion for running, dancing and exercise, but the sports bras and compression tops on the market never made her feel pretty. Looking for a solution, she created Red Daisy, a line of attractive sports bras, active tops and bottoms. “The wide strap, high-cut bra styles out there are just not pretty,” says Sands. “Why not look pretty, feminine, sexy when you work out?”

Bras are the centerpiece of the collection, which contains three styles—a seamless molded underwire, a seamless molded soft cup and a cut and sew slip over style. Each style features a low neckline and thin, convertible straps . The support comes from the bra cups’ three-layers of UltraSoft Sensitive microfiber and Lycra. This technology allows women bounce control, without flattening them out.
Additionally, $5 from ever bra sales will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. “I have family member with breast cancer, so this is an important cause for me,” says Sands. “I added a charm to every bra that serves as a reminder to all women to examine themselves monthly.”


The collection also includes a fitted racer back tank, compression tights and capris, a thong, a tanga short and a boy short. All bottoms are made in the same UltraSoft Sensitive microfiber and feature keyhole details that coordinate with the bra tops.

Pink Expands NFL
       Collection
Victoria's Secret is expanding its Pink National Football League (NFL) collection to include all 32 teams ahead of the 2011 season.
The line of officially licensed apparel was launched last August, and includes T-shirts, hoodies and tank tops with the names and logos of the NFL teams. The co-branded Victoria's Secret Pink and NFL merchandise will be available in Victoria's Secret stores.

                       50 Years
A couple were celebrating 50 years together.. Their three kids, all very successful, agreed to a Sunday dinner in their honor.
"Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad," gushed son number one .... 'Sorry I'm running late. I had an emergency at the hospital with a patient, you know how it is, and I didn't have time to get you a gift."
"Not to worry," said the father. "The important thing is that we're all together today."
Son number two arrived and announced, "You and Mom look great, Dad. I just flew in from Los Angeles between depositions and didn't have time to shop for you."
"It's nothing," said the father. "We're glad you were able to come."
Just then the daughter arrived. "Hello and happy anniversary! I'm sorry, but my boss is sending me out of town and I was really busy packing so I didn't have time to get you anything.."
After they had finished dessert, the father said, "There's something your mother and I have wanted to tell you for a long time. You see, we were very poor. Despite this, we were able to send each of you to college. Throughout the years your mother and I knew that we loved each other very much, but we just never found the time to get married."
The three children gasped and all said, "You mean we're bastards?"
"Yep," said the father. "And cheap ones too."
