Tai Yuen Textiles Fined $2.26M
Taiwanese company Tai Yuen Textiles operating in South Africa has been fined ZAR17m (US$2.26m) - thought to be the highest fine ever imposed on a non-compliant employer - for underpaying 393 workers.
The Commission of Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration said the company underpaid its employees by ZAR11.5m between February 12, 2007 and April 27, 2008.
Tai Yuen Textiles was also ordered to pay the workers just over ZAR1m in unpaid annual bonuses.

Queen Victoria's Undies
          Auctioned
Queen Victoria must be turning in her grave knowing that her undergarments have been auctioned, revealing her ample measurements.
A pair of her bloomers, a chemise and a nightdress went under the hammer at Mackworth in Derby for 13,500 pounds ($27,000).
The cotton bloomers are monogrammed with a VR (Victoria Regina) and attracted bids from as far as Brazil, Russia, Hong Kong and New York. They finally went to a lady from Canada for 4,500 pounds, according to auctioneer Charles Hanson.
A London collector snapped up Queen Victoria's chemise for 3,800 pounds. Her nightdress sold for 5,200 pounds to an American collector.
Hanson said: "The atmosphere was electric and I am delighted that Victoria has been given a good send-off."
The sizes of the garments gave an indication of her majesty's measurements. For instance, her bloomers, dating back to the 1880s, measure 50 inches at the waist. The chemise has a 66-inch bust. The nightdress is only 50 inches long, suggesting she was as short as she was stout.
Queen Victoria's underwear had been kept by one of her ladies-in-waiting and was sold by a family from Lincolnshire, who are said to be "delighted" with the outcome.

Ginch Gonch Aquired by
      New Equity Capital
New Equity Capital, the Montreal based equity funding corporation founded by Herschel Segal and Josh Ronn, announced they have acquired the Vancouver based apparel company, Ginch Gonch, and have moved its headquarters to Montreal. Naomi Ronn is Ginch Gonch's new President and CEO. Jason Sutherland, founder of the four-year-old brand popular for its bold and youthful designs, will remain as Ginch Gonch's Creative Director.
"Ginch Gonch is an innovative brand with a devoted niche following that we aim to launch to the next level," said Herschel Segal.
Segal's firm, New Equity Capital, specializes in funding companies in industries he is familiar with. As founder and former CEO of the publicly traded clothing chain Le Chateau, Segal knows the apparel industry. He believes the so-called fun-derwear industry (men's underwear briefs featuring playful designs) - of which Gonch Gonch dominates - is ripe for mainstream appeal. "The demand is there," continued Segal. "Ginch Gonch merely needed the capital and expertise of proven fashion techniques."
Josh Ronn, Segal's partner at New Equity Capital, agrees. A former President of Domestic Converters, a textile trading company, Ronn, too, offers a keen sense of the apparel industry and is excited to be at the foreground of the emerging trend. "We specifically seek to support entrepreneurs who demonstrate ambition, know-how, and patience in growing their businesses. Jason Sutherland, and his Ginch Gonch brand, is in perfect alignment with our criteria."
Jason Sutherland founded Ginch Gonch in the summer of 2003 with its debut collections Weiner Eaters (featuring colorful hotdogs-in-buns designs), Jolly Cocks (playful roosters) and Crotch Rockets (motorcycles). With its protest against boring white underwear and its "Live like a Kid" motto, Ginch Gonch quickly grew into one of the hottest premium underwear brands worldwide.
"Ginch Gonch has always been about having fun," confirmed Jason Sutherland from his new office headquarters in Montreal. "New Equity Capital and its leaders are committed to continuing Ginch Gonch's edge while also improving on its already top-notch construction."
Prior to her new role as President and CEO of Ginch Gonch, Naomi Ronn launched and managed two apparel brands, Climawear and KnowMe, at Domestic Converters; where she remains President. "I am thrilled to lead the next generation of Ginch Gonch. We have assembled the best team in the apparel industry. Together, we will re-define active wear."
Ginch Gonch will unveil its fall 2008 men's underwear collection, Load'n & Dump'n, featuring dump trucks, at this summer's Project Convention in Las Vegas and at Lyon in Paris. The company will also re-launch its women's and children's lines; and re-issue past design favorites as part of Ginch Gonch's expanded active wear collection.

Why Do We Love Children?
1) NUDITY
I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat,  'Mom, that lady isn't wearing a seat belt!'
2) OPINIONS
On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, 'The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents.'
3) KETCHUP
A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. 'Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now. She's hitting the bottle.'
4) MORE NUDITY
A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, 'What's the matter, haven't you ever seen a little boy before?'
5) POLICE # 1
While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, 'Are you a cop? Yes,' I answered and continued writing the report. My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?' 'Yes, that's right,' I told her. 'Well, then,' she said as she extended her foot toward me, 'would you please tie my shoe?'
6) POLICE # 2
It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me. 'Is that a dog you got back there?' he asked.
'It sure is,' I replied.
Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the Van. Finally he said, 'What'd he do?'
7) ELDERLY
While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by t he various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe
this!'
8) DRESS-UP
A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, 'Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit.'
'And why not, darling?'
'You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning.'
9) DEATH
While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased.
The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said:
'Glory be unto the Faaather, and unto the Sonnn, and into the hole he goooes.'
10) SCHOOL
A little girl had just finished her first week of school. 'I'm just wasting my time,' she said to her mother. 'I can't read, I can 't write, and they won't let me talk!'
11) BIBLE
A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.
'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out.
'What have you got there, dear?'
With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's
Adam' s underwear!'
