    Islamic colleges ban tight jeans
JAKARTA, Curves are out at several Islamic universities in Indonesia, which have shut the door on female students wearing tight jeans and body-hugging shirts.
The State Institute of Islamic Studies in Indonesia's second-largest city Surabaya said the dress code banning tight attire was introduced this week after complaints.
"We will have staff watching at our entrances and students who don't wear proper clothes can't enter the campus," deputy rector Hamid Syarif said on Friday.
The rules did not apply to male students, who were instead discouraged from wearing T-shirts and torn jeans, Syarif said.
Jakarta's Islamic State University has introduced the fashion code because it wants to stop students blending traditional and modern styles in the world's most populous Muslim nation.
Indonesians have long followed a moderate version of Islam, although an emphasis on Muslim practices and identity with Islamic traditions has gathered pace in recent years.

MYANMAR: 350,000 Clothing Workers
Urge US Not To Ban Imports
Hundreds of thousands of clothing industry workers on Monday called on the United States not to ban garment imports in a move that would leave many of them out of work.
US President George Bush is shortly expected to back a bill of sanctions against Myanmar's military-run government amid claims of human rights abuses and the detention of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
But up to 350,000 garment workers are now reported to have signed a petition asking the US leader not to impose such restrictions saying their livelihoods depend on such exports.
In April, the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), which represents around 600 US footwear and clothing firms, demanded a ban on textile and shoe exports from Myanmar.
But that drew an angry response from the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA), which said the AAFA's allegations were "groundless and false".
"We firmly declare that no garment factory in Myanmar use forced labour nor child labour. All factories adhere to the existing laws and international standards," the MGMA said.
Dozens of US retailers have stopped ordering goods from Myanmar including May Department Stores Co, Mother's Work, Burlington Coat Factory, Federated Department Stores Co and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Shoppers Snap Up Clothing Made By Inmates
Fashion-conscious German shoppers are rushing to snap up a new clothing line produced by a group of prisoners.
Inmates at Berlin’s Tegel prison are struggling to cope with the demand for their "Haeftling" (detainee) collection which was launched earlier this month through an online sales portal.
The prisonwear line includes colourful jackets, shirts and athletic shoes made by 50 of the inmates at the huge prison who are paid up to 13 euros a day for their handiwork.   More on Page 5

Nude Protest Against Running of the Bulls
PAMPLONA, Spain, Animal rights activists stripped naked to protest against the running of bulls through the streets of Pamplona, condemning one of Spain's most famous traditions as cruel to animals.
Activists from all over Western Europe had planned to run nude along the route for the annual bull runs, but police in the northern Spanish city said the protest was unauthorized and blocked their way.
About 20 men and women went ahead with the protest near the city center however, stripping completely. Some put on plastic horns or fake bull's heads. They were joined by scores of other protesters who kept on all or part of their clothing.
"In the running of the bulls, you have terrified animals slipping and sliding along the cobbled stone streets. Many of them suffer from broken bones," said Sean Gifford, of the U.S.-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals group that organized the Saturday protest.

Magazine Suspended for Nude Statue Cover
HANOI - A communist student magazine in Vietnam which featured statues of a naked couple on the cover of a recent issue has been suspended for three months for inflaming sexual passions, a government official said on Friday.
The Sinh Vien (Student) weekly magazine ran "inappropriate articles, including stories that stimulate young people's sexual curiosity" despite repeated warnings from authorities, he said.
"The magazine will be suspended for three months," Do Quy Doan, director of the Press Department of the Ministry of Culture and Information, which is in charge of censorship, told Reuters. No one at the magazine was available for comment.
Sinh Vien, run by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth League, carries a column called "Love Garden" which features stories about pre-marital sex and kissing in public.
Authorities say the magazine crossed the line when it featured wooden statues of a naked couple on the cover of its July 7 issue.
"We give them three months to reform their reporting system and we will review in three months to see if they have learned from their mistakes," the official said.

Bra-vo for Caely founder Theresa Fong Nyok Yoon
There was little that Theresa Fong Nyok Yoon didn't do at her first place of employment: an undergarments factory.
There she was involved in the sewing, recruiting, training, costing and marketing - pretty much everything.
But that was in the late 70s. These days, 41-year old Fong is still putting in the hours, but working towards her own “cause”: the listing of Caely Holdings Bhd, a company she founded.
In an interview, executive chairman Fong recalled how she left school in 1979 and landed her first job with a bra manufacturer that sold its products in the night market.
Soon after, the owner decided to improve the quality of his products, but many of his senior staff decided not to hang around.
Fong who claimed, “I didn't know anything then,” stepped in. “I had to train the staff how to wear the bras. Then I had to teach them to sell the bras.”
Seven years later, Bukit Mertajam-born Fong realised she'd learnt enough about the business to venture out on her own.
With savings of RM10,000,($1,200 US) she bought undergarments from her previous employer and with his permission, packaged and sold them under the Caelygirl brand.
By the ninth month when the business had proven more than viable, she decided it was time to make the undergarments.
Fong's husband Alan C.L. Chuah (Caely's director and managing director), older sister Lim Pow Choo and brother-in-law Khor Mooi Soong - also directors of Caely - became equal partners in the company.
With their combined capital of RM200,000,($24,000) a factory was built in Teluk Intan, Perak.
Annually, the company produces about 10.8 million pieces of inner-garments - comprising bras, briefs/panties, camisoles, boxers, baby dolls, bikinis, merry widows, nighties, girdles, bodysuits and bustiers.

            Dog Day Afternoon
A guy walks into a bar and orders 6 shooters. The bartender says, "Looks like you are having a bad day."
The guy says, "Am I ever! To start, I woke up late for work.
On my way to work I got in an accident.
When I got to work I was four hours late, so the boss fired me.
Then to top everything off I came home to my wife in bed with my
best friend."
The bartender says, "What did you say to your wife?"
The guy says,
"I told her to get out, and I never want to see her again."
The bartender says, "What did you say to your best friend?''
The guy says, ''I said BAD DOG!''

MILFORD — It was hard to tell Friday who won this battle in the ongoing war between pornography and purity.
On one hand, porn mogul Daniel Quinn opened his 10,000-square-foot Penthouse Boutique. On the other, the porn palace was stripped of the very items that have drawn the ire of so many: adults-only toys and paraphernalia.
