Solutia Sells Nylon Business
Specialty chemicals maker Solutia Inc has sold its nylon business to
an affiliate of New York-based private equity firm SK Capital Partners for $50m.
It will also receive $4m in annual $1m installments beginning in 2011, and a 2% stake in the new company formed to hold the nylon business
assets.
The sale will leave Solutia to focus on its performance materials and specialty chemicals.
The nylon business sale includes the business' management and employees, as well as all five of its manufacturing plants.
Solutia's nylon business is one of only two businesses in the world that own the complete range of technology to produce nylon 66. Its
brands include Ascend, which is used to make flame-retardant fabrics.

CURVENY
(Continued from the McPete Sez March
15 issue)
Right on the heels of CURVENV Las Vegas , CURVENY New York moved in
February 22 for three days into the Galleria of the Jacob K. Javits
Convention Center in New York.
Created a year ago, it was only its second edition in the new location
which hosts other reputable trade shows at the same time such as Moda and
Coterie. Attendance (1937 retailers) held up considering the current
economic climate: + 25% over February 2008. However, the comparison pales
in regards to the Summer 2008 results, a session which is traditionally
more frequented and which includes an additional category, swimwear.
All major department stores sent in their purchasing teams often made up
of only a couple of buyers as opposed to larger delegations in the recent
past : Barney’s , Bergdorf Goodman , Henri Bendel, Lord and Taylor,
Macy’s, Saks. A majority of independent stores were represented by their
owners traveling alone.
Destination stores from all over North America were spotted on the Floor :
they were Trousseau of Dallas, Alla Prima of San Francisco, Collange of
Montreal , Faire Frou-Frou from Studio City, CA , Christina’s of Boulder
Colorado, Barbara Graves Intimate Fashions from Little Rock Arkansas , La
Silhouette from Madeira Ohio , …
This season, many buyers from the west of the Mississippi did forego the
visit to New York: With the presence of CURVENV Las Vegas in their
territory and because of widespread budgetary constraints, there was less
of a need to travel east to shop the newest collections.
Independent of the overall climate, CURVENY New York keeps delivering
quality of content .
The show is exquisite in its visual impact and the design of the booths is
clean and efficient:
Collections show very well against white backdrops, categories are well
defined and buyers can quickly identify the brands they wish to
concentrate on.
Brands remain the main attraction and the 250 collections present upped
the ante on creativity and expertise. First-time exhibitors drew a lot of
attention from buyers seeking novelties to keep their edge and attract
customers.
La Fée Verte presented a new concept with striking color combinations,
Jupons de Tess epitomizes romanticism while Cervin, the only manufacturer
of silk stockings signaled the return of seduction. Other noteworthy new
collections were those of Rosabella, Jenna Leigh, Sally Poppy, Elise
Aucouturier and Amore.
The next session of CURVENY New York is scheduled for August 2, 3, 4 and
will present in the same location (The Galleria Javits center) the
Spring/Summer 2010 Collections. www.curvexpo.com

The Pope Goes to Heaven
The Pope dies and, naturally, goes to heaven. He's met by the
reception committee, and after a whirlwind tour is told that he can enjoy any of the
myriad recreations available.
He decides that he wants to read all of the ancient original text of the Holy Scriptures, and
spends the next eon or so learning the languages. After becoming a linguistic master, he
sits down in the library and begins to pore over every version of the Bible, working back
from the most recent "Easy Reading" to the original script.
All of a sudden there is a scream in the library. The angels come running to him, only to
find the Pope huddled in a chair, crying to himself, and muttering, "An 'R'! They left out the 'R'."
God takes him aside, offering comfort and asks him what the problem is. After collecting his wits, the Pope sobs again, "It's the letter 'R' ... the word was
supposed to be CELEBRATE!"

HMS Offers FREE Cash
Humboldt Merchant Services, long known for their involvement in the intimate apparel and adult novelty industry, is offering FREE MONEY to new clients! “I am very excited to roll out this new promotion at the upcoming International Lingerie Show,” states Steve Kimberling, VP of Sales for HMS. “This is just one more example of our commitment to the industry and our desire to expand our involvement with merchants in this segment.”
At the next ILS, April 20-22, HMS will be offering a $100 bonus to all new merchants. By completing your merchant application at the ILS, or within 30 of the show, you will be eligible. When you run your first credit card batch within 30 days of approval, HMS will credit your checking account $100!
“Economic times are tough. It is our goal to help existing merchants reduce their processing expenses, which is often easier than increasing sales. For new merchants the $100 bonus program has proven to be very helpful.” Kimberling adds. The $100 bonus can be used to expand inventory, purchase credit card terminals, or any other desired item.
For more information on HMS or the new bonus program, please contact Steve Kimberling. 877-635-3339 or
